Scholars have advocated for critical approaches to language education (e.g., Del Valle, 2014; Leeman & Serafini, 2016), including those that promote the development of Critical Language Awareness, CLA (e.g., Alim, 2010; Leeman, 2018). The goal is to develop students’ critical knowledge of the cultural, political, and social dimensions of language. To this end, Del Valle (2014) suggests the inclusion of language-related content units taught in the first or shared language from the early stages of language learning. The prevalence of in-school savings programs (ISSPs) for children and youth is widespread, but research on their effectiveness is limited. This study investigates the long-term effects of an ISSP conducted in one U.S. elementary school. Survey data were collected on the financial behaviors of high school students, who participated in or did not participate in an ISSP while attending the same elementary school at the same time. The results from a probit analysis of data controlling for demographic variables showed that ISSP participants compared with non-participants were more likely to have a bank account in high school. There is growing evidence of the effectiveness of project-based learning (PBL) in preparing students to solve complex problems. In PBL implementations in engineering, students are treated as professional engineers facing projects centered around real-world problems, including the complexity and uncertainty that influence such problems. Not only does this help students to analyze and solve an authentic real-world task, promoting critical thinking, but also students learn from each other, learning valuable communication and teamwork skills. The purpose of this qualitative multiple case study is to understand how teachers use HeidiSongs music as an instructional tool in the elementary school classroom. HeidiSongs uses multisensory structured language education to teach by engaging multiple senses simultaneously to increase retention. The theories guiding this study include Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences, which involves kinesthetic intelligences among other types of intelligences, and Krashen’s theory of second language acquisition. Long-term professional development (PD) initiatives are scant in the extant literature. This study examines the impact of a year-long, face-to-face teacher PD provided for teachers from a high-need elementary school to improve their personal writing and writing instruction. A mixed-methods approach was used to collect and analyze data primarily from pre- and post-surveys and interviews. Statistical analyses suggest that teachers’ self-efficacy toward writing instruction was improved, but not self-efficacy toward their personal writing. Various means of how the year-long teacher PD influenced their self-efficacy were demonstrated through qualitative analysis. Implications of conducting teacher PD on writing instruction were discussed.

As part of a larger MERC study, this report provides an overview of federal, state, and regional policies and practices relevant to teacher retention. Using key informant interviews and document analysis, the report addresses the following research questions: What teacher retention policies exist at the federal, state, and local levels? How are these policies structured at the state level and local levels? How do teacher retention policies vary across MERC divisions? Following the findings, the report presents recommendations for policy and practice.

This exploratory descriptive research study examined elementary school staff perceptions of ALICE active shooter response training and how participating in the training impacted staff perceptions of their own preparedness and their perceptions of their school’s level of safety. This study also examined elementary staff experiences of ALICE training. Participants answered a pre-survey, engaged in a half-day, scenario-based ALICE training, and then answered a post-survey. Results showed that participating in ALICE training had an overall positive impact on elementary staff perceptions of preparedness, confidence, and empowerment in regards to responding to an active shooter incident at their school. This qualitative study focused on the perceptions three elementary school teachers had regarding their ability to integrate technology into the writing curriculum as well as their understanding of how technology and multimodalities can actually be integrated. The three teachers were asked to reflect on their technology use in teaching writing for a 12-week period. Each was selected based on their self-reported Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK) as measured by a screening survey. Elementary students’ early development of embedding and disembedding is complex and paves the way for later STEM learning. The purpose of this study was to clarify the factors that support students’ embedding (i.e., overlapping shapes to form a new shape) and disembedding (i.e., identifying discrete shapes within another shape) through the use of filled shapes as opposed to shape frames. We recruited 26 Grade 1 students (~6–7 years old) and 23 Grade 3 students (~8–9 years old), asked them to work on two layered puzzle designs from the Color Code puzzle game, and interviewed them about their thinking processes. This paper explores the interconnectedness between Australian teachers’ literacy practices and their pedagogic identity during the global pandemic. In doing so, the paper presents pedagogic identity as a dynamic, ever-evolving construct involving teachers and their teaching environment. Findings are reported from a case study of early years and primary teachers. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect qualitative data. From teachers’ self-reported teaching experiences, we identify three orientations to pedagogic identity: The Driver; The Collaborator; and The Apprentice. บทความวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ 1) เพื่อเปรียบเทียบความสามารถในการคิดเชิงประยุกต์ก่อนและหลังการจัดการเรียนรู้โดยใช้ปรากฏการณ์เป็นฐานผสานแนวคิดสะเต็มศึกษาของนักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 4 และ 2) เพื่อเปรียบเทียบความสามารถในการคิดเชิงประยุกต์ของนักเรียนกลุ่มทดลองและกลุ่มควบคุม รูปแบบการวิจัยเป็นการทดลอง ใช้แนวคิดปรากฏการณ์เป็นฐานผสานแนวคิดสะเต็มศึกษาเป็นกรอบการวิจัย พื้นที่วิจัย คือ โรงเรียนสาธิตแห่งหนึ่งในสังกัดกระทรวงการอุดมศึกษา วิทยาศาสตร์ วิจัยและนวัตกรรม กลุ่มตัวอย่าง คือ นักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 4 จำนวน 60 คน ใช้วิธีเลือกแบบเจาะจง เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยมี 2 ชนิด คือ 1) แบบวัดความสามารถในการคิดเชิงประยุกต์ 2) แบบประเมินเชิงพฤติกรรมเพื่อวัดความสามารถการคิดเชิงประยุกต์ สถิติที่ใช้การวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลเพื่อเปรียบเทียบความสามารถในการคิดเชิงประยุกต์ระหว่างกลุ่มทดลองและกลุ่มควบคุม โดยใช้สูตร t-test for Independent และเปรียบเทียบสามารถในการคิดเชิงประยุกต์ก่อนเรียนและหลังเรียนของกลุ่มทดลอง โดยใช้สูตร t-test for Dependent วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้สถิติพื้นฐานผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1. หลังการจัดการเรียนรู้โดยใช้ปรากฏการณ์เป็นฐานผสานแนวคิดสะเต็มศึกษาของนักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 4 นักเรียนมีความสามารถในการคิดเชิงประยุกต์สูงกว่าก่อนการจัดการเรียนรู้ อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .05 2. หลังการจัดการเรียนรู้โดยใช้ปรากฏการณ์เป็นฐานผสานแนวคิดสะเต็มศึกษาของนักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 4 นักเรียนกลุ่มทดลองมีความสามารถในการคิดเชิงประยุกต์สูงกว่ากลุ่มควบคุม อย่างไม่มีนัยสำคัญที่ระดับ .05 ข้อค้นพบจากงานวิจัยนี้ผลการวิจัยนี้อาจเป็นข้อมูลเบื้องต้นในการพัฒนาการจัดการเรียนรู้รายวิชาวิทยาศาสตร์ในระดับประถมศึกษาให้ดียิ่ง ๆ ขึ้นไปได้ และจะช่วยในการพัฒนาความสามารถด้านการคิดเชิงประยุกต์เพื่อตอบสนองนโยบายประเทศไทยในการเตรียมพลเมืองสู่ศตวรรษที่ 21

