Women of color and low-income women are among the most vulnerable parties affected by restrictive abortion policies. This study investigates the accessibility-related impacts of overturning Roe v. Wade by researching Planned Parenthood’s Texas system and services, with a primary interest in abortion care. The state’s longstanding conservative political stance provides a rich landscape to study the long-term effects of conservative reproductive policies. The study’s approach is founded on feminist theory methodology, which recognizes issues on feminism and analyzes the systems that perpetrate the injustice of interest. How often a researcher is cited usually plays a decisive role in that person's career advancement, because academic institutions often use citation metrics, either explicitly or implicitly, to estimate research impact and productivity. Research has shown, however, that citation patterns and practices are affected by various biases, including the prestige of the authors being cited and their gender, race, and nationality, whether self-attested or perceived. Some commentators have proposed that researchers can address biases related to social identity or position by including a Citation Diversity Statement in a manuscript submitted for publication. Opioid Knowledge And Experiences In Nebraska College Students, Natalie Holding

This study investigated opioid-related knowledge and experiences among 83 Nebraska college students, with an emphasis on awareness, perceived risks, and educational needs regarding opioids and the overdose-reversing drug, naloxone. For participants who have used opioids outside of a doctor’s orders, questions were asked regarding motivations, comorbidities, coping mechanisms, and treatment experiences. Data were collected via an anonymous survey featuring closed- and open-ended questions. Results showed that 41% of participants reported feeling moderately knowledgeable about opioid risks, while 34% felt only slightly knowledgeable. Although 80.7% of participants were aware of naloxone, most were uncertain either about (22.9%) or did not know …

For my capstone effort, I wanted to focus on the recruitment and retention of mental health professionals in Nebraska. Having familiarity with the status of mental healthcare itself in rural Nebraska, my goal was to focus on what is being done to recruit and retain mental healthcare providers in the state.

For this study, interviews were conducted with professionals with experience in examining and addressing provider recruitment and retainment related to mental health.

Medically underserved children, often from low-income families or areas with limited healthcare resources, face significant barriers in accessing essential medical services and represent a fundamental challenge to equity and social justice. School physicals and back-to-school clinics play a crucial role in addressing these healthcare needs, serving as a gateway to educational and extracurricular opportunities.

Clinic With a Heart (CWH), a non-profit medical and dental clinic in Lincoln, Nebraska, serves as a model for addressing healthcare disparities. In 2023, CWH provided 3,109 visits to 1,846 unique patients, with 83% lacking health insurance and 63% having household incomes below $16,000 annually. The …

This paper presents the personal narrative of the author, an individual who has experienced personal and clinical recovery from mental health difficulties. Diagnosed with a mental disorder (NEUROTIC; ICD-10) during my university years, I endured cognitive dysfunction, panic disorder, derangement of ego, suicidal ideation, and depression. Despite these challenges, I have actively engaged in social skills training, supervised virtual reality content, led self-help groups, and published papers on my experiences. INTRODUCTION Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), a malignant skin tumor, is commonly associated with osteomyelitis. Although an unusual occurrence, it is speculated that the tumor can spread along the tendon sheaths of the hand. The risk of malignant transformation is considerably increased in patients with a history of amputation. This may necessitate additional screening, amputation, or surgical repair of the defect. CASE PRESENTATION We present a patient with a progressively enlarging mass in his left hand following a prior finger amputation, which was later diagnosed as invasive SCC with concurrent osteomyelitis. Objective: To create a resource guide on closed and relocated historical hospitals in the southern region of Louisiana, documenting rural and urban hospitals with their address, years open, interesting facts, and photographs if available.

INTRODUCTION: Health agencies have called for research evaluating e-cigarette (EC) use in supporting prenatal smoking cessation. This study aimed to describe (1) the characteristics of smokers who begin using electronic cigarettes (ECs) during pregnancy, (2) how frequently smokers reduce or eliminate pre- and post-natal combustible cigarette (CC) use, and (3) the risk for neonatal health complications among smokers who initiate ECs during pregnancy.

AIMS AND METHODS: Pregnant women using CCs exclusively during prepregnancy, who participated in a U.S. surveillance study, were classified by their reported late-pregnancy smoking behavior as CC-exclusive users, EC initiators, or quitters. EC initiators were further subclassified …

Purpose: Barriers to communication and inaccurate provider assumptions about patient priorities limit the delivery of comprehensive, high-quality, patient-centered care (PCC) to people with Parkinson’s (PWP). This study aimed to analyze priorities of PWP using a qualitative, unstructured single-question survey and to test associations with validated quality of life (QOL) measures.

Methods: During appointments at a subspecialty, interdisciplinary clinic, PWP (n = 139) provided written responses to the prompt: “What is important for your care team to know about you?” Patient Health Questionnaire, Montreal Cognitive Assessment, and Hoehn and Yahr scales were obtained through retrospective chart review.
