Abstract
The preparation of effective, knowledgeable and caring educators whose mission is to serve society through direct contact with and instruction of students, is the topic of this action research. We sought to determine how we as a teacher preparation program within a dynamic Catholic university could ensure that our Catholic identity was truly evident and nurtured in our teacher candidates as they prepare to engage in the extremely important job of offering what is a universal right to an education to PK-12 students, in a variety of learning environments. An Examination Of The Relationship Between Academic Entitlement And Education Financing Among Undergraduate Students, Nicola Ifill-Fraser
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Academic entitlement among students is a growing problem and concern for universities. Students with a sense of entitlement towards their education believe that positive academic outcomes are owed to them and should be awarded, not based on mastery of educational content, but on non-academic aspects of education, such as attending class, participating in class, or paying tuition fees. Additionally, academically entitled students have unrealistic expectations about the role of instructors and demanding attitudes and behaviors toward faculty. The factors precipitating these actions and behaviors appear to be multi-facted and remain unclear. To add to the growing body of literature on …

Are There Any Differences In The Perceptions Of Parents, Teachers, And Administrators Of The Purpose Of Alternative Learning Environments?, Tammy Lynn Edwards
Student Theses and Dissertations
Alternative education began to surface in North America as early as the 1950s, manifesting in two different venues; in urban areas as a way to provide an alternative for students who were failing school and in suburban areas as a reinvention of the educational system by way of innovative approaches to learning. In the post A Nation at Risk (1983) report era, alternative education has been used more as a means to siphon off the sometimes undesirable ‘at-risk’ students (violent, aggressive, mentally ill, etc.) from mainstream education. The sad truth is that nearly 70 years after their first appearance, alternative …

Abstract
With the worldwide use of English as a second language (ESL) and globalization, teachers are expected to understand, acknowledge and interact with culturally and linguistically diverse students and integrate their linguistic and multicultural backgrounds in classroom settings. Teachers need to be multicultural to be able to successfully impact their students to be multicultural. This paper provides English language teachers with valuable recommendations based on cross-cultural studies and my experience, as an ESL teacher, on how to be responsive to students from different cultures to empower and enhance their language proficiency skills.

The Story Of Growth: A Case Study Of New Jersey Underperforming Underprivileged High School, Michelle L. Shelton
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
Socioeconomics has been a factor that exposes the disparities in student achievement across communities within the state of New Jersey, and as a result of the disparities, in 1985, the Education Law Center filed the first ruling of Abbot v. Burke; this case ruled that significant funding be provided in an effort to ensure that underprivileged students within these underperforming districts receive public education in accordance with the state constitution. However, despite the funding efforts, since 1985, (87%) of the 31 school districts identified as Abbott not only remain underprivileged, but they also remain underperforming. Therefore, to remedy the underperformance …

In 2019, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln celebrated its 150th year. That celebration involved reflection on the past, as well as planning the University’s course into the future. As part of this planning, UNL Chancellor Ronnie Green appointed more than 150 stakeholders — faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members — to the Nebraska Commission of 150 to envision how the university can best serve the State of Nebraska and the world for the next 25 years.
The N150 Commission was divided into eight subcommittees, each charged with creating specific elements of the campus vision. The subcommittees were:

Pay for performance, also referred to as merit pay, is a compensation system that rewards employees relative to their job performance. When meeting or exceeding goals, individuals receive greater compensation compared to if they fall short of targets.
Advocates of PFP believe that compensation is a motivator and that greater quality and quantity of work can be incentivized by rewarding employees accordingly. Employees whose work does not meet goals may be incentivized to seek relevant training to strengthen skills or pursue a different role that is a better fit. Proponents believe PFP can lead to fairer compensation, strengthen the organization …

We explore the intergenerational occupational transmission between parents and their children as it pertains to entry into the STEM field. Using the Education Longitudinal Study of 2002, we study student’s aspirations to work in a STEM field and eventual STEM education and employment. We show how these patterns change depending on whether the student’s parents work in a STEM field. We find strong effects of parental occupation type on student’s STEM outcomes that are heterogeneous by student gender. High school boys are more likely to aspire to work in STEM if one of their parents do so. By adulthood, both …

Information technologies such as computers, mobile devices and telecommunications have become the principle change agents associated with the reshaping of higher education. As these technologies advance and evolve, end-user’s expectations continue to increase as they expect ubiquitous and reliable access to those technologies. At the same time many university technology support operations have struggled to keep pace with the needed infrastructure upgrades as well as maintaining the qualified support staff with expertise to meet these issues head on.
This challenge has been compounded over the years by the fracturing and decentralization of technology services and support along divisional and academic …
