To increase the accessibility and utility of lecture capture recordings, schools may utilize automated speech recognition (ASR) to generate closed-captions and transcripts. But, how accurate are these systems? This study analyzed 50 ASR-generated transcripts using word error rate (WER) and further sought to determine factors that impact accuracy. Only 19 of 50 (38%) transcripts met the 99% accuracy standard required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The lecturer's accent was the most significant factor affecting accuracy, though medical jargon also presented a challenge. These findings suggest system improvements and manual review are necessary to ensure students receive accurate information.

This study examines how teacher educators critically engage with generative AI through narrative case studies, highlighting ethical and pedagogical considerations in teacher preparation. Grounded in threshold concepts —transformative disciplinary ideas that emphasize equity and justice —the research highlights educators’ concerns about AI’s impact on academic integrity, algorithmic bias, and teacher-student relationships. Analyzing discussions of the cases among multidisciplinary faculty and preservice teachers reveals tensions between AI’s transformative potential and the ethical challenges it poses. Findings underscore the need to integrate nuanced, reflective case-based learning into teacher preparation programs, fostering informed ethical decision-making and pedagogical adaptability in response to generative AI.

This study extends prior research examining K-12 teachers’ use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in southwest Ohio within the context of recent legislation requiring districts to adopt AI policies by July 1, 2026. Using thematic analysis, survey responses from teachers across two suburban public school districts were examined. Findings indicate that teachers continue to use AI primarily for planning and communication, with more advanced applications emerging since the previous study. Vocabulary development plays a critical role in supporting comprehension and content learning. This study explored seventh grade students’ engagement and motivation when learning vocabulary through technology-based and non-technology-based games. The purpose was to examine how gamified instruction influenced participation and learning. Findings indicated that students demonstrated higher levels of engagement and excitement when lessons included friendly competition. Both technology-based and non-technology-based games encouraged active participation and sustained attention during vocabulary instruction. GenAI has experienced rapid growth and controversy over its benefits, drawbacks, and ethicality in education. This study examines Illinois educators’ attitudes and classroom use of GenAI across middle school, high school, and higher education. Data was collected through a digital survey containing both quantitative and short-answer questions, yielding 330 respondents who were practicing teachers, along with five supplemental interviews. Preliminary results show that respondents ages 20–29 reported the highest understanding of how to use GenAI yet were also the most likely to express ethical discomfort, with 45.9% disagreeing that they feel comfortable using it ethically. The goal was to make R more accessible, user-friendly, and engaging for learners. To do this, existing written materials were moved to a new section of an online website called Stats Stuff. Then interactive features were added such as step-by-step video tutorials, real datasets, and an embedded coding tool.
