Backgrounds and aims: Abdominal aortic calcification (AAC) is associated with weaker grip strength, an established risk factor for fall-related hospitalizations. However, its association with long-term fall-related hospitalisations remains unknown. This study investigated the association between AAC and long-term fall-related hospitalizations in community-dwelling older women. Methods: Fall-related hospitalizations were obtained from linked data over 14.5-years in a prospective cohort of 1053 older women (mean age 75.0 ± 2.6 years). This study examined the influence of economic cycles on safety performance in Western Australia. A secondary analysis of 577,778 occupational injuries reported to WorkCover (Western Australia) from 2003 to 2019, was undertaken. Changes to occupational injury rates were compared to fluctuations in macroeconomic and microeconomic indicators sourced from the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Economic indicators were compared to injury rates in the industry groups: agriculture, mining, manufacturing and construction, to determine if these industries are more sensitive to changes in economic cycles. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) plays an important role in the pathogenesis and spread of Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI). Many antimicrobials, such as fluoroquinolones, have been associated with outbreaks of CDI globally. This study characterized AMR among clinical C. difficile strains in Thailand, where antimicrobial use remains inadequately regulated. Stool samples were screened for tcdB and positives were cultured. C. difficile isolates were characterized by toxin profiling and PCR ribotyping. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was performed by agar incorporation, and whole-genome sequencing and AMR genotyping were performed on a subset of strains. Alpine ski racing requires high levels of isometric, eccentric, and concentric muscle actions through wide ranges of hip, knee, and ankle mobility. The course duration of ∼ 40 seconds for slalom racing to upward of 2.5 minutes for downhill racing necessitates high levels of anaerobic endurance, aerobic power, and force production to be successful. In addition, due to the highly technical skill aspect of ski racing, neuromuscular coordination is of utmost importance. This review identifies the most effective performance testing methods for alpine ski racing, as well as highlighting their relevance to the physiological parameters of the sport.

Background

Nursing is a high-risk occupation for work-related musculoskeletal disorders and many nursing students have a history of musculoskeletal symptoms.

Aims

To quantify (1) changes in exercise and musculoskeletal symptoms from pre-registration to 12-month registered nurses, and (2) the best predictor of severity of musculoskeletal symptoms from measures of the five physical fitness components and exercise participation.

Methods

In this longitudinal study, August 2013 to April 2015, 62 (55.9%) of 111 nursing students fitness tested completed questionnaires measuring nursing work history, exercise, and musculoskeletal symptoms at baseline and 12 months post-registration.

As such, rapid, robust and reliable methods for their analysis are of increasing importance. Herein is described a simple extraction method for the analysis of bile acids in feces suitable for subsequent quantification by liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry. Programmatic assessment (PA) is an increasingly popular approach to competency-based assessment (CBA), yet evaluation evidence is limited. This study aimed to identify and explore supervisor attitudes before and after implementing a novel PA using a sequential explanatory mixed methods design. In phase one, a survey was used to identify supervisor perspectives on work-based placements, PA and CBA. Survey results were then applied to develop focus group questions to further explore supervisor attitudes.

Objective:

The current study aimed to explore whether the subjective effects of microdosing psychedelics are comparable to those of yoga in relation to psychological wellbeing, depression, anxiety and stress. It also explored the relationship between yoga, microdosing and personality.

Method:

The sample comprised 339 participants, yoga (n = 131), microdose (n = 69), microdose and yoga (n = 54) and control (n = 85). All completed measures of personality (M5-50 and Tellegen Absorption Scale), mood (Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-21) and wellbeing (Ryff Scales of Psychological Wellbeing).
