This study explores perceptions and alignment of a student information system implementation in 2 urban public high schools with Roger’s theory of diffusion. Stakeholders included principals, deans, teachers, counselors, clerical personnel, and parents. Findings aligned with Roger’s stages of organizational change and stakeholders noted issues that helped and hindered implementation.

This review of recent literature examines the research on the impact of service-learning on student retention. The theoretical framework of the review draws on both Tinto’s model of student attrition and Knowles’s theory of adult learning, which together suggest that academic and social integration, active participation and engagement in learning, and application and relevancy of the subject-matter under study are key factors in student success. The role of these factors has been confirmed in a growing body of research around learning experiences in general and, as this review shows, particularly in service-learning experiences. The purpose of this research study was to determine whether using the teaching method of students sharing a positive moment at the start of the class period would impact classroom culture including teacher-student relationships and peer support. The qualitative research was conducted in an eighth grade writing class in a charter school northwest of the Twin Cities. Data was collected through a teacher observational journal, student journals, and student surveys to determine the participants' reactions to sharing positive moments at the start of the class period. Content humor is a useful strategy in drawing the attention of students and improving their receptivity toward scientific information. While we often associate reading aloud with children and particularly younger children, the practice of reading aloud has historically been a way for a community to share texts for information and enjoyment. Findings from a year-long study of a school librarian collaborating with a team of second grade teachers demonstrates the value of reading aloud in building background knowledge and vocabulary, modeling, understanding curriculum, creating common texts, and reading for enjoyment. Reading aloud brought other voices to the table in a clear example of intertextuality. Implications are shared for school librarians interested in similar practices as well as future research …

This study intends to contribute to the literature by seeking evidence of a relationship between teacher characteristics and their high school students’ academic success in college. In this study, average college success is defined by six outcomes. The outcomes consist of the average first-year college GPA, average hours completed, percentage of students returning for a second year, percent of students receiving a GPA above a 3.0, percent of students completing 30 plus hours in their first year, and the average college math GPA. Background: Physical activity (PA) levels are a key performance indicator for policy documents in Ireland. The first Ireland Report Card on Physical Activity in Children and Youth aims to set a robust baseline for future surveillance of indicators related to PA in children and youth. Methods: Data collected between 2003-2010 on more than 35,000 7- to 18-year-old children and youth were used and graded using a standardized grading system for 10 indicators.
