A skilled reader can understand and connect to relationships that are not explicitly stated in text. The process of making inferences can be divided into two categories: text and prior-knowledge-based. This paper offers examples of inference questions using the picture book, “It’s a Good Day” by Kevin Henkes, that teachers can use during shared book readings with emergent and reluctant readers.

The daily lessons cover topics such as a compass rose, cardinal directions, map titles, and physical features on maps and globes. By the end of this unit, students will be able to identify key elements and locate physical features of maps and globes. Through the use of songs, hands-on activities, games, books, and class discussions, students will be engaged throughout the unit.

“Me Dancing”: An Intrinsic Case Study Of Primary School Girls’ Understandings Of Movement And Dance Through Their Drawings, Rosemary Bennett, Jane Southcott

Children’s drawings powerfully illuminate their views and opinions about movement experiences in a range of environments. For younger children it is more pertinent to seek their ideas via their drawings. Using the voices and images of primary school age girls, we examine their understandings of movement and dance. Using an intrinsic case study method, two classes of eight-to-ten-year-old girls in a suburban primary school in Melbourne Australia were asked to produce a drawing of “me dancing.” Each child was invited to expand on their drawing in a short open-ended interview. While technology enhances learning, many teacher candidates still struggle to effectively integrate it into their teaching (Habibi et al., 2023). For instance, Seesaw is a widely used digital platform in K-12 classrooms but seldom explored in higher education. The purpose of this phenomenological qualitative study was to disclose the writing challenges faced by students in Grades 5–8 who have attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and writing strategies that can be helpful for these specific students. Six students were recruited as participants within a school district located in a suburban area in the Northeast region of the United States. This action research explores and reflects on the use of bilingual storytelling as a model for foreign language education in third-grade classrooms. Previous research indicates that familiar stories foster an ideal environment for young learners, shifting the focus to language rather than content (Kirsch, 2008). Providing students with opportunities to connect has never been more critical, especially in today’s increasingly isolated and divided society. By incorporating community-building circles into the regular classroom routine, educators can positively impact various aspects of students’ experiences in school. In this phenomenological qualitative study, I explored how school-building leaders’ perspectives, experiences, and knowledge impact the implementation and sustainability of social-emotional learning (SEL) programs in Northeastern U.S. schools. I conducted semistructured interviews with 10 elementary- and middle-school-building leaders to gain insights into their lived experiences and leadership practices related to SEL. Grounded in distributed-leadership theory (DLT), which emphasizes shared leadership, study results showed that all participants viewed SEL as essential to students’ well-being and academic success. However, leaders reported inconsistent implementation across classrooms and schools, accompanied by limited district support. Although schools promoted SEL in theory, participants noted a lack …
