Indonesia is an agricultural country with the potential to grow many plants as natural fiber sources. In order to improve its properties, natural fiber needs to be treated by applying nanomaterial so that it can compete with the characteristics of synthetic fibers. The study aims to determine the influence of adding titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles on pineapple leaf fiber (PALF) characteristics. However, there are ways to harness abundant resources like solar energy and seawater to produce clean water. Bioethanol is an alternative fuel that has a high octane value of around 100 to 110, making it difficult to be applied to spark ignition engines directly. So, it is necessary to make adjustments, including increasing combustion efficiency and thermal efficiency of the combustion chamber by increasing the compression ratio and adjusting the ignition system, both in single spark ignition (SSI) and dual spark ignition (DSI) types. The TiO2 film is immersed in a graphite oxide solution, preparing it for thermal reduction, which converts the graphite oxide to reduced graphene oxide (rGO). This process produces rGO hybrid TiO2 photoanodes for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC). rGO in the TiO2 structure prevents electron recombination and improves overall efficiency. The main advantage of this method is its ability to prevent loss of rGO during the sintering process, which is a common problem with other methods. Energy is a fundamental factor for civilization development and sustainability. However, energy sources are dominated by non-renewable fractions, such as fossil fuels. Renewable biomass is projected to be a future fuel source. Spirulina platensis (SP) has numerous advantages compared to other biomass, and it is considered 3rd generation biomass that does not interfere with food and land usage and has a relatively low main decomposition temperature at 325.7℃. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was conducted to observe SP kinetics parameters, especially activation energy. Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) production so far has its own advantages and disadvantages. Some methods that can be used in producing CNTs are chemical vapor deposition (CVD), laser ablation, and arc discharge. The three methods have their own requirements, this causes different environmental impacts on each method. Studies into the environmental impact of the CNTs production process found that during thermal pretreatment of the reactant gas, more than 45 by-products were formed, including methane, volatile organic compounds, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. The focus of this work was to create a process to fabricate an InP-based Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC). The design of the PIC required the photonic components of this device to be created by deep etching of an epitaxially-grown multilayer structure. Therefore, a novel dry etching process was developed to produce very high aspect- ratio (HAR) features. This process not only involved the development of dry etch chemistry but also the engineering of a metal mask structure. Fully reversed tension–compression fatigue of a hybrid material comprising polymer matrix composite (PMC) co-cured with a ceramic matrix composite (CMC) was investigated. The PMC portion had a polyimide matrix reinforced with 15 plies of carbon fibers woven in an eight-harness satin weave (8HSW). The CMC portion had three plies of a quartz-fiber 8HSW fabric in a zirconia-based ceramic matrix. The hybrid PMC/CMC was developed for use in aerospace thermal protection systems (TPS). Magnesium (Mg) is a promising alternative to lithium (Li) in solid-state batteries due to its abundance and high theoretical volumetric capacity. However, the sluggish Mg-ion conduction in the lattice of solid-state electrolytes (SSEs) is one of the key challenges that hamper the development of Mg-ion solid-state batteries. Though various Mg-ion SSEs have been reported in recent years, key insights are hard to be derived from a single literature report. The unstable zinc (Zn)/electrolyte interfaces formed by undesired dendrites and parasitic side reactions greatly hinder the development of aqueous zinc ion batteries. Herein, the hydroxy-rich sorbitol was used as an additive to reshape the solvation structure and modulate the interface chemistry. The strong interactions among sorbitol and both water molecules and Zn electrode can reduce the free water activity, optimize the solvation shell of water and Zn2+ ions, and regulate the formation of local water (H2O)-poor environment on the surface of Zn electrode, which effectively inhibit the decomposition of water molecules, and thus, achieve the thermodynamically stable …

Two major challenges, high cost and short lifespan, have been hindering the commercialization process of low-temperature fuel cells. Professor Wei’s group has been focusing on decreasing cathode Pt loadings without losses of activity and durability, and their research advances in this area over the past three decades are briefly reviewed herein. Regarding the Pt-based catalysts and the low Pt usage, they have firstly tried to clarify the degradation mechanism of Pt/C catalysts, and then demonstrated that the activity and stability could be improved by three strategies: regulating the nanostructures of the active sites, enhancing the effects of support materials, and …

