In the United States, debates about private and faith-based education tend to focus on questions about government funding: which kinds of schools should the government fund (and at what levels)? Should, for example, students be able to use public funds to attend privately operated schools? Faith-based schools? If so, what policy mechanisms should be used to fund private schools—vouchers, tax credits, direct transfer payments? How much funding should these schools receive? After the landmark Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court case in 1954, it would make sense to assume that Black students and white students would have equal access to the same levels of educational attainment. However, research shows that Black students still graduate high school at disproportionate levels as compared to their white counterparts. This paper analyzes this issue of education inequality specifically through the lens of times of economic hardship to determine whether or not Black students experience disproportionately lower levels of educational attainment during times of economic downturn. A change project involving the use of innovative wearable simulation technology was integrated into the 12-week new graduate nurse ICU training program at one community hospital in Northern California. Project implementation was interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, so only the first pilot training session was conducted. Initial results from this training session suggest that the simulation training had a positive impact on the nurses’ ability to assess patient breath sounds and to recognize and treat a rapidly deteriorating patient. This training session also allowed the project team to identify additional areas of skill assessment and opportunities for improvement for the …

Facts And Trends Regarding Performance And Funding Of K-12 In Kentucky, John Garen

Kentucky’s K-12 experienced an 80% in increase in per pupil funds, after inflation, from 1990 to 2019. However, there have been only modest changes in its nationally-administered test scores, and no increases in the past decade. Moreover, per pupil funding seems to exceed that of all but the most exclusive private school tuition. Just over one-half of public funds goes directly to instruction and most funds to local schools come from Frankfort. Scoring on Kentucky’s own student assessment tests, the K-PREP, are higher than that of the comparable nationally-administered tests. Also, K-PREP shows improvement, while the other tests do not. …

In 2012, Governor Kasich instituted a call-to-action, “Campus leaders throughout Ohio must work together to rethink how the state allocates its investment in our public higher educational facilities.” (Ohio Higher Education Capital Funding Commission, 2016). The intent of Governor Kasich was to drive more equitable outcomes and opportunities in higher education, including capital allocation (2016). This study sought to investigate the availability and utilization of e-resources in university libraries for effective research output by undergraduates of Social Studies in south-east, Nigeria. It is a descriptive survey research design. two research questions guided the study. A sample of 191 students from four stratified randomly selected universities in south east, Nigeria, were used for the study. The instrument for data collection is the researcher’s designed and validated questionnaire, tagged: ‘The Use of E-Resources in University Libraries Questionnaire’ (UERULQ). Due to impending campus-wide downsizing, the Grand Valley State University (GVSU) Libraries projected that a worst-case scenario would result in a 14% cut to the library’s collections budget for fiscal year 2020. In the same year, GVSU Libraries welcomed several new members of its leadership team, including the dean, two associate deans, head of systems, head of collections, business administrator, and a vacancy after the long-time acquisitions manager retired. Budget cuts and staff turnover are tough, but they prompted a much-needed reassessment of roles, culture, and priorities in the library. This the third report from the New York ECE and COVID-19 Survey, which focuses on both the unique challenges faced by the family child care (FCC) providers who participated in the survey, as well as their particular resilience. At the time of the survey (May 2020), this group of participants was the most physically open form of ECE and was significantly more affected economically than their other ECE colleagues. Migration is often examined through different theories and approaches such as cultural theories, policy and economic frameworks and transnationalism. Most of these approaches unpack the key components of migration that include effects of social structures on agency, influences of transnational ties, migrants’ successes and lives in limbo as well as cultural norms and gender roles. This article describes the collaborative efforts of various state and national agencies working together to recruit and retain agriculture teachers in the states of Kentucky, South Carolina, and Ohio. We contrast multiple measures of recruitment and retention in these states with those from the comparator states of Arkansas, West Virginia, and Alabama. The strategies outlined market to new agriculture teachers and maintain current teachers in the profession targeting work-life balance, emotional, physical and social health.
