The Avian influenza virus (AIV) H5N1 has been responsible for the culling and deaths of millions of birds since 2022 with concern for wildlife, livestock, and human infections occurring as well. With eggs flying off the shelves in grocery stores, even individuals not involved in the agricultural industry have seen the drastic effects of this disease first-hand. For chickens, this virus works quickly and overpowers the innate immune system before the adaptive immune system has time to properly respond. Enterocytozoon bieneusi is now recognised as an emerging pathogen, which can cause a series of intestinal diseases in humans and animals. However, limited information is available about the occurrence of E. bieneusi in hedgehogs. In this study, a total of 205 fecal samples of captive wild hedgehogs (Erinaceus amurensis) were collected from two wildlife conservation centers in Henan and Anhui provinces, China. Genomic DNA was extracted from the stool samples and screened by nested PCR targeting the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequences. Hantaviruses are zoonotic agents that play a significant role in global public health, primarily due to their ability to cause two highly severe clinical syndromes: Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS), which is predominant in Eurasia, and Hantavirus Cardiopulmonary Syndrome (HCPS/HPS), which is primarily found in the Americas. This study examined the rabies knowledge, vaccination, and risks of exposures of horse owners/overseers across the state of Kentucky. Research was conducted to determine the need for public health educators and veterinarians to inform the public on rabies. Survey results concluded that respondents' general knowledge of rabies transmission and mortality rate was respectable, but knowledge relating to equine vaccination was comparatively lower. A weak inverse relationship was observed between general rabies knowledge and concern over an individual’s horses contracting rabies. A weak positive correlation was determined when looking into general rabies knowledge and the likelihood of vaccinating an individual’s horses. …

Toxoplasma gondii and Neospora caninum are heteroxenous apicomplexan parasites recognized as major causes of reproductive disorders in numerous mammalian species. The present study aimed to assess through an epidemiological survey, the prevalence of reproductive losses in 75 dromedary herds during the period 2022-2025, as well as the associated risk factors, and to detect these protozoa by histopathological analysis in 63 dromedaries slaughtered at the slaughterhouse of El Oued province (126 samples: 63 hearts and 63 diaphragms). This study developed rapid detection of Megalocytivirus using visual and real-time loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assays. The primer was designed with the major capsid protein gene of Megalocytivirus, including red sea bream iridovirus (RSIV), infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus (ISKNV), and turbot reddish body iridovirus (TRBIV). The visual and real-time LAMP assays were evaluated using DNA extracted from symptomatic betta fish that tested negative for Megalocytivirus by the broad-range PCR assay, as well as a chemically synthesized Megalocytivirus DNA template. Mycoplasma hyorhinis is a significant pathogen in swine, yet its fastidious nutritional requirements present challenges for in vitro cultivation. Conventional supplements like horse serum (HS) often suffer from batch variability and potential inhibitors. This study aimed to evaluate chicken serum (CS) and chicken egg yolk (CY) as novel alternatives to develop a reliable cultivation method for M. hyorhinis. The family Moraxellaceae is made up of a diverse group of 24 named species that fall into three phylogenetic groups. While most Moraxella spp. act as commensal respiratory and/or ocular flora of mammals, some are associated with disease. One of these diseases, infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis (IBK), has significant welfare and economic impacts to both cattle and cattle producers. Cryptosporidium spp. is the most frequent agent in Algeria that causes neonatal diarrhea in calves, with high symptomatic diarrhea in pre-weaned dairy calves. The study aims to measure the prevalence, distribution, and genotype of Cryptosporidium-infected calves in one of Algeria's high milk production areas (North Central and Northeast). From 35 dairy cattle farms were selected 172 (77 with diarrheic and 95 without diarrheic symptoms) calves aged less than 60 days. Twenty-three farms (65.71%) were detected with cryptosporidiosis using a modified Ziehl-Neelsen stain, whereby 68 calves (39.53%) were obtained positive. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), porcine parvovirus (PPV), and porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) infections associated with fetal losses in 10 commercial swine herds in Thailand. Samples were collected from 100 sows and included 25 aborted fetuses, 35 mummified fetuses, and 40 stillborn piglets. The average parity number of the sows was 2.8 ± 2.4, ranging from 0 to 11. Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) and M. synoviae (MS) are important pathogens causing significant economic losses in poultry production. Disease prevention and control strategies include vaccination, antimicrobial therapy, and strict biosecurity measures. The present study provides, for the first time, both minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum mycoplasmacidal concentration (MMC) values as antimicrobial susceptibility profiles of Thai MG and MS field isolates. In March 2020, AHS was first reported in Thailand due to the importation of subclinically infected host animals, such as zebras. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) is a simple and practical serological assay for CSFV antibody detection. This study investigates Senecavirus A (SVA) in Thai swine using 932 clinical samples, comprising 185 serum samples and 747 vesicular fluid and lesion tissue samples. These samples were collected from suspected cases between 2010 to 2021 at pig farms in the northern, western, and central regions of Thailand by the Swine Viral Evolution and Vaccine Development Research Unit (SVEVR) at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. Government agencies and landowners use a variety of lethal methods to reduce invasive wild pig populations and resulting agricultural damages. To provide decision-makers with information regarding Alabama farmers’ experiences with wild pigs and their preferences for management actions, we surveyed Alabama Farmers Federation members in 2020. We found that wild pigs were commonly present on livestock, timber, and crop production acreage, but wild pig damages and costs were much more common among crop producers. A captive red kangaroo was diagnosed with disseminated toxoplasmosis based on clinicopathological and immunohistochemical (IHC) investigations. Two years later, a five-year-old Parma wallaby was kept in the same area as the red kangaroo and showed clinical signs of depression, withdrawal from the troop, and weakness. In this study, meta-analysis on prevalence and zoonotic significance of cryptosporidium infection in camels was performed. This study was completed following the instructions of PRISMA. Data were extracted afterward a complete search, and eligible articles were identified. The data were analyzed using a specific software program for meta-analysis, and the results included effect size, confidence intervals (CI), heterogeneity, and publication bias. A total of 4075 camels from 18 accepted studies were investigated for cryptosporidium infection. Of all, 287 camels were found positive for cryptosporidium infection, with a prevalence of 7.04%. Bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV) is the main agent of the bovine respiratory disease complex (BRD). Its circulation among the Algerian bovine population has been strongly suspected but never confirmed. This study investigated the prevalence of BRSV in cattle in eastern Algeria. From 2022 to 2023, a total of 225 serum and 102 lung tissue samples were collected from farms and slaughtered cattle of different ages. Samples were tested for BRSV antibodies by Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) and BRSV antigens by Direct Immunofluorescence Test (DFAT). A young male Dachshund dog who came to the animal hospital was diagnosed with conjunctivitis on clinical examination. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius was identified as a result of culture and bacteriological examination of the conjunctival swab, and then antimicrobial susceptibility test. Methicillin resistant S. pseudintermedius identified with the VITEK-II Compact device was also confirmed by molecular methods so that susceptible antibiotics were selected for the treatment of the patient and reported. A classifier tool was created to identify major serogroups of Moraxella bovis based on spectral profiles collected from bacterial cells through the use of Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy. M. bovis strains were selected from a group of previously sequenced and genotyped isolates, which provided the pilin sequence type for each isolate. The obtained spectroscopic profiles were analyzed through artificial neural networks to create a classifier tool that could identify the PilA type for unknown strains.
