BACKGROUND: Several studies have demonstrated varying rates of efficacy, reliability, and sensitivity of sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) in identifying occult nodal disease for early stage oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC) depending on the radionuclide agent utilized. No head-to-head comparison of cost or clinical outcomes of SLNB when utilizing [99mTc]tilmanocept versus [99mTc]sulfur colloid has been performed. Adenoid ameloblastoma with dentinoid (AAD) is a rare benign neoplasm of odontogenic epithelium, with under 50 cases having been reported in the literature. AAD shares histopathological characteristics with both ameloblastomas and adenomatoid odontogenic tumors. They are unique because of dentinoid deposition without enamel. We present a case of AAD in the maxilla of a 13 year old. The patient was treated with left infrastructure maxillectomy and left partial infratemporal fossa dissection. This case reports on an extremely rare disease process in an uncommon location in a pediatric patient.

To combat this dreadful disease, we investigated effects of certain natural compounds on the hallmark signatures including glycosylation transcripts levels in oral carcinoma.

Methods: The tongue carcinoma cells- SAS cells were treated with tobacco compounds, natural compounds and Cisplatin. RNA was isolated from the cells and converted to cDNA. RT-qPCR was performed to evaluate expression levels of various genes.

Polymicrobial intra-abdominal infections (IAI) can lead to life-threatening sepsis with significant morbidity and mortality, especially when pathogenic fungi are involved. We have employed an established clinically relevant mouse model of fungal/bacterial IAI and shown that immunization with low-virulence Candida species, that is, Candida dubliniensis, can induce responses that protect against sepsis via the suppression of lethal inflammation. This protection is dependent on long-lived Gr-1(+) polymorphonuclear leukocytes that display characteristics consistent with myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) and trained innate immunity. Dentistry is a highly stressful program; stress is associated with xerostomia and periodontal disease.

Objective: This study aims to investigate the association of perceived stress, severity of xerostomia, and periodontal status in dental students.

Methods: This was a two-phase cross-sectional study of 245 Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) undergraduate dental students. Phase 1 involved administration of the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) and Summated Xerostomia Inventory (SXI). In phase 2, the Community Periodontal Index (CPI) was performed on 150 students to determine their periodontal status.

The aim of the present study is to determine the prevalence and demographics of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) condylar changes in the asymptomatic general population of a hospital based Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) practice. We retrospectively reviewed cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans of 272 TMJs from 136 consecutive patients to detect osteophyte, subchondral cyst, sclerosis, cortical erosions, and flattening. While gender did not appear to play a significant role in TMJ pathology, age was positively correlated with prevalence of condylar changes.
