Effectiveness Of Arkansas Community Colleges' (Acc) Leadership Institute (Li) In Competency Development, Angela Dawn Caldwell
Student Theses and Dissertations
The pending retirements of community college leaders across the United States has been projected in the literature by numerous researchers. In 2008, Arkansas began to offer the Leadership Institute (LI) to develop future leaders for the community colleges in the state. This grow-your-own leader program was developed with input from current community college leaders as well as the Competencies for Community College Leaders, published by The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). This study investigated the effectiveness of the LI on the perceived development of the AACC Competencies for Community College Leaders, (2013). The study also assessed the perceived impact …

Colleges Of Education: Impact On Racial Equity, Jean Haar
Contemporary Issues in Educational Leadership
By their very nature, Colleges of Education have a heightened level of responsibility and opportunity to impact racism as they not only prepare future educators but also support current educators. As dean of a College of Education, I have been involved in strategic planning, goal setting, and data analysis that on the surface reflects an effort to address cultural competency and the need for preparing a more diverse pool of educators; however, the AERA message jolted me into more closely examining whether or not the college is truly meeting its obligations and having an impact on the existing racial disparity …

Nalb: No Administrator Left Behind: A Qualitative Study Regarding Administrators’ Perceptions Of Technology Integration, Scott Thomas Curcio
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
The purpose of this study was to explore the perceptions of K-12 principals regarding technology integration in their schools. Qualitative interview research was conducted to gather data regarding principals’ perceptions, attitudes, visions, and beliefs as they relate to this topic. This study was premised on the conceptual framework of Dr. John Collins’ (2009) Technology Leadership, Management and Policy Pyramid. The three sides of this pyramid are organizational integration activities, maintenance activities, and planning activities. According to Collins (2009), all three sides of this pyramid need to be effectuated simultaneously with committed leadership in order to support this model and achieve …

Hiring The Most Effective Teachers: An Examination Of Policy And Practice In Pennsylvania, Barbara Launi Powers
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
Hiring the most effective teachers not only has an impact on America’s children, but on America’s economic future as well. For two decades, much research about the failings of America’s schools has been conducted. Since the advent of No Child Left Behind (2002), never has more focus been applied to teaching quality. Hiring the best teachers for our children leverages the single largest in-school influence on achievement. James Coleman, in his seminal work, The Coleman Report (1967), notes that a child’s home socio-economic status and race are more significant influences than any in-house school influence. Subsequent research on teacher quality …

Contemporary Issues in Educational Leadership
In December 2012, the President of Fort Hays State University attended a meeting with faculty and staff from the Department of Advanced Education Programs. During the meeting, he asked an important question,” What are you doing for Kansans?” The question became a challenge for a few faculty members that helped guide the direction of an initiative to provide professional development support for teachers on technology integration in the 21st Century classroom. The President’s question provided the impetus to keep going and to develop a more succinct plan to provide support for schools; especially as schools developed Google Domains and began …

Avoiding The A.B.D. Abyss: A Grounded Theory Study Of A Dissertation-Focused Course For Doctoral Students In An Educational Leadership Program, Leslie Ann Locke, Melanie Boyle
The Qualitative Report
More than half of all graduate students drop out before graduation. Doctoral students often become mired in the “all but dissertation” (ABD) phase of the process. This grounded theory study focused on the perceptions and experiences of doctoral students in an educational leadership program, who were ABD, regarding their participation in a dissertation-focused intensive writing course called the Dissertation Boot Camp (DBC). Findings revealed participants had particular challenges with time, writing, and advisement. The DBC attended to many of these challenges by providing time, structure, encouragement, and support. Results of the study led to the development of a conceptual framework, …
