The luxury rebound following the Covid-19 pandemic has been more impressive than most would have thought. Scale continues to play an important role, physical stores are back, and while there are some clouds on the horizon, the outlook for the luxury sector remains incredibly positive for the long term. My optimistic outlook for the long term is predicated on the power of three consumer segments that will move the needle for the luxury sector–women, Chinese shoppers, and youth. In addition, the rapid speed of scaling-up and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) should provide a great boost to a post-Covid luxury world.

(Nov. 22, 2021) Master’s degree student Emily Napier won East Tennessee State University’s recent 2021 3 Minute Thesis (3MT®) Competition with a presentation on “The Instructor-Student Relationship: An Interpersonal Perspective.”

This competition, created at the University of Queensland, Australia, provides graduate students the opportunity to develop professional presentation and research communication skills. Participants condense complex research projects into engaging, three-minute presentations designed for a general audience using just one slide. Audience members learn what students in master’s and doctoral programs are studying and gain insight into the future of research, design and innovation in a variety of disciplines.

JOHNSON CITY – A new scholarship named in honor of the founder of East Tennessee State University’s Bluegrass, Old-Time and Roots Music Studies program was recently endowed in the ETSU Foundation.

The Jack Tottle Scholarship Endowment will provide scholarship assistance to recruit promising students who will be enrolled in Bluegrass, Old-Time and Roots Music in ETSU’s Department of Appalachian Studies. Eligible students must be new incoming or transfer students who display strong musical and academic potential and who are declared undergraduate majors or minors in Bluegrass, Old-Time and Roots Music Studies.

Starting March 11, 2020, the day that Chapman University announced that classes would transition immediately to remote in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Leatherby Libraries dramatically shifted its marketing strategy and the use of social media to communicate with the student body, faculty, staff, and other community member followers. The Leatherby Libraries used social media during the COVID-19 crisis as both a means of communicating urgent messages to its patrons and also as a tool for engaging community members in the absence of traditional
library tours, events, and exhibits.

Antecedents And Outcomes Of Duty Orientation Among Salespeople, James Deconinck, Drew Carnes, Mary Beth Deconinck

American Business Review

This study analyzed the relationship among ethical leadership, duty orientation, perceived organizational support (PSS), organizational citizenship behaviors (OCBs) and job performance among a sample of 45 sales managers and 203 salespeople. Duty orientation and perceived organizational support were found to mediate the relationship between ethical leadership and performance outcomes. Ethical leadership was a direct predictor of OCBs but not job performance. This study shows the importance of analyzing ethical leadership, duty orientation, and PSS and their relationship with OCBs and job performance in the salesforce.

Uganda aims to reach universal access to basic sanitation under Sustainable Development Goal #6, but achieving this target by 2030 would require doubling the annual rate of progress. Women are disproportionately affected by poor sanitation due to their health needs and risk of facing violence, but they have historically been excluded from sanitation planning. Low household demand and poor service delivery have stalled progress in Uganda. Market-based sanitation (MBS) is a novel method of developing a sanitation market through stimulating demand and supporting a competitive atmosphere for product and service providers. In 2016, the Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) released a research snapshot called “Voting and Civic Engagement Among Utah Women.” At the time, despite having a strong history of women’s political and civic involvement, Utah had fallen to the bottom of national rankings in terms of women’s political participation.
