Sensory Properties And Firmness Of Some Fermented Dairy Products Made From Cow And Ewe's Milk, Ni̇hat Akin

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Concentrated fermented bifidus milk, acidophilus milk, Bifidus yogurt, Bioyogurt and yogurt were made from cow's and ewe's milk by using ultrafiltration and traditional methods. Sensory analysis and firmness was determined from concentrated fermented milk samples. The firmness of concentrated fermented milk products produced from cow's and ewe's milk by using ultrafiltration and traditional methods were significantly different (p < 0.05). However, the type of starter culture used and the interaction between product types and production methods was not significantly different (p > 0.05). Further, the different type of milk used and products were significantly affected on sensory properties of samples. All the products from cow's milk were marked with high scores. This study was carried out to investigate serum Ca and P levels in 31 cows with retained placenta (RP) and 8 cows without RP (control group). The RP was observed following normal parturition in 21 cows (RPP), and the remaining 10 cows had RP after abortion (RPA). Serum Ca and P levels did not differ significantly between the cows with RP and the control group (p>0.05). Pathomorphological and biochemical findings related to experimental sodium toxication were studied. Sixty male chicks were divided into five different groups. Sodium bicarbonate (group-1 and 2) and sodium chloride (group-3 and 4) were added into tap water at 6 and 12 g/l doses, respectively. The chicks in all groups were fed on standart chick and standart broiler ration. Cardiac enlargement and various degree of visceral uricosis were the main macroscopic lesions detected in group-1 and group-2. In group-3 and 4, such macroscopic lesions cardiac enlargement, testicular edema, hemorrhagic gastritis as were detected. Microscopic examinations showed the lesions related to macroscopic ones. …

This experiment was conducted to study the effects of different enzyme supplementation to wheat-and barley-based diets on the live weight gain, feed efficiency, dressing percentage and ileal pH of broiler chickens. Two hundred fourtyfive, day-old Ross-PM3 chicks were randomly assigned to a control and four treatment groups. Serum samples collected from randomly-selected 395 cattle between June-November 1997 from the districts and central villages of Elazığ were used to determine the seroprevalence of Leptospirosis in cattle. Microscopic Agglutination Test (MAT) was used to examine serum samples for antibodies to L. hardjo, L. grippotyphosa, L. pomona and L. icterohaemorrhagiae. Positive results were obtained from eight (2.03%) samples; seven (1.77%) of which were agglutinated with L. hardjo and one (0.25%) with L. grippotyphosa antigens. In this study, the effects of water current on nutrient components of trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) were investigated. One year old fish averaging 550±0.06 g were used in the experiment which lasted for 3 months. In the experiment, the fish were reared in two tank of 1800 l each in the first tank (group A), water current was 1.5-2 fish length (25 cm)/sn while in the second tank (group B) there was no water current. The aim of this study was to research the effects of ultrasonography, vaginal cytology, a serum biochemical profile, complete blood count and blood gas analysis in 18 bitches in the diagnosis of cystic endometrial hyperplasia (CEH)-pyometra complex. In transabdomimal ultrasonography, it was observed the the majority of anechongenic areas differed with the thickness of the uterine wall. Ovine immunoglobulin M was isolated from sheep serum using gel filtration and affinity chromatography. Polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies against this isotype were prepared. The specificity of the monoclonal antibody was investigated using SDS-Page, immunoblotting, an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and affinity chromatography. On immunoblotting, monoclonal anti-IgM reacted with a 70 kD protein which corresponded to ovine IgM.

The location of extrinsic afferent and efferent neurons projecting to the rat gastrointestinal tract were mapped using the retrograde tracer, True Blue (TB). Injection of retrograde tracer, TB into stomach, proximal colon and distal colon resulted in labelled cells in the dorsal root ganglia. Cells were also labelled in the nodose ganglia following injection of tracer into stomach and proximal colon. The present work was undertaken to show the histological structure and histometrically features of thymus and bursa of Fabricius of native geese. The general histologic structure of bursa of Fabricius was similar to the structure of many other birds stated in literature. By histometrical measurements, it was determined that the mean thickness of cortex and medulla of the lymphoid follicles in plicae were 89.06±3.23 ??and 196.8±3.08 ??respectively. In this study, 30 Budgerigars ( Melopsittacus undulatus) with Knemidocoptes pilae infection were treated with a spot-on application of moxidectin (Cydectin® Injection For Cattle) at a dose of 1 mg (0.1 ml Cydectin) per bird. This application was given once to 10 birds and twice at 10 days intervals to 20 birds. Clinical signs in all birds of both groups disappeared 30-40 days after treatment. No side effects were seen.

