Background: Physical activity is important to maintain health and to prevent non-communicable diseases. Material/Methods: We evaluated physical activity in four domains (leisure time, occupational, domestic and transportation ones) and its sociodemographic correlates in 351 adult overweight and obese indigenous people in Sarawak, Malaysia. Physical activity was assessed using the Malay version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) long form. The data were analysed using SPSS version 20. Results: More than 40% of the respondents (43.5%) were obese. The overall median total MET-minutes were 6180.0 (IQR = 10229.0). A total of 53% of the respondents were moderately active with the …

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Background: Among specific coordination abilities, kinesthetic differentiation capacity of movement belongs to the most crucial factors fostering rational human behavior in the surrounding environment. The capacity is universal – indispensable in nearly all sports disciplines. One of the most important constituent elements of kinesthetic differentiation is the so-called “force sense,” defined as differentiation of movement with respect to administering appropriate force. The authors of the study analyzed the correlation between the maximum force level in lower limbs and the accuracy of applying a targeted force value. Material/Methods: The study was conducted on 54 participants, students from the University School of …

Position Accuracy And Fix Rate Of Athletes In Location Monitoring, Cezary Specht, Tomasz Szot 2022 Gdynia Maritime University, Poland

Position Accuracy And Fix Rate Of Athletes In Location Monitoring, Cezary Specht, Tomasz Szot

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Background: The two main factors determining the quality of motion monitoring are the accuracy of determination of position coordinates and the frequency of position logging (fix rate). Material and methods: A comparative analysis of contemporary photogrammetric, remote sensing and satellite methods shows a lack of uniform requirements in this respect with reference to the same sports. Considering the issue on an intuitive basis only, it seems obvious that the accuracy of position in 100-m sprint cannot be measured in metres, and the frequency of positioning should be sub-second. However, the precise values of these variables are not estimated. A mathematical …

Natural Law And Acts Of Extreme Climbers – Agonists Of The Mountain Stadium, Andrzej Pawlucki

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

The paper gives moral evaluation of feats done by extreme athletes who participate voluntarily in life-threatening stunts or races. The evaluation of the rightness of such extreme feats was based on the first principles of natural law. The law of nature obliges everybody to preserve their lives and forbids acts against one’s own life (do not kill yourself). Extreme athletes differ from others in terms of the attitude to the ontological structure of existence: from negation and mockery of life in the case of nihilists to a praise of life in the case of athletes and goes even further in …

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Background: Exercise-induced stressors activate leukocyte HSPA1A and HSPB1 gene transcripts. However it is not clear how plyometric training affects the expression of these genes in basketball players under plyometric exercise. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the changes in leukocyte HSPA1A and HSPB1 mRNA, in male basketball players after plyometric training. Material/Methods: Twelve male college basketball players (age 22.1 ±2.96 years) took part in this study. Peripheral blood (2.0 ml) was collected from the ulnar vein of each participant before and after a plyometric exercise to assess HSPA1A and HSPB1 mRNA relative expression of leukocyte via quantitative …

Physical Activity And Body Image Of Women: Literature Review, Sonia Mosur-Kaluza, Monika Guszkowska

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

This study represents a review of literature on the relationship between recreational physical activity and the body image. This research encompasses 39 papers published between 2008 and 2015 that were available in the Academic Search Complete database. The results of comparative, prospective, and experimental research are ambiguous. These data suggest both a positive relationship between the body image and physical activity, i.e. a more positive body image among more active people and an improvement in the body image as a result of regular exercise, and a negative relationship, in particular, a more negative body image in persons engaging in “aesthetic” …
