The aim of this research project is to fill a gap in understanding regarding the benefits of learning flow experiences for adolescents, and in particular, middle school students in educational settings. The workshop model contained in this document uses photographic storytelling as a creative activity for middle school students to experience flow. Background: The purpose of this literature review is to identify successful characteristics that have been found to be associated with effective precepting for the athletic training profession. Athletic training programs use preceptors as their main source of hands-on experience for athletic training students. Thus, a clinical preceptor who possesses these characteristics are better positioned to impact the success of a student’s clinical experience and overall growth. The use of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), also known as drones is increasing in geospatial science curricula within the United States. Within the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture (ATCOFA) at Stephen F. Austin State University, Texas, seniors in the geospatial science program complete capstone projects to evaluate current geospatial technology to investigate complex ecological, social and environmental issues. Attitudes Toward Co-Teaching In Higher Education: An Exploration Of The Circular Model Of Collegiate Co-Teaching, Alyssa Harter, Laura Jacobi

The Circular Model of Collegiate Co-Teaching (Morelock et al., 2017) examines power and authority structures, dynamics of co-teaching relationships, and co-teachers’ perceptions of co-teaching. The model does not include student perceptions, however, and it has not been applied to veteran-novice instructor pairs. The authors conducted a case study to explore the utility of the model with a veteran-novice instructor pair and to consider student perceptions. Twelve undergraduates in a communication course completed surveys, and the instructors kept reflexive journals. Findings confirm the utility of the model. In spring 2020, with the COVID-19 pandemic in full force, the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) Place as Text (PAT) Committee reimagined its longstanding City as Text™ (CAT) Faculty Institute model as an experimental virtual training titled “Reading the Local in the New Now” (RLNN). With the cancellation of two scheduled CAT Faculty Institutes because of the pandemic, the committee quickly shifted gears to develop and offer a fully online version of the program. The purpose of this literature review on locational disparity in rural education was to understand the complex problems facing rural students and educators. Resource inequities, lower population across an expansive area, and high poverty impact the educational achievement, postsecondary attainment, as well as the special education and gifted programs in these schools. Media rich video provides attributes such as animation, narration, and music that can be incorporated into learning modules which have high potential to promote learning. This project evaluated the impact of transitioning a learning module from static PowerPoint slides to animated (media rich) video on employee satisfaction, engagement, and knowledge retention. Learner satisfaction and engagement was measured using a validated survey instrument designed to evaluate the effectiveness, appeal, and efficiency of the animated video about Hospice and Palliative Care. Knowledge retention was measured by comparing post-test scores between the initial and subsequent second post-test. A retrospective design was used to …

This paper examines, critiques, and suggests improvements on the method of standardized testing in American schools. This paper discusses the history and development of standardized testing and its initial purpose and intentions. Additionally, the effects of standardized testing on students, teachers, and parents are evaluated, with special consideration on how high stakes testing adversely affects disadvantaged student groups such as children in minorities and low-income districts, bilingual students, and children with disabilities. The research suggests that standardized testing is not only damaging to students in these groups, but most likely not the most efficient way of testing student performance in …

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, faculty at a Hispanic serving institution shifted from face-to-face to totally online teaching. The authors describe two assignments for teacher candidates that required them to design and deliver lessons that focused on practicing two high-leverage practices utilizing Mursion, a mixed-reality simulation (MRS) software and platform. MRS sessions were delivered through Zoom video conferencing and were delivered asynchronously. Benefits, challenges, and limitations of using MRS in conjunction with Zoom in online courses were identified and discussed. Detailed logistics for planning, preparing, and executing MRS effectively were provided. The authors describe implications for remote learning …
