Application Of Decline Curve Analysis To Unconventional Reservoirs, Majed Hisham Kabbani 2020 West Virginia University

Application Of Decline Curve Analysis To Unconventional Reservoirs, Majed Hisham Kabbani

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Supply and demand are the main key factors for oil and gas industry. Moreover, natural gas was not important until early 18th century after the World War II. The first shale gas well was successfully drilled 27 ft deep in 1821. The well was drilled in the Devonian Dunkirk shale. Later in the 1980s producers began investigating into the more difficult tight gas sands in order to keep up with the growing market. A decade later in 1990s investors were looking at coalbed methane. Today, as demand is increasing globally, the oil and gas industry is moving toward shale. …

Deep Learning Based Face Detection And Recognition In Mwir And Visible Bands, Suha Reddy Mokalla 2020 West Virginia University

Deep Learning Based Face Detection And Recognition In Mwir And Visible Bands, Suha Reddy Mokalla

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

In non-favorable conditions for visible imaging like extreme illumination or nighttime, there is a need to collect images in other spectra, specifically infrared. Mid-Wave infrared (3-5 microm) images can be collected without giving away the location of the sensor in varying illumination conditions. There are many algorithms for face detection, face alignment, face recognition etc. proposed in visible band till date, while the research using MWIR images is highly limited. Face detection is an important pre-processing step for face recognition, which in turn is an important biometric modality. This thesis works towards bridging the gap between MWIR and visible spectrum …

Top-Down Model Development Using Data Generated From A Complex Numerical Reservoir Simulation With Water Injection, Yvon Andrea Martinez 2020 West Virginia University

Top-Down Model Development Using Data Generated From A Complex Numerical Reservoir Simulation With Water Injection, Yvon Andrea Martinez

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Numerical simulation and data-driven modeling are two current approaches in engineering reservoir modeling. Numerical reservoir simulation attempts to match past production history by modifying reservoir properties of the model. After multiple computationally intensive trial and error efforts, accurate history matches are identified. These history matches are used by project management for production forecasting purposes. Data-driven reservoir modeling utilizes measured data and is, therefore, free of assumptions that are often included in numerical reservoir simulations. Artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms are technologies implemented in the development of a data-driven reservoir model with efforts to learn fluid flow through porous media …

Mad Jack Alpine Touring Model Design, Austin Gasbarra, Gillian Stargensky, Madeleine Mccool, Brannon Smudz

Mechanical Engineering

Skiing is a sport enjoyed by millions of people every year, yet ski boots are very uncomfortable and cost- prohibitive, resulting in a low conversion rate of first-time skiers to lifetime skiers. Additionally, Alpine Touring (AT) is seeing a surge in popularity as ski resorts become more expensive, but few companies are developing affordable products in this realm. Mad Jack Snow Sports has developed a product that they believe addresses some of the main issues associated with skiing, but they want to develop their product line further. The problem statement and scope state that the purpose of this project is …

Breaking Coastal Hypoxia: Destratification Of Gulf Of Mexico Deadzone To Encourage Oxygen Transport Downwards To Maintain Marine Fauna, Veda Thipparthi 2019 Louisiana State University

Breaking Coastal Hypoxia: Destratification Of Gulf Of Mexico Deadzone To Encourage Oxygen Transport Downwards To Maintain Marine Fauna, Veda Thipparthi

LSU Master's Theses

As a consequence of seasonal eutrophication and human input, a vast hypoxic area termed The Dead Zone develops every year in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) during summer along the Louisiana coastline characterized by vertical seawater density-stratification with oxygen concentrations less than 2 mg.l-1 at the seafloor. It poses a threat to bottom-dwelling faunae and their environment which has negative ecological and economic consequences. This project aims to mitigate hypoxia by employing mechanical impellers placed at strategic water depths and locations in the Gulf. Enhanced transport of oxygen results by mixing oxygen-enriched seawater at the surface, downward into the …

Integrated Chirped-Grating Spectrometer-On-A-Chip, Shima Nezhadbadeh

Optical Science and Engineering ETDs

In this dissertation we demonstrate a new structure based on waveguide coupling atop a silicon wafer using a chirped grating to provide the dispersion that leads to a high-resolution, compact, fully integrable and CMOS-compatible spectrometer. Light is both analyzed and detected in a single, completely monolithic component which enables realizing a high-resolution portable spectrometer with an extremely compact footprint. The structure is comprised of a SiO2/Si3N4/SiO2 waveguide on top of a silicon wafer. Grating regions are fabricated on the top cladding of the waveguide. The input light is incident on a chirped grating …

Gorniy vestnik Uzbekistana

Are shown a volcanism role in formation of burned breeds on brown-coal fields of the Southern Fergana coal basin (Kyrgyzstan). So far burned breeds traditionally were considered as products of thermal transformation clay, clay алевритовых breeds, formed as a result of the underground fires of layers of coal. However, the complex of geological factors revealed recently when studying burned breeds, allows to assume their origin not only due to the underground fires of layers of coal, but also and a vol- canogenic and sedimentary way. Field works included supervision, drawing up litologo-petrographic, mineral and geochemical, structural and lithologic cuts with …

Mechanism Of Fluid Migration In Reservoirs-Collectors, A.E. Vorobev, Z.T. Martin, K.A. Vorobev

Gorniy vestnik Uzbekistana

The mechanism of fluid migration in stratium - reservoirs is revealed. The relevance of the study of the mechanism of migration of fluids is determined by the high (up to 90%) water cut of recoverable oil. It has been established that the migration of water and oil is mainly influenced by the type, nature and parameters of their interaction with host rocks, which have different values of wettability and sorption capacity. The amount of wettability is influenced by the pH values of water and oil. It is shown that pores and capillaries often have a mixed type of wettability, depending …