This study aimed to investigate relationships between steroidogenic characteristics and abilities, and some macroscopic characteristics of bovine ovarian follicles and to relate this criterion to the physiological status of the follicles. Follicular fluid of 5 to 8 mm diameter follicles from bovine ovaries (n=46) were analysed and steroidogenic activities of granulosa cells were studied. For the macroscopic classification of the follicles (n=232), appearence of the follicles, thecal vascularization, the colour of theca interna and the presence of follicular debri were determined. In this study; macroscopic and microscopic changes induced by Avian Encepholomyelitis Virus (AEV) in turkey embryos were investigated. For purpose 0,1 ml. AEV-VR (Van Roekel Strain) at Embriyo Infective Dose 50 of 10 -3 diluted in steril saline at 1/10 ratio was inoculated into 7-day-old emriyonated turkey eggs via yolk sac. This paper reports an investigation of the effects of acute and chronic carbon tetrachloride intoxications on the histologic structure of the liver and hematological values and electrocardiograms in rabbits. The rabbits were divided into 3 groups of 7. The first group was the control group, the second group was acutely intoxicated and the third group was chronically intoxicated. The investigation was performed to develope sire lines for lamb production at Acipayam state Farm. For this purpose, German Black Face (A) x Acipayam (AC) and Ramliç (R) x Acipayam (AC) cross-bred were used. According to the results; Fecundities are 109%, 72.0%, 85.0%, 95.0% and 85.0% for ACxAC, AxAC, RxAC, AxAC and RxRAC cross-bred groups respectively. Weaning weights are also 22.45 kg, 22.23 kg, 24.38 kg, 21.48 kg and 23.06kg for AC, AAC, AAAC, RAC and RAAC genotype respectively.

The aim of this study was investigated the bones of pelvic limb of two porcupines (Hystrix cristata). Incisura acetabuli was narrow and when examining at ventral direction the surface areas of the ilium bones were parallel while the wing (ala ossis ilii) and the body (corpus ossis ilii) were very wide and narrow, respectively. The iliac tuberosity (tuberositas iliaca) was approximately 2/3 of the sacropelvic surface (facies sacropelvina). The tuber coxae is beak shaped. The iliac crest (crista iliaca) was convex. The arrhythmias occurring and caused to death during the anaesthesia is generated endogenous release of epinephrine or norepinephrine. Therefore, the effects of yohimbine (alpa-2 blocker), prazosin (alpha-1 blocker), metoprolol (beta-1 blocker) on the arrhythogenic dose of epinephrine in 10 dogs anesthetized with xylazine and kethamine combination, were researched in this study. The infusion of epinephrine, 1 mg/ml/min; yohimbine, 0.125 mg/kg; prazosin, 0.1 mg/kg; metoprolol 0.5 mg/kg in dose were made intravenously. In this study, seasonal variation in blood glucose levels in Barbus plebejus escherichi living in Çoruh Basin-Oltu Stream was determined. The average blood glucose levels were observed to be 185.27±15.79 mg/dl in males, 157.05±10.52 mg/dl in females and 174.74±9.04 mg/dl in the total population.

This experiment was conducted to determine breeding techniques, colony foundation rate, colony and worker development in the laboratory of field-collected Bombus terrestris queens. One hundred and sixty-seven naturally mated queens were captured from the Aegean region in autumn. The queens were individually in cages at 28-30°C and 50-60 % R.H. in the dark. Every 2-3 days, sugar solution (50 %) and pollen paste were supplied and 4-5 young honeybees were added to the cages. One-year old rope grown mussels ( Mytilus edulis L.) were held in experimental lantern nets at 2 m and 6 m depths in Loch Kishorn on the west coast of Scotland. Growth, mortality and shell morphology were monitored from May 1993 to August 1994. Water temperature, salinity, transparency and food availability were also determined. These showed a clear seasonal cycle, in consequence, growth of mussels was relatively rapid from May to November and very slow during the rest of the year. The objectives of this study were to investigate the environmental factors influencing litter size and postpartum ewe live weight and to estimate the repeatability for these traits and for pre-weaning growth rate in Awassi breed. Least squares means for litter size and ewe body weight were 1.08 and 57.6 kg, respectively. Repeatability estimated by the intraclass correlation method was 0.03, 0.46 and 0.26 for litter size, ewe body weight and pre-weaning growth rate, respectively.
