The purpose of this study was to investigate characteristics associated with resilient school leaders. Principals juggle multiple responsibilities and work under increasingly stressful conditions. Despite recent role changes, added job responsibilities, and increased accountability, some principals remain remarkably resilient while working in a tumultuous environment. Using Henderson and Milstein's (2003) definition, principal resiliency was described as "the capacity to spring back, rebound, successfully adapt in the face of adversity, and develop social, academic, and vocational competence despite exposure to severe stress or simply to the stress that is inherent in today's world" (p. 7). Textbooks are a significant element of the social studies curriculum and teacher pedagogical choice (Apple, 2004; Apple & Christian-Smith, 1991). Students' views of American history are dramatically affected by the textbook narratives to which they are exposed, and teachers often tilt their curricular choices based on the textbooks available to them (Luke, 2006; Schug, Western & Enochs, 1997). Their purposes for degree attainment are multiple and varied, as are their experiences in higher education. Examining students' attitudes toward mathematics has become extremely popular. This study examined the attitudes and outcomes of Beginning Algebra students at a central Florida community college. Quantitative methods were used to examine the students' initial composite attitudes toward mathematics. The initial composite attitude was used to examine the relationship between CPT scores and State Competency Exam scores. Further analysis was conducted to examine completers' and non-completers' initial attitudes. The composite change score was determined and quantitative methods were used to examine interactions between class sections, age, gender, and ethnicity.

The purpose of this study was to develop a greater understanding of self-efficacy in music performance. I sought to (a) contribute to fundamental knowledge of self-efficacy in music performance, (b) determine whether scores from the Music Performance Self-Efficacy Scale (MPSES) were valid and reliable, and (c) provide insights for developing self-efficacy among secondary school music students. 本稿では、CBIにおける評価についての問題点を挙げ、今後の日本語教育でのCBIにおける評価の研究課題と実施課題を提案する。CBIの言語習得に及ぼす効果に関しては、スペイン語やインドネシア語などでは言語習得の向上が報告されているが、日本語については、ほとんど研究が見られない。外国語教育の分野で、CBIの重要性が叫ばれ、また、日本語教育界では、日本学との連携が盛んになるという方向性を考えると、CBI が言語習得に及ぼす効果を調査研究することは必須である。また、第二言語習得の見地からも、これからの研究課題として、実践報告のみならず、評価の研究を進めることを提言する。

CBIコースの実施面では、プレイスメントの重要性、そして、学習目標と評価の不一致からくる問題点を指摘する。具体的には、言語習得の他に教科内容の習得も学習目標に入っているものの、言語能力が障壁となって、教科内容の評価が適切に行えないという問題について述べ、その解決策の一つとして、形式的評価・累積的評価を効果的に取り入れることで、言語能力を向上させ、言語能力が障壁とならないように指導していくことを提示する。また、総合評価としても、論文や口頭発表といった典型的な形式以外に、Bloom（1956）の思考の六段階の概念を組み入れることを提唱し、評価方法の具体例を示す。

This paper takes on issues related to the assessment in Content-Based Instruction (CBI). The first point talks about the research needs for Japanese CBI in regards to issues over assessment. The second point presents assessment strategies towards implementation of CBI. There have been a few reports from research studies that have demonstrated the gains in one’s language ability, such as in Spanish and Indonesian. The goal was to obtain a rich and deep understanding of the nature of the mentoring experience in a college ATC program through the perspectives of mentees and their mentors. This study examined the extent to which coaching facilitates the successful implementation of the Problem-Solving/Response to Intervention (PS/RtI) model in schools, as well as the extent to which coaching enhances the fidelity of implementation of PS/RtI practices in those schools. In the age of accountability and assessment, there is a need to ensure that data provided regarding student achievement can be effectively and appropriately utilized by school site administrators in a systematic way to improve student achievement.

This study identified Heartland Educational Consortium Title I principals’ and assistant principals’ perceptions of their use of data as decision-makers in raising student achievement, with primary emphasis on Florida’s Differentiated Accountability Model.

Quantitative results revealed statistically significant differences in data use by administrators. Use of data by administrators for professional development was statistically significantly different from school improvement, leadership, or data skills. Data …