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) เพื่อพัฒนาการตระหนักรู้ในตนเองด้วยการจัดกิจกรรมอ่านจับใจความโดยใช้เทคนิคการสะท้อนคิด 2) เพื่อเปรียบเทียบการตระหนักรู้ในตนเองของนักเรียนที่ได้รับการจัดกิจกรรมอ่านจับใจความโดยใช้เทคนิคการสะท้อนคิดก่อนเรียนและหลังเรียน กลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ใช้ในการศึกษา คือ นักเรียนระดับชั้น Year 6 โรงเรียนสาธิตมหาวิทยาลัยศรีนครินทรวิโรฒ ประสานมิตร (ฝ่ายประถม) โครงการหลักสูตรนานาชาติ ปีการศึกษา 2565 จำนวน 30 คน เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัย ได้แก่ 1) แผนการจัดกิจกรรมอ่านจับใจความ วิชาภาษาและวัฒนธรรมไทย ที่จัดการเรียนการสอนโดยใช้เทคนิคการสะท้อนคิด จำนวน 12 แผน 2) แบบสังเกตการพัฒนาการตระหนักรู้ในตนเองของนักเรียนเป็นรายบุคคล 3) แบบวัดการตระหนักรู้ในตนเอง ผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1) นักเรียนมีการตระหนักรู้ในตนเองเพิ่มขึ้นทั้ง 3 องค์ประกอบ โดยค่าเฉลี่ยของคะแนนการตระหนักรู้ในตนเองที่เพิ่มขึ้นสูงสุด ได้แก่ การประเมินตนเอง การตระหนักรู้ทางอารมณ์ และความเชื่อมั่นในตนเอง ตามลำดับ 2) นักเรียนที่ได้รับการจัดกิจกรรมอ่านจับใจความโดยใช้เทคนิคการสะท้อนคิดมีการตระหนักรู้ในตนเองหลังการทดลองสูงกว่าก่อนทดลอง อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .05

This study aimed to bridge the research-to-practice gap related to in-service supports and professional development by identifying factors associated with teacher use of evidence-based classroom management practices and responsiveness to a coaching intervention. Years of teaching experience was identified as a teacher-level intervention determinant with a strong research base in the classroom management literature; however few studies used direct observation of behavior to report difference among teacher behavior. The purpose of this explanatory sequential mixed methods study was to investigate how elementary teachers in Clay County, Florida rate their level of self-efficacy, while examining the specific leadership characteristics influencing self-efficacy from the perspective of teachers. Data on school discipline inequities have shown disproportionate numbers of Black students suspended and expelled compared to their non-Black counterparts. Despite the implementation of evidence-based solutions such as positive behavior supports and intervention, educator professional development, and restorative practices aimed at closing the racial discipline gap, little to no change has occurred. Critical Race Theory is used as a lens for viewing racial hierarchies as a socially constructed tool to oppress people of color.
