The Quality Of Education In Tanzania: An Exploration Into Its Determinants, Sam Maghimbi 2012 University of Dar es Salaam

The Quality Of Education In Tanzania: An Exploration Into Its Determinants, Sam Maghimbi

Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences

Recent rapid expansion in school enrolment at all levels represents a profound challenge to parents and the government in Tanzania. There has been a very high increase in the number of school-going-age children from year to year due to high fertility. Government resources are thinly spread in very many schools, and there is fear that quality of education may be compromised. The paper presents the argument that there is in evidence a government-will-pay (gwp) attitude in the parents’ values. The parents’ contribution to secure improvement in quality of education is not forthcoming because of this belief, which is traced to …

Measurement Of Balance Disruption Following A Lower Extremity Injury In Female Soccer Players, Hannah Jaussen

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The main purpose for this study is to determine how balance is disrupted following an injury using the Neurocom Balance System, and also to track the progression through the rehabilitation process until the athlete is returned to participation. There are many reasons that this is beneficial not only to athletic trainers but also to the athletes. This provides objective information on the status of a person's balance, which prior to new technologies like the Neurocom System was impossible to measure. Athletic trainers can utilize this information to make better educated decisions regarding the athlete's rehabilitation, treatment, and return to participation. …

Evidence-Based Practice For The Athletic Training Profession, Cailee Elizabeth Welch 2012 Old Dominion University

Evidence-Based Practice For The Athletic Training Profession, Cailee Elizabeth Welch

Human Movement Studies & Special Education Theses & Dissertations

As evidence-based practice (EBP) becomes a necessity in athletic training, it is essential to recognize current barriers and modes of accessibility to information for enhancement of clinical decision-making. Furthermore, the effectiveness of educational interventions (EI) to enhance knowledge of EBP concepts must be investigated. The aim of Project I was to assess attitudes and beliefs, perceived barriers, and accessibility to resources of EBP among athletic trainers (AT). Project II was designed to investigate the effect of an EI on enhancing AT's knowledge of EBP concepts. Project III explored ATs' experiences of the EI and whether it elicited changes within their …

An Examination Of Alcohol Expectations And Social Desirability In Fraternity Members On American College Campuses, Pietro A. Sasso 2012 Old Dominion University

An Examination Of Alcohol Expectations And Social Desirability In Fraternity Members On American College Campuses, Pietro A. Sasso

Educational Leadership & Workforce Development Theses & Dissertations

Males who are members of American college fraternal organizations remain one of the heaviest drinking populations among college students (Wall, 2006). Within fraternities, alcohol use is ceded to social status (Larimer et al., 1997). This culturally ingrained alcohol misuse has confounded interventions and programming to address this phenomenon and response to these attempts have been low or nonexistent by fraternity members. This study investigated alcohol expectations and social desirability among fraternity members. It was hypothesized that as members enter and remain in the fraternity culture, distorted expectations and socially desirable behaviors may occur as demonstrated by differences between pledges and …

Whole-Body Vibration Training Reduces Arterial Stiffness, Blood Pressure And Sympathovagal Balance In Young Overweight/Obese Women, Arturo Figueroa, Ryan Gil, Alexei Wong, Shirin Hooshmand, Song-young Park, Florence Vicil, Marcos A. Sanchez-Gonzalez 2012 Florida State University

Whole-Body Vibration Training Reduces Arterial Stiffness, Blood Pressure And Sympathovagal Balance In Young Overweight/Obese Women, Arturo Figueroa, Ryan Gil, Alexei Wong, Shirin Hooshmand, Song-Young Park, Florence Vicil, Marcos A. Sanchez-Gonzalez

Health and Kinesiology Faculty Publications

Obesity is associated with early cardiovascular dysfunction and reduced muscle strength. Whole-body vibration (WBV) training may improve arterial function and muscle strength. The effects of WBV training on arterial stiffness (brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity, baPWV), wave reflection (augmentation index, AIx), brachial systolic blood pressure (bSBP), aortic systolic blood pressure (aSBP), heart rate variability, and muscle strength (one-repetition maximum, 1RM) were examined in 10 young (21±2 year) overweight/obese women (body mass index, BMI=29.9±0.8 kg m–2). Participants were randomized to a 6-week WBV training or non-exercising control (CON) period in a crossover design. WBV training (3 days × week) consisted of static …

Surf Lifeguard Perceptions And Practice Of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (Cpr), Kevin Moran, Jonathon Webber

International Journal of Aquatic Research and Education

While the importance of lifeguards in providing immediate and effective basic life support (BLS) in drowning has been well reported, not a lot is known about how lifeguards perceive the relative value of CPR as a lifeguard skill, their training in it, and the likelihood of resuscitation being successful. A self-complete questionnaire was completed by 252 volunteer surf lifeguards at 16 surf beaches in the Greater Auckland,NZ region. Results show that most lifeguards (65%) had received training in the 3 months before the survey, 83% were willing to perform CPR, few (9%) had used CPR in an emergency, and many …
