Aiming at solving the problems of high background complexity of some butterfly images and the difficulty in identifying them caused by their small inter-class variance, we propose a new fine-grained butterfly classification architecture, called Network based on Multi-rate Dilated Attention Mechanism and Multi-granularity Feature Sharer (MRDA-MGFSNet). First, in this network, in order to effectively identify similar patterns between butterflies and suppress the information that is similar to the butterfly's features in the background but is invalid, a Multi-rate Dilated Attention Mechanism (MRDA) with a symmetrical structure which assigns different weights to channel and spatial features is designed. Second, fusing the …

Prediction Of Four-Days Soaked California Bearing Ratio (Cbr) Values From Soil Index Properties, Pascal Ambrose, Siya P. Rimoy Dr
Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)
California Bearing Ratio (CBR) laboratory testing is the conventional method for determining soaked strengths of pavement subgrades. The test requires careful preparation of soil samples followed by four days of water soaking before penetrating the samples using a standard plunger at prescribed rates to set depths. When the number of samples becomes large the determination of soaked CBR values becomes cumbersome as the test is laborious and time consuming. This study aimed at establishing an alternative way of determining soaked CBR by developing a model that would be used for estimating soaked CBR of fine- and coarse- grained soils without …

Structural Vibration Control Of Offshore Wind Turbines, Vahid Jahangiri
Structural Vibration Control Of Offshore Wind Turbines, Vahid Jahangiri
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Offshore wind turbines (OWTs) are becoming more attractive than their onshore counterparts due to advantages such as high wind speed, less visual impact and less noise constraints in the marine area. However, the combined wind, wave and seismic loading and other environmental effects render the offshore wind turbines suffering from excessive vibration which adversely influences the system performance and structural integrity. In this regard, the present dissertation aims to develop effective structural control techniques to mitigate three-dimensional structural vibrations of offshore wind turbines. Analytical models of a fixed-bottom and floating offshore wind turbine are established using Euler-Lagrangian equation wherein the …

Dynamic Soil-Structure Interaction Analysis: Detecting The Reliability Of Modelling The Piles As A Plate Element For A Multistory Building Resting On Deep Foundation, Zeinab Hussein Zein Z.H.Zein, Lina Jaber L. Jaber, Yehya Temsah Y. Temsah
BAU Journal - Science and Technology
The assessment of seismic responses of buildings in dynamic-soil-pile-structure interaction problems has been one of the main interests among researchers in recent decades. Simulating such problems is usually done by two-dimensional models to overcome the difficulties encountered in 3D models. Commonly, piles were represented by plate elements of infinite length, disregarding the soil flowing between piles. Recently, Plaxis – a finite element software- implemented a new feature known as “the embedded pile row” that allows the definition of piles' out of plane spacing in a 2D model. Many researchers proved its validity in accurately simulating the real 3D pile’s behavior. …

A Novel Probabilistic Framework Of Rc Corroded Structures Under Dynamic Loading, Rawan Mouin Mashmoushy Eng., Wael Slika, Adel Elkordi
BAU Journal - Science and Technology
Steel corrosion in reinforced concrete structures can lead to severe deterioration damage under static and seismic loads. In practice, it is essential to mitigate failure risk by quantifying the extent of damage and simulating the structural response of damaged structures. However, numerical modeling of the dynamic behavior of corroded structure is challenging due to high nonlinearity of the problem and its multidisciplinary nature. In addition, corrosion damage exhibits various sources of uncertainty that impede accurate deterministic modeling of the dynamic response of RC structures. Therefore, this study presents a simplified framework, to simulate the non-linear response of corroded structures under …