Powder-bed fusion (PBF) processes refer to a subset of Additive Manufacturing (AM) techniques where powder is spread on the build-plate before melting (by a laser or electron beam). While PBF processes are attractive due to their ability for realizing complex structures that are either difficult or impossible to create through conventional means, the parts fabricated with these techniques can exhibit defects such as pores, inclusions, and excessive surface roughness. Transition Metal Dichalcogenides (TMDs) are a unique class of materials that exhibit attractive electrical and optical properties which have generated significant interest for applications in microelectronics, optoelectronics, energy storage, and sensing. Considering the potential of these materials to impact such applications, it is crucial to develop a reliable and scalable synthesis process that is compatible with modern industrial manufacturing methods. Air cleaning reduces indoor exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) during wildfire smoke events. However, resource and cost constraints may limit access to air cleaning during such an event, as both commercial devices and the higher-rated MERV filters that do-it-yourself (DIY) assemblies typically rely upon tend to be expensive and in short supply. With these constraints in mind, we developed and evaluated several configurations of a novel, DIY air cleaner that uses common household fabrics as filtration media. Fire-retardant chemicals added to epoxy thermosets used as coatings, adhesives, and fiber-reinforced polymer composites (FRPCs) negatively impact performance and the environment. This dissertation takes a novel approach to mitigate the flammability of these systems by designing intrinsically fire-resistant epoxies via the incorporation of furan moieties. Glycidyl amines based on furfuryl amine and judiciously selected derivatives of furfuryl amine were synthesized to produce furan-based di-epoxies (FDEs) that were cured by anionic polymerization and with amine curing agents. The furan ring was found to impart additional reactivity for cross-linking and to induce char-forming reactions at higher temperatures. More importantly, the placement of …

Since the industrial revolution, global anthropogenic CO2 emissions have surged dramatically to unsustainable levels, resulting in severe issues, such as global warming, extreme weather events, and species extinction. In response to this critical situation, extensive efforts have been undertaken across academia, industry, and policymaking sectors to deploy carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies. Here, we present the annual summary of global CCUS for the year 2023. We begin by discussing the trends of anthropogenic CO2 emissions and atmospheric CO2 concentrations, and then offer an up-to-date summary of progress in academia, industry, and policy, respectively. The study presents a comprehensive investigation into the development, characterization, and machining analysis of novel bio-based polymer hybrid composites comprising Polylactic acid (PLA), bamboo powders (BP), and montmorillonite clay particles (MMT). Initially, the hybrid composites were fabricated using a solvent-free stir casting process, optimizing the weight percentages of BP and MMT to enhance mechanical and thermal properties.
Mechanical tests, including tensile, flexural, and impact tests, along with thermal analysis using thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry, were conducted to evaluate the performance of the composites. Fano resonances result from the interference between a broad background and a narrow state, producing asymmetric scattering profiles. Under specific conditions, destructive interference collapses the Fano resonance width, leading to bound states in the continuum (BICs) that localize light within a nanostructure while maintaining an infinitely high-quality factor (Q-factor).
This dissertation explores the design of nanostructures with multilayer hybrid plasmonic-dielectric metasurfaces using full-wave numerical simulations, facilitating multiple Fano resonances and BICs. By adjusting nanoantenna dimensions, multiple modes are excited at plasmonic-dielectric interfaces, leading to strong interactions and hybridization of energy levels, manifested as Rabi splitting.

The purpose of this work is determination of crystal structure and Hirschfeld surface void analysis for many intermolecular interactions in the crystal structure of 1,3-dihydro-2H-benzimidazole-2-iminium-2-hydroxy-5-sulfobenzoate.. For the first time, a new organic salt containing organic benzimidazolium cations and sulfosalicylic anions was synthesized and structurally characterized. Hirshfeld surface analysis confirm that in the crystal shape most remarkable contacts are H∙∙∙O (38%) and H∙∙∙H (29.7%) There are some π–π stacking interactions in the crystal shape.

The purpose of the study is extraction of the indene from pyrolysis oil obtained from the pyrolysis of hydrocarbons at the Ustyurt gas processing plant. Indene is isolated by rectification from the composition of pyrolysis oil formed as a by-product of the process of hydrocarbons pyrolysis at the Ustyurt gas processing plant. Polymethyleneindenesulfocationite was synthesized on the basis of isolated indene, and its structure and physicochemical properties were determined. Chromatomass spectrum of pyrolysis oil was obtained and analyzed. The purposes of the study are the synthesis of granular aluminum oxide and magnesium-aluminum spinel using various residues formed during thermochemical regeneration of adsorbents deactivated by chloride compounds, the physicochemical characteristics and catalytic properties of catalysts. The main parameters for processing aluminum-containing waste using sulfuric acid technology to produce pseudoboehmite have been identified. The article studies the influence of solid-phase and melt synthesis methods on the structure and electrochemical properties of the Na3Fe2(PO4)3 polycrystals. If the solid-phase synthesis of the Na3Fe2(PO4)3 polycrystals (type 1 of samples) is carried out using ceramic technology, initially glassy precursors are first obtained by melting the starting materials under the influence of optical radiation energy at the melt synthesis method, and the Na3Fe2(PO4)3 polycrystals are obtained after firing (type 2 of samples).
