Phonics Instruction has had a controversial history. How to teach phonics to Spanish-speaking ELs is also controversial. Understanding the differences between Spanish and English and how phonics instruction occurs in each language would be insightful. Also, knowing how the nature of the two languages affects instruction would be beneficial. Furthermore, exploiting similarities between English and Spanish and examining differences will bolster instruction. This paper will discuss the reasons for word study and how it may be utilized to teach spelling and decoding to Spanish-speaking ELLs.

Despite massive amounts of time Korean English Learners (KLL) study English grammar, they continue to have problems becoming proficient in verb tenses, especially the present perfect. This study examines this problem through a linguistic comparative analysis of Korean and English present perfect and past tenses. Two possible reasons for KLL difficulty with verb tenses could be mode of instruction and L1 interference.

This study focuses on the outwardly similar cultures of Taiwan and mainland China and the subtle differences within them. The study was conducted as part of the requirements of doctoral program in Instructional Design and Development at a public university in the southeastern United States. Using a qualitative case study approach, the study demonstrates that there are cultural similarities between mainland China and Taiwan, however instructors should also be aware of the differences when developing relationships with students and developing course content. The purpose of this study was twofold: (1) to determine the effectiveness of virtual laboratories relative to traditional or blended laboratories in the attainment of conceptual knowledge and skill in microscopy, and (2) to explore how such technologies are integrated in real world classrooms. Four sections of a non-major’s introductory biology course were utilized for the study (N=100). After attrition, the maximum number of intact cases for each question was utilized. Results show no difference between groups in the attainment of conceptual understanding of microscopes parts and functions; however, the Traditional treatment condition scored significantly higher than both the Virtual …

Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) experience limited abilities in recognizing non-verbal elements of social interactions such as facial expressions [1]. They also show deficiencies in imitating facial expressions in social situations. In this Master thesis, we focus on studying the ability of children with ASD in recognizing facial expressions and imitating the expressions using a rear-projected expressive humanoid robot, called Ryan. The use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in undergraduate forestry education continues to expand and develop. Accuracy of data collection is an important aspect of preparation for "society-ready" foresters to meet the complex sustainable environment managing for ecological, social and economic interests. Hands-on use of a DJI Phantom 4 Pro UAS by undergraduates to measure the length and area of 30 linear features and areal features on Earth's surface were estimated. We have designed, developed, and implemented a student-facing learning analytics dashboard in order to support students as they learn in online environments. There are two separate dashboards in our system: a content recommender dashboard and a skills recommender dashboard. The content recommender helps students identify gaps in their content knowledge; the skills recommender helps students improve their metacognitive strategies. We discuss the technical requirements needed to develop a real-time student dashboard as well as report our inquiry into the functionality students want in a dashboard. This study aimed to explore the relationship between secondary school students’ digital literacy and their attitude towards using information and communication technology in a private secondary school in Karachi, Pakistan. For this study, the data were collected through survey questionnaire using google forms. The total sample size for this study was 344 secondary school students having almost equal ratio of male and female. This chapter focuses on the design approach used in the self-reflexive finale of the mobile augmented reality history game Jewish Time Jump: New York. In the finale, the iOS device itself and the player using it are implicated in the historical moment and theme of the game. การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ 1) เพื่อศึกษาสภาพและความต้องการจำเป็นในการพัฒนาความสามารถในการแก้ปัญหาเชิงสร้างสรรค์ 2) เพื่อพัฒนารูปแบบฯ 3) เพื่อศึกษาผลของการใช้รูปแบบฯ และ 4) เพื่อนำเสนอรูปแบบฯ กลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ใช้ในการพัฒนารูปแบบ คือ ผู้เชี่ยวชาญ จำนวน 7 คน กลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ใช้ในการทดลอง คือ นิสิตนักศึกษาระดับปริญญาบัณฑิต จำนวน 29 คน เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัย ได้แก่ แบบสัมภาษณ์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญ แบบประเมินรูปแบบ โลกเสมือนจริง แผนการจัดการเรียนรู้ เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูล ได้แก่ แบบประเมินความสามารถในการแก้ปัญหาเชิงสร้างสรรค์ และแบบสอบถามความคิดเห็นในการเรียนด้วยรูปแบบฯ วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้ค่าเฉลี่ย ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน การทดสอบค่าที (t-test) และ One-Way ANOVA ผลการวิจัยพบว่า รูปแบบการเรียนโดยใช้ปัญหาเป็นฐานและเทคนิคการคิดนอกกรอบบนโลกเสมือนจริง ประกอบด้วย 4 องค์ประกอบ ได้แก่ 1) ผู้เรียน และผู้สอนในฐานะผู้อำนวยการเรียนรู้ 2) โลกเสมือนจริง 3) การเรียนโดยใช้ปัญหาเป็นฐานร่วมกับเทคนิคการคิดนอกกรอบ และ 4) การประเมินการแก้ปัญหาเชิงสร้างสรรค์ของผู้เรียน ขั้นตอนการเรียนมี 7 ขั้นตอน ได้แก่ 1) การเข้าสู่โลกเสมือนจริงและมีปฏิสัมพันธ์ร่วมกันในกลุ่ม 2) การนำเสนอประเด็นปัญหาภายในกลุ่ม 3) การค้นคว้ารวบรวมข้อมูลจากแหล่งทรัพยากรการเรียนรู้เพื่อแก้ปัญหา 4) การพิจารณาแนวทางการแก้ปัญหาร่วมกันภายในกลุ่ม 5) การสร้างผลงานสร้างสรรค์ร่วมกันบนโลกเสมือนจริง 6) การทบทวนและนำเสนอผลงานแบบออนไลน์ และ 7) การประเมินการเรียนรู้ วิธีการแก้ปัญหา และผลงาน จากการศึกษาผลการใช้รูปแบบการเรียนฯ พบว่า ค่าเฉลี่ยของคะแนนความสามารถในการแก้ปัญหาเชิงสร้างสรรค์ จากการทดลองในครั้งที่ 1 3 และ 5 สูงขึ้นอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .05

Technology integration has significantly influenced the way students access and retain knowledge gained in the classroom (Ahmed, 2016). This is particularly relevant in classrooms for adult learners who engage in continuing education. This paper used a descriptive case study (Yin, 2014) to share how an instructor utilized mobile learning with a web-based polling tool, PollEverywhere, to gamify experiential learning for adult students in various roles within a southeastern state’s court administration—prosecutors, defense lawyers, magistrates, and jail administrators—and improve students’ engagement in the course and connection to course material.
