In this thesis I have tried to determine the suitable temperature, time and the amount of soda ash and lime needed for the calcining process. The leaching and purification tests were studied experimentally. The earlier process for making chromate from chromite was not the same as is used today. Therefore I have found it useful to put into this thesis the newest method for making chromate salts and their important uses.

The subject of the thesis was based upon the theory of precipitation or age hardening of the copper by the compound formed by the Manganese and silicon present in the ternary Cu-Mn-Si alloy. There is practically only one method of gas analysis. This was worked out many years ago by Bunsen, Hempel, and Winkler and consists in the successive absorption with different chemicals of the various constituents of the gas. Among these alloys one finds the tin bronzes rather widely used for many purposes, and by delving still farther one finds pressure castings as one of their important applications. "We know that, in the case of a beam, the really effective part of the cross-sectional area is that part farthest from the neutral axis. The I-beam, with most of the central area eliminated, is just as strong as is the rectangular beam of similar outside dimensions. "The expensive process of grinding the insulating brick and the slow production methods of hand forming led to the possibilities of dry pressing the brick. The use of the dry press would increase production, give greater uniformity to the brick and materially reduce grinding if not eliminating it entirely. Since present day combustives were either impractical or else impossible to use, some new material must be found. Three materials presented themselves, napthalene, sulfur, and petroleum coke. "There are two districts in Missouri in which plastic fire clay occurs. The oldest and least significant of these deposits is the "Cheltenham", in the St. Louis area. The most prominent area in which plastic fire clay occurs is generally termed the "east central" district. Included in this district are Calloway, Montgomery, Audrain, Warren, Boone, Monroe, Pike and Lincoln Counties. The clay as tested in this report occurs in Boone County, near Columbia. "This investigation was undertaken to study the refractory blocks used in glass furnaces - their relation with the molten glass. It was decided to employ for this examination a model glass tank, heated by electrical carborundum resistors known as Globars. Experimental glass tanks have been constructed using fuel oil or gas to obtain the required heat to perform melting. These fuels were used mainly to simulate commercial practice and thus to obtain results which could be easily applied to industrial furnaces. The assaying of gold and silver cyanide solutions is by no means new. The first method of analysis which is given in the literature is an evaporation method by S. B. Christy in 1896. However, the fire assaying of gold and silver dates further back than this. Seven stamp mills were running and ore was being mined from the Independence, King Solomon, Poorman, Golden, Hidden Treasure and Crown claims. All of the metals have definite melting points. When a metal is heated above the melting point, it exists as a liquid. Now if the melt is allowed to cool, it will solidify when a temperature corresponding to the melting point is reached.
However, if one metal is added to another metal, both of which are mutually soluble in the liquid state, a certain effect can be noted. The melt will not solidify when the melting point of the pure metal is reached, but will freeze at a lower temperature.

Probably most of the area included in this report has been examined to some extent by oil geologists, and most, if not all, of the important domes have been discovered and surveyed thoroughly. In parts of the area, the bedrock is covered by glacial drift or alluvium material, but it is reasonable to believe that no new domal structure will be found. This means that surface examination alone will be insufficient in locating new oil fields, so future prospecting will be dependent, to a great extent, on studies of sub-surface stratigraphy.
