Sensors And Smart Food Packaging For Supply Chains: Bridging Expiration Dates And Actual Perishability, Muhammad Umar Azam, Jolina Rodrigues, Mohamed Hamid Salim, Sarath Haridas Kaniyamparambil, Khalid Askar, Imane Belyamani, Blaise L. Tardy, Nouha Alcheikh

All Works

The food supply chain is undergoing critical changes to minimize environmental hazards, such as those associated with packaging, and reduce food waste and loss. One of the critical components of the latter is associated with the high variance in the perishability of individual foodstuffs. Herein, we review the state of the art in smart sensor systems and emphasize the critical role they could play in addressing the mismatch between “batch” based expiry dates and individual food products’ time-dependent responses to spoilage. Following a brief overview of food shelf life and associated legislation, a subsequent section summarizes the development of sensors …

Sla Elastic Resin Curing Test Data, Richard Amesimenu, Johnson Nwogu, Haijun Gong Sep 2026

Sla Elastic Resin Curing Test Data, Richard Amesimenu, Johnson Nwogu, Haijun Gong

Faculty Datasets

3D printing via stereolithography (SLA) enables high-resolution polymer components, but as-printed parts may exhibit incomplete polymerization and reduced mechanical performance. This study investigates the effects of UV post-curing time on SLA-printed elastic photopolymer resin. Specimens were evaluated using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), uniaxial tensile testing (ASTM D412 Type C), and Durometer Type M hardness testing. Results show that increased post-curing enhances crosslink density, tensile strength, elastic modulus, and hardness, while extended curing may reduce ductility. An optimal post-curing window balancing stiffness and flexibility was identified. Testing datasets include DSC (dsc/), tensile testing (tensile/), and hardness testing (hardness/) results for uncured …

Raw Data For The Manuscript "Silicon-Stabilized Three-Dimensional Covalent Networks In High Entropy Diborides", Michael Yeung, Reza Mohammadi

Chemistry Department Faculty Scholarship

Abstract for data:

Raw data for the journal publication, Silicon-stabilized three-dimensional covalent networks in high entropy diborides. ReadMe file provided.

Abstract for Journal publication:

High entropy ceramics offer a pathway to stabilize unconventional chemistries beyond traditional alloying rules. We report the incorporation of silicon into an AlB2-type high entropy diboride, Cr0.2Nb0.2Si0.2Ta0.2Ti0.2B2, despite silicon violating classical Hume-Rothery rules for alloying. Arc melting produced a phase-pure, chemically homogeneous structure, as confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction (pXRD) and scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM–EDS). Silicon occupies …

Carbon Fibers Recycling From Degraded Prepregs And Mechanical Properties Or Recycled Composite, Monjur Morshed Rabby, Minhazur Rahman, Partha Pratim Das, Vamsee Vadlamudi, Rassel Raihan Apr 2023

Carbon Fibers Recycling From Degraded Prepregs And Mechanical Properties Or Recycled Composite, Monjur Morshed Rabby, Minhazur Rahman, Partha Pratim Das, Vamsee Vadlamudi, Rassel Raihan

Institute of Predictive Performance Methodologies (IPPM-UTARI)-Archive

The size of the global composites market is anticipated to grow more than previously. Due to the rapidly rising volume of CFRP production, the waste from this material poses numerous problems and has significantly increased the socio-technological pressure to find sustainable composite recycling solutions. The problem is that recycling the composite part is challenging once its service life has expired. The same problem is true for the raw materials (prepregs) used in composite manufacturing. When the prepreg out-life/shelf-life is over, prepregs are abandoned, resulting in a loss of millions of dollars and an adverse environmental effect. In this study, the …

Artificial Intelligence Assisted Residual Strength And Life Prediction Of Fiber Reinforced Polymer Composites, Partha Pratim Das, Muthu Ram Prabhu Elenchezhian, Vamsee Vadlamudi, Rassel Raihan Jan 2023

Artificial Intelligence Assisted Residual Strength And Life Prediction Of Fiber Reinforced Polymer Composites, Partha Pratim Das, Muthu Ram Prabhu Elenchezhian, Vamsee Vadlamudi, Rassel Raihan

Institute of Predictive Performance Methodologies (IPPM-UTARI)-Archive

With the increased use of composite materials, researchers have developed many approaches for structural and prognostic health monitoring. Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopy (BbDS)/Impedance Spectroscopy (IS) is a state-of-the-art technology that can be used to identify and monitor the minute changes in damage initiation, accumulation, interactions, and the degree of damage in a composite under static and dynamic loading. This work presents a novel artificial neural network (ANN) framework for fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites under fatigue loading, which incorporates dielectric state variables to predict the life (durability) and residual strength (damage tolerance) from real-time acquired dielectric permittivity of the material. The findings …

Hdd Dataset: Optimising Retrofitted Insulation For Irish Residential Building Walls, Rakshit D. Muddu, Aimee Byrne, Anthony James Robinson

Datasets

In this study, a thermal-economic analysis was conducted to determine the optimum insulation thickness of retrofitted insulation walls in different regions in Ireland. This was based on the Heating Degree Day method (HDD). This dataset contains optimum insulation thickness, payback period, cost savings and carbon emission for all 25 counties in the Republic of Ireland
