Oral Manifestations Of Covid-19, Ibeth Erazo
Oral Manifestations Of Covid-19, Ibeth Erazo
Publications and Research
Some oral manifestations have been observed in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, there is still a question about whether these lesions are due to coronavirus infection or secondary manifestations resulting from patient's stress, medications, and/or other related immunosuppressive factors and systemic conditions or by the actions of opportunistic infections brought by other viruses, bacteria, and fungi in the oral cavity. There is growing evidence that angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), the main host cell receptor of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), is highly expressed on the cells of the oral mucosal epithelia and of the salivary glands, …

Human saliva is a unique biofluid which can reflect the physiopathological state of an individual. The wide spectrum of molecules present in saliva, compounded by the close association of salivary composition to serum metabolites, can provide valuable information for clinical diagnostic applications through highly sensitive vibrational spectroscopic techniques such as Raman spectroscopy. However, the nature of saliva, in terms of collection and patient-related characteristics, can be considered factors which may strongly affect the Raman spectral profile of salivary samples and disrupt the search for specific salivary biomarkers in the detection of diseases. The main objective of this study was to …

Establishing The Minimally Important Clinical Difference For The Oral Health Impact Profile In Malaysians Provided With Removable Partial Dentures, Siti Fauzza Ahmad
Student Works (2020-2029)
Future demand for a removable partial denture (RPD) remains as more adults retain their natural teeth into old age. Partial tooth loss often leads to masticatory function disturbances and negatively affects the quality of life (QoL). Prosthodontic rehabilitation with RPD improves QoL; however, the statistically significant change with many Oral Health-Related Quality of Life (OHRQOL) instruments, may not be clinically meaningful. The Malaysian version of Oral Health Impact Profile, OHIP(M)-45 questionnaires has been validated and adapted; however, its clinical interpretability has not been established. The smallest change in OHRQoL score perceived by a patient as beneficial, following an intervention, is …

S. Gordonii-Produced Hydrogen Peroxide Modulates Mir-663a And Ccl20 Expression In Oral Epithelial Cells, Marshall Houston Maynard
Theses and Dissertations--Medical Sciences
The mechanisms through which a persistent recognition of commensal bacteria by oral epithelial cells (OECs) mitigates an uncontrolled inflammatory response of the oral mucosa remain unknown. CCL20 secretion by OECs in response to pathogenic bacteria is regulated by S. gordonii (Sg)-induced miR-663a; nevertheless, the mechanisms involved in these Sg-modulated responses remain to be elucidated. Since Sg is a hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) producer, and H2O2 has been shown to stimulate miRNA expression, we hypothesized that H2O2 could be involved in Sg-induced miR663a and CCL20 responses. Expression of miR663a …

Role Of Extracellular Adenosine Triphosphate (Eatp) On Immunomodulatory Function Of Human Periodontal Ligament Cells, Maythwe Kyawsoewin
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Background: Adenosine triphosphate, a nucleotide that acts as an important extracellular messenger, is released into the extracellular environment during various physiologic and pathological conditions. Human periodontal ligament cells (hPDLCs) can release adenosine triphosphate into the extracellular environment in response to mechanical stress. Extracellular adenosine triphosphate (eATP) plays role in both inflammation and osteogenic differentiation processes. eATP also participates in immunosuppressive action on immune cells. However, the role of eATP on the immunomodulatory function of hPDLCs is still unclear. This study aims to investigate the effects of eATP on the immunomodulatory function of hPDLCs and the participation of specific purinergic P2 …

In the clinical situation, pulp exposure can happen during caries removal procedures. Inflammation can occur on the pulp of the exposed area because of infiltration of bacteria from caries or as a result of pulp reaction to caries removal drilling. When the pulp was exposed during the caries removal procedure, traditional methods to preserve the pulp such as pulp capping and pulpotomy were performed. The ideal treatment outcome of the pulp exposure is to regain the primary structure of tubular dentin as well as maintain the vitality and healthiness of the dental pulp Thus, good dental materials or drugs used …

Effect Of Shear Force On Immunosuppressive Property Of Human Periodontal Ligament Cells, Ravipha Suwittayarak
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The immunomodulatory property is to regulate immune cell function. IDO and TGF-β1 inhibited T cell proliferation and induced regulatory T (Treg) cells differentiation. However, this property must be activated by inflammation. Recently, mechanical forces have also activated this property. Hence, this study investigated effect of shear stress on immunosuppressive property of hPDL cells. Cells were subjected to shear stress then expression of IDO, TGF-β1, IFN-gamma and COX2 mRNA and protein was examined by qRT-PCR, ELISA, and IDO activity. Conditioned media derived shear stress were treated with CD4+ T cells. The proliferative T cell effect was determined using resazurin. The FOXP3, …
Effects Of Small Molecules In Wnt Signaling On Human Dental Pulp Cells, Chatvadee Kornsuthisopon
Effects Of Small Molecules In Wnt Signaling On Human Dental Pulp Cells, Chatvadee Kornsuthisopon
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Osteoblast differentiation requires interaction of several cell signaling to coordinately modulate cell responses. Understanding the integration between signaling pathways provides an insight into molecular mechanism that governs stem cell differentiation. Notch, Wnt, and Interleukin15 (IL15) signaling are among the crucial pathways that control biological processes including osteogenic differentiation. Therefore, this dissertation was focused on modulating these signaling pathways in human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs). First, the roles of Wnt signaling in dental pulp homeostasis and dentin regeneration were reviewed. Previous evidence suggested that Wnt might be a promising target cell signaling for dentin regeneration. Thus, effect of Tideglusib, a …
