Whose Story, Whose Politics, Whose Pedagogy? Using Critical Social Justice Praxis To Reimagine The U.S. History Curriculum, Julie M. Thoma

In this paper, I argue that the current U.S. history curriculum, its narratives, and common pedagogical practices are harmful to U.S. society and all students, but most especially harmful to Othered students. I outlined the basic tenets and arguments of education-related social justice-based theoretical frameworks including Critical social justice, Critical Race Theory, and anti-racist, anti-oppressive, abolitionist, and decolonizing pedagogies. I use their theoretical frameworks as a guide towards a critical praxis that restructures and reimagines a more humanizing U.S. history curriculum that is inclusive of all people, cultures, and ways of thinking.

This research project aims to examine the impact of technology on K-8 students' learning post-COVID-19 and how technology in the classroom helps students achieve academic success. With the difficulties that the COVID-19 pandemic had on students, this study will dive deep into the depths of technology's use in today's education system. Through the use of a literature review, interviews with teachers, and surveys from 7th & 8th-grade students, the findings indicated that technology plays a crucial role in students learning and teaching. This capstone project delves into the persistent issue of homework perpetuating inequalities among low-income families. Drawing on insights from North American public school teachers who have shared their perspectives and experiences, this research employs a combination of literature reviews, teacher interviews, and anonymous surveys. The collective evidence underscores the unsettling fact that homework drives educational disparities. Consequently, it calls for a broader acknowledgment among educators and schools that homework often hinders rather than enhances a student's academic achievements.

The Permanence Of Racism In Tennessee Public Schools, Jarral Yokley

The qualitative case study exposed the permanence of racism beginning in the antebellum public schools of Nashville and continued in the current actions in the Tennessee legislature with the expulsion of two Black male legislators. Critical race theory is used as the main descriptor for the actions of White politicians and legislators in Tennessee who continue the oppressive treatment of Black people in the state of Tennessee.

This special guest lecture was part of the course “Exploring Feminist Perspectives in Egypt and the US” taught by CASAR Adjunct Faculty Yasmeen El-Ghazaly. The lecture was given in Arabic by Counselor Mohamed Samir, who is a senior member of the judicial authority in Egypt, responsible for the accountability of civil servants’ crimes and misconduct. He is also a lecturer in Political Science and Gender Based Violence Crimes.
