Research On Path Planning Method For Autonomous Underwater Vehicles Based On Improved Informed Rrt, Bensheng Qi, Yan Li, Hongxia Miao, Jialin Chen, Chenglin Li

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: In response to the autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) path planning problem in complex underwater environments, an improved path planning algorithm based on Informed rapidly-exploring random trees (RRT) is proposed in this study. A target-biased sampling strategy and a target-biased extension strategy are employed to address the issue of lack of goal orientation in the sampling process, ensuring that target nodes become sampling points during random sampling. During path points extension, non-target sampling points are guided in the direction of the target point, thereby enhancing the algorithm's ability to search for the target during random sampling and extension processes. A …

Thermal Management For Optimal Performance Of Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Unitized Regenerative Fuel Cells, Mythy Tran, Ayodeji Demuren

Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Faculty Publications

Hydrogen is an excellent carrier for energy storage and can be produced from various green and renewable sources. However, the cost of producing hydrogen and converting it to useful energy is much higher than fossil fuel and traditional energy generation and storage systems. Unitized regenerative fuel cells (URFC) maximize utilization of high-cost cells and their components, thus, lowering system capital cost. Improving the URFC efficiency is an effective way to lower its operating cost. This study evaluates utilization of waste heat during operation and recovery strategy to improve system efficiency of Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) URFC. A COMSOL Multiphysics 3-D …

Same Dynamics, Different Graph: Exploring Correlations, Similarities, And Renormalization Of Dynamics On Networks Using Temporal Distance Theory, Matthew Hockenbrock

Master’s Theses

Analyzing dynamics that take place on graphs (networks) is fundamental to modern network theory, with applications spanning biology, social networks, and engineering systems. A significant body of research exists that considers the similarity and scaling of network topologies. However, understanding how dynamic behavior varies across different graph topologies - particularly how signals propagate and dynamic behaviors scale between small and large networks - remains a significant challenge.

To address this challenge, this thesis presents a comprehensive framework to analyze how dynamic signals propagate and scale on network topologies using temporal distance theory. Three research goals were accomplished. First, a …

Detecting Wireless Security Threats Through Ieee 802.11 Frame Field Anomalies, Aria Young

Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects

It is not uncommon for most public spaces to offer Wi-Fi, while it is convenient and affordable, there are significant security risks due to its open nature. Rogue access points pose a security threat to many networks because they have the potential to bypass security measures and intercept traffic containing sensitive information. The attempt to formulate a method that one hundred percent guarantees the detection of a rogue access point has proven to be an intricate and complex problem for many to tackle, as there are numerous ways a rogue access point can be configured. This project aims to demonstrate …

Leveraging Physiological Signal Activity And Self-Report Data To Assess Students’ Trust In “My Friendly Mind” App And Its Impact On Their Mental Health Knowledge: A Mixed-Method Phase 1 Clinical Trial Focusing On Depression And Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder From Human Factors Standpoint., Yeganeh Shahsavar

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Mental health issues have become a significant global public health concern, especially among younger generations. The growing number of mental health challenges, combined with limited access to quality care, makes the problem even worse. Studies reveal that over 70% of individuals worldwide in need of mental health services do not receive appropriate care. Digital health technologies have the potential to enhance mental health services by making them more accessible and affordable. Despite the increasing popularity of mental health mobile applications (mHealth), there remains a lack of robust evidence of their effectiveness and the level of user trust, particularly in areas …

A Hybrid Data Processing, Computational Intelligence, And Complex Systems Modeling Approach For Describing And Predicting The Bitcoin Market, Oluwadamilare Akinpelu Omole

Doctoral Dissertations

"The Bitcoin market, like traditional financial markets, is a complex system with intricate interdependencies and nonlinear interactions among various market elements. This, coupled with the inherent uncertainty and high volatility present, makes predicting Bitcoin price movements difficult. The lack of understanding of the underlying market dynamics often results in significant losses for investors and traders. Existing studies have focused on the use of predictive models, which have not sufficiently captured the complexities of the market and cannot forecast extreme market events. This research endeavors to bridge this gap by combining data processing techniques, computational intelligence, and complex systems theory to …

The Effect Of Need For Cognition & Need For Affect On Human Reliance And Artificial Intelligence Interactions, Aliyah Mcgowan

Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses

Abstract

With the increased use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) automations in fields like medical diagnoses and mental health queries, there are concerns regarding an individual’s trust and reliance on the technology. Reliance on AI output may lead an individual to accept inaccurate or incorrect information without further analysis. Trust may influence reliance and trust formation may be a product of affective processing. This study investigated the relationship between Need for Affect (NFA), Need for Cognition (NFC), and trust and reliance on AI interactions. Participants were assessed on the NFA scale for willingness to approach or avoid emotional stimuli, the NFC …

Electronic Theses & Dissertations (2024 - present)

This dissertation investigates how food donation policies in New York State influence the recovery, redistribution, and waste of surplus fresh produce, with a focus on fruits and vegetables. Using an interdisciplinary, systems-based approach that integrates system dynamics modeling with qualitative, community-engaged research, the study analyzes the effectiveness and unintended consequences of three major policies: Nourish New York, the Farm to Food Bank tax credit, and the Food Donation and Food Scraps Recycling Law.

Chapter 2 uses simulation modeling to examine how the tax credit and waste ban affect produce recovery and redistribution. Results show that while both policies can boost …

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: To solve the problem of increased computation and communication costs caused by using homomorphic encryption (HE) to protect all gradients in traditional cryptographic aggregation (cryptoaggregation) schemes, a fast crypto-aggregation scheme called RandomCrypt was proposed. RandomCrypt performed clipping and quantization to fix the range of gradient values and then added two types of noise on the gradient for encryption and differential privacy (DP) protection. It conducted HE on noise keys to revise the precision loss caused by DP protection. RandomCrypt was implemented based on a FATE framework, and a hacking simulation experiment was conducted. The results show that the proposed …
