This portfolio is the outcome of the author’s studies in the Masters of Second Language Teaching (MSLT) program at Utah State University (USU) as well as her experience as a graduate instructor of Arabic at the same university.

This work has two main parts. The first comprises the three major components that present the author’s perspectives as a teacher, such as professional environment, teaching philosophy statement and the teaching observation.

The purpose of this dissertation was to determine the effects between sixth-grade male students from eight Arkansas school districts educationally identified with a 504 plan for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) versus all other males on reading, mathematics, and science achievement, as measured by the ACT Aspire Summative Assessment. Barkley’s framework for understanding ADHD theory was used as the theoretical lens to examine the research. Each hypothesis stated that no significant difference would exist between the two groups. This capstone project is on the effectiveness of research-based instructional strategies and assessments implemented in a fourth-grade science unit. The science unit required students to comprehend and explain the scientific processes that shape our Earth. The unit included 7 lessons taught over 2 weeks, involving science experiments and a pre- and post-assessment. The methods and materials, as well as the effectiveness of the strategies on students’ learning, were documented. It identifies why science is important for this demographic as well as what students and teachers need to improve science instruction within that setting. The project provides a curriculum map with leveled access to each of the Essential Elements detailed by the state throughout an academic year. This capstone project reports the differentiated instructional strategies implemented throughout a math unit in a first-grade classroom. The capstone will report the effectiveness of two instructional strategies and two assessment methods that were integrated into a math unit that focused on students’ understanding of story problems with a missing addend or subtrahend. The math unit had 13 lessons taught over four weeks between the pre- and post-assessment. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the education sector at large. This study aims to investigate which current education model best balances the sub-criteria of business viability and communication efficacy in the milieu of our modern context. In this study, five education models have been studied in order to uncover their performance in these two sub-criteria. Each model is analyzed in terms of its objective performance. The results reveal that in-person education provides slightly better scores for communication efficacy as well as much higher student and faculty satisfaction, while online education is incredibly economically viable. There is no existing research related to understanding this phenomenon. This phenomenological study included three participants who were purposefully selected based on specific criteria: They must teach math or English in grades 9, 10, 11, or 12 and have at least three years of teaching experience. Included in this applied knowledge project are details regarding how I developed a six-week unit on women’s literature using backward design, rationale behind my process and text selections, learning targets and Illinois Learning Standards for English Language Arts that are met through the instruction, and a complete set of 30 lesson plans, including assessments, handouts, and additional instructional materials.
