Blended learning helps to improve teaching and learning in high school classrooms; however, there is minimal understanding of how teacher self-efficacy influences their use of blended learning in their teaching. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to generate a more in-depth understanding of how high school teachers within a rural school district perceive their self-efficacy to influence their implementation of blended learning and how they apply the TPACK model to guide their pedagogy. The purpose of this study was to measure to what extent an experimental method of teaching argument incorporating elements from both Toulmin’s (2004) structural approach and Walton’s (2013) dialectical approach effects first-year college students’ ability to write strong arguments. This experimental instruction used critical questioning as a strategy in building a strong argument, incorporating alternative viewpoints, and creating a dialogue between claims and counterclaims, backed logically by verifiable evidence from reliable sources.

Online learning has traditionally relied on asynchronous text-based communication. The COVID-19 pandemic, though, has provided many faculty members with new and/or additional experience using synchronous video-based communication. Questions remain, though, about how this experience will shape online teaching and learning in the future. We conducted a mixed method study to investigate faculty perceptions of using synchronous video-based communication technology. This case study explored the relationship between levels of content choice in three high school online English language arts courses and evidence of student motivation in student work and students’ thoughts about motivation. These courses were designed around the main components of Self-Determination Theory (autonomy, competence, relatedness) and with a personalized learning framework. During the 2020-2021 school year, students in the courses were given reading options and writing prompts that offered “no choice” (zero options), “low choice” (2-3 options), and “high choice” (4+ options). This study explores ongoing research into self-mapped learning pathways that students utilize to move through a course when given two modalities to choose from: one that is instructor-led and one that is student-directed.

Design/methodology/approach

Process mining analysis was utilized to examine and cluster clickstream data from an online college-level History course designed with dual modality choices. This paper examines some of the results from different approaches to clustering the available data.

This paper explores the design of a 5-week course for Jamie O'Neil, a fitness and nutrition coaching company. Any quest to achieve optimal wellness requires the ability to make consistent personal choices that support one's own health, fitness, and nutritional needs. Efforts to support these choices are often strengthened when targeting both the cognitive and behavioral domains. Jamie O'Neil found this to be true.
