This independent study is intended to support very young children, ages 4-8, who are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and their families. The following work provides a thorough examination of literature regarding the social-emotional effects of type 1 diabetes on the young child and his or her family; the specific developmental challenges that can arise due to an early type 1 diabetes diagnosis; and a detailed review of the current fictional children's literature available to this population. Childhood obesity is a major health crisis that is becoming an epidemic among children and adolescents. Interventions must begin early and focus on prevention strategies to achieve the goal of increasing quality years of life for today's children and families. Pedometers have been found to be a valuable teaching tool in physical education class at almost every level of education (Scruggs, Beveridge, Eisenman, Watson, Shultz & Ransdell, 2003). While there are a variety of different pedometer styles, shapes and sizes, the information that can be compiled from each can be just as different. The basic pedometer can measure steps taken, distance, time a person is in activity, calories burned and a few other fundamental measures. In addition, some pedometers record heart rate, have time-of-day displays, are weather resistant, have alternate metric capabilities and provide easy-to-read displays. There has been a …

Providing support from an experienced teacher through mentoring has been as one way to reform teaching and teacher education. To keep talented beginning teachers in the profession, more than 30 states have implemented some form of mentoring program for novice teacher assistance. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of formal training on mentor and student teachers' self-efficacy in physical education. The study included eight mentors and seven student teachers in the experimental group receiving training. The aim of this study was to investigate the participation motives of college students taking part in strength and conditioning training. The subjects were four university students. Observations, interviews and documents were utilized as the primary sources of data collection. The data were analyzed using number checking and triangulation techniques. The findings were organized into the following sections: need recognition, and belonging and affection motives. The participants’ needs to work out included losing weight, keeping fit, staying in shape, securing physical appearance, releasing stress, and establishing healthy lifestyles. Context: While evidence-based practice (EBP) concepts are being taught in health profession education programs, models of instruction and effectiveness of these models are not evident in athletic training.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of the Evidence-Based Teaching Model (EBTM) in increasing student knowledge, attitudes, and use of evidence-based concepts.

Design: Within subjects design with pre- and post-test evaluations of students' knowledge, attitudes, and intended use using the researcher-developed Evidence-Based Concepts: Knowledge, Attitudes and Use (EBCKAU) survey. Setting: CAATE-accredited undergraduate programs.
