This conceptual overview offers a comprehensive overview of systemic pathways that negatively impact the mental health of Black Men throughout their lives. Our argument highlights the importance for counselors and mental health professionals to utilize a thorough social risk assessment that considers these pathways in order to effectively address the mental health needs of Black Men while fostering positive working relationships. This overview strongly advocates for the use of context and structural determinants when evaluating mental health symptoms. Without an appropriate understanding of social risk and determinants, counselors may inadvertently perpetuate disparities by decontextualizing symptomology, and reproducing racist discourse.

Central nervous system (CNS) diseases caused by infectious agents pose significant health challenges, often leading to severe neurological dysfunction with high morbidity and mortality rates. Astroviruses (AstVs), traditionally known for causing gastroenteritis, have recently been identified as neuroinvasive pathogens capable of inducing neurological diseases. This study explores the cellular and molecular mechanisms by which AstV, specifically non-classical VA1 and classical HAstV1 genotypes, induce CNS pathology in human neurons and astrocytes. Utilizing primary human neurons and astrocytes from various brain regions, this research investigates the cytotoxic effects, apoptotic pathways, and inflammatory responses triggered by these viruses. Infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) accounts for nearly all cervical cancers (CESC), a subset of other anogenital squamous cancers, and increasing rates of head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSC), with each cancer type having heterogenous outcomes due to a general lack of personalized care. Large scale genomic analyses have catalogued the somatic alterations occurring frequently among squamous tumor types including HNSC and CESC, but few studies have incorporated a thorough analysis of HPV genomics. Antibodies produced by B cells are crucial for eliminating infectious pathogens and preventing secondary infection. However, antibodies may also bind to self-antigens and contribute to autoimmune disease. While pathogen infections have been associated with development of autoimmune diseases, the precise contributions of viral infections to autoimmunity remain elusive. The presence of autoreactive antibodies is associated with an increased risk of developing autoimmune disease. Thus, analyzing the impact of viral infection and vaccination on the development of autoreactive antibodies will provide essential insight into mechanisms that contribute to autoimmune disease.

Background: In the United States, it is estimated that there are more than 2 million cases of Hepatitis C (HCV), with over 66,000 new cases since 2020 However, an estimated 75% of those with HCV go undiagnosed and less than 35% receive treatment within a year of diagnosis. In 2018, UK Healthcare (UKHC) implemented a universal HCV screening method using a Best Practice Advisory (BPA) for anyone 18 and older who presented to the Emergency Department and had labs ordered. Introduction. Direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) has been developed for treatment hepatitis C virus (HCV). Therapy of HCV using DAA has shown high sustained virologic response (SVR) and shortening duration of therapy. Sofosbuvir-ledipasvir (SOF/LDV) is fixed dose combination tablet of DAAs which recommended for genotype 1, 4, 5, and 6 infected patients. In developing countries, SOF/LDV still can be used as cost-effective regimen in all genotype compared with sofosbuvir-daclatasvir (SOF/ DCV). Patients with comorbid illnesses are at risk for worse outcomes with a severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2; COVID-19). Our research examined patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) to establish whether it remains an independent risk factor for mortality and morbidity in patients with COVID-19.

Methods

We conducted a retrospective cohort study using an electronic patient database in 2020. INTRODUCTION: Profound sexual health disparities exist for Black men who have sex with men (MSM) in the US South, including a high prevalence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Sexually transmitted infection prevention strategies beyond condoms are needed for Black MSM taking preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP). METHODS: We conducted in-depth interviews with Black MSM taking PrEP in New Orleans, Louisiana. Informed by the Health Belief Model, we asked about participants' perceived susceptibility, severity, and concerns regarding STIs, and perceived benefits of STI prevention. Within the United States (US), 2.4 million individuals are living with chronic hepatitis B, but less than 20% are diagnosed. Isolated anti-hepatitis B core (iAHBc) antibodies indicate serology in an individual that is positive for anti-HBc antibodies, while negative for surface antigen (HBsAg) and surface antibodies (anti-HBs). A result of iAHBc could indicate a chronic occult bloodstream infection, necessitating further testing. This study assesses the prevalence and risk factors associated with anti-HBc and iAHBc within community high-risk screening in Greater Philadelphia. To investigate the frequency, profile, and severity of COVID-19 breakthrough infections (BI) in patients with type I diabetes mellitus (T1DM) compared to healthy controls (HC) after vaccination. The second COVID-19 Vaccination in Autoimmune Diseases (COVAD-2) survey is a multinational cross-sectional electronic survey which has collected data on patients suffering from various autoimmune diseases including T1DM. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is the first reported human oncogenic virus and infects more than 95% of the human population worldwide. EBV latent infection in B lymphocytes is essential for viral persistence. Glycoprotein gp42 is an indispensable member of the triggering complex for EBV entry into B cells. The C-type lectin domain (CTLD) of gp42 plays a key role in receptor binding and is the major target of neutralizing antibodies. The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted the population as a whole. However, the incarcerated population (which also experiences a variety of health disparities) has been disproportionately affected by the pandemic. Due to overcrowding, poor ventilation, and lack of resources, the incarcerated population already is at a heightened risk for negative health outcomes, made worse by the recent pandemic. Many HIV-positive (HIV+) males on Highly Active Anti-Retroviral Therapy (HAART) experience metabolic abnormalities, including Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) and lipodystrophy. The intestinal microbiota and short chain fatty acids (SCFA), participate in bidirectional communication with their host. Dysbiosis in HIV+ males on HAART demonstrate a Prevotella-rich enterotype shaped by multiple factors including, medications, adiposity, diet, intestinal permeability, and lifestyle; our objective was to investigate these factors. 19 HIV+ and 21 HIV- males were enrolled. Objective: To compare rates and risk factors of severe COVID-19-related outcomes between American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) and non-Hispanic White people (NHW).

Methods: Aggregate Social Vulnerability Index (SVI), COVID-19-related risk factor, hospitalization, and mortality data were obtained from 16 states for January 1, 2020-March 31, 2021. Generalized estimating equation Poisson regression models calculated age-adjusted cumulative incidences, incidence ratios (IR), and 95% confidence intervals (CI) comparing AI/AN and NHW persons by age, sex, and county-level SVI status.

Results: Race data were missing for 42.7% of COVID-19 cases, 24.7% of hospitalizations, and 10.1% of deaths. Risk of AI/AN COVID-19 mortality …
