Alliance is an annual youth conference in Alaska designed to create inclusive and multi-cultural programming for Alaskan youth and their adult mentors. Alliance is a reimagining of a program formerly known as LeadOn. Marketing materials for Miami University, a public doctoral university in Oxford, Ohio, frequently reference the caliber and popularity of the university’s outbound student mobility programs. With almost sixty percent of undergraduates studying abroad or away before graduation, outbound mobility has become a core element of both the Miami student experience and the university’s vision for global engagement. The extreme visa vetting policy, or initiative, was first introduced during the 2016 presidential race by then candidate Donald Trump. During his campaign, he promised he would implement a process to more rigorously scrutinize visa applications for foreign nationals who wanted to temporarily come to the United States. After being elected president and taking office in January 2017, Trump fulfilled this promise by requiring Departments of Homeland Security and State to implement an extreme vetting process for visa applications, which is done by the creation of the extreme vetting policy. As a technical partner of the UNESCO Institute for Statistics, ACER-GEM has created reporting scales for reading and maths, with the intention of enabling countries to examine and report the outcomes of their assessment activities using a common framework. The purpose of this study was to explore what cultural mentoring looks like in practice in shortterm study abroad courses, how frequently instructors engage in cultural mentoring, and what demographic and background variables might predict the extent to which faculty members engage in cultural mentoring. Using data from a survey of 473 faculty members from 72 U.S. colleges and universities who had recently taught short-term study abroad courses, we identified four types of cultural mentoring behaviours: Expectation Setting, Explaining the Host Culture, Exploring Self in Culture, and Facilitating Connections. The purpose of Catholic education has always been to educate students on the mission of the Catholic Church which is evangelization. This study examined the prospect of preserving Catholic identity in Catholic secondary schools that enroll non-Catholic and international students. Research revealed there was limited material available on non-Catholic students, but there was no study conducted on international students. International students in the U.S. face many challenges. They face a variety of hurdles, including navigating and processing what are often drastic differences in language, culture, educational systems, and lifestyle. Existing surveys, and ethnographic research, and case studies (Hopnick, 2102; Li, et al, 2017; Serino, 2017; Suarez-Orozco, et al., 2008) unpack the variety of ways students from different countries navigate such changes.
