Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome (CHS) is a condition characterized by cyclic episodes of severe nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain in individuals with chronic cannabis use. Despite its increasing recognition, CHS remains underdiagnosed, particularly in adolescents, and can be associated with a range of complications, some of which are potentially life-threatening. One such complication is spontaneous pneumomediastinum (SPM), a rare but serious condition where air accumulates in the mediastinum without any clear traumatic cause. The objective of this literature review is to explore the relationship between early-life stress and the development of disordered or dysregulated eating in adulthood. A search was conducted across PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, and PsycINFO databases. Results from each study were compared and synthesized. Twelve studies were analyzed including case reports, systematic reviews, cohort studies, and cross-sectional studies. Research indicates that childhood emotional abuse, often more prevalent than other forms of maltreatment, is a significant risk factor for eating pathology, with studies investigating psychological mediators such as anger, anxiety, and dissociation in this relationship. Epicardial Adipose Tissue (EAT) is drawing increasing attention. As a quantifiable, modifiable, and potentially new cardiovascular therapeutic target, its accurate measurement is particularly relevant. In Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR) different methods can be used to assess EAT burden. We take advantage of CMR-studies of EMPATROPISM trial to assess EAT through three different methods, evaluate the effect of Empagliflozin and look for significant difference in the ability to detect changes in serial measurements. In some settings such as treatment-induced changes or patient follow-up, multi-slice method of EAT evaluation provides higher accuracy to detect significant differences, otherwise unnoticed by single-slice approaches.

Pseudohypobicarbonatemia is a laboratory artifact in which severe hypertriglyceridemia interferes with enzymatic bicarbonate measurements, leading to falsely low levels that can mimic metabolic acidosis. We present a case of a patient with diabetes and hyperlipidemia who was initially found to have profound hypobicarbonatemia and an elevated anion gap, raising concerns for metabolic acidosis. However, arterial blood gas analysis revealed a normal acid-base status, prompting further investigation and identification of severe hypertriglyceridemia (>1100 mg/dL) as the underlying cause. Psychological stress can induce gastrointestinal symptoms and exacerbate existing gastrointestinal disorders, indicating an interaction between the central and enteric nervous systems. Central nervous system activation of opioid receptors stimulates sympathetic outflow to the enteric nervous system, delaying motility and reducing gastrointestinal secretions, producing a similar clinical presentation to IBS.

Background: Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) have low calcium levels. Low blood calcium triggers the parathyroid gland to constantly secrete parathyroid hormone (PTH) in an attempt to raise blood calcium levels back to normal. One way PTH tries to do this is by removing calcium from bone. Chronically high PTH levels leads to increased bone resorption and increases the risk for bone fractures and mortality risk. This phenomenon is called secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT).
