Six-Year College Graduation Status For High School Students Participating In An Upward Bound Program, Raymond Upward Cabrera

This study examines the impact of high school academic indicators and participation in the federally funded Upward Bound program on college graduation rates for first-generation, low-income students. Specifically the extent to which participation in the federally funded TRIO Upward Bound program and related factors—high school GPA, course rigor, program involvement, gender, race, and college type—predict 6-year college graduation rates for first-generation, low-income students. Using stepwise logistic regression analysis on data of 163 students in an Upward Bound program in the Southeast, the results show that students with higher GPAs, active engagement in the program, and females were significantly more likely …

My vision for this work was fueled by postmodernist critiques of humanist education, frustrations with the methodological status quo pervasive in educational research, and deep concerns about the unsustainability of performance-focused teaching and learning.

Through the framework of orientalism, this paper examines the historicism behind satirical illustrations created by artists and editors in Puck Magazine which depict the Boxer Rebellion, spanning from 1899 to 1902. In doing so, I aim to explore the nuances in which mass-produced visual satire seeks to justify Western hegemony. Widely published and distributed in the United States, Puck was a satirical magazine from the late 19th and early 20th century, and one of the first satirical magazines to contain colored lithographic covers. The purpose of this study was to investigate the intricate relationship between generational cohorts and the efficacy of technology integration in the context of teacher burnout, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. As educators transitioned from virtual online instruction back to blended or traditional face-to-face learning environments, this study explored teachers’ sense of technological efficacy in adopting and integrating various technological strategies and its relationship with their experiences of burnout during these shifts. This dissertation is a case study of a large school district and it’s high school principals’ approach to instructional decision making for students with disabilities. This study explores how principals utilize teaching resources and make instructional decisions for students receiving special education services on their campus. Using district-wide quantitative data on special education students in high school, this study offers a comprehensive view of how these students are served. Additionally, five in-depth interviews with high school principals currently serving in the district provide qualitative insights into leadership practices. Background: Retinal cavernous hemangiomas are rare, benign vascular tumors usually encountered incidentally on routine examination. Although usually asymptomatic, complications have been reported and can result in vision loss. Ancillary imaging modalities such as fundus photography, fluorescein angiography, optical coherence tomography, and optical coherence tomography angiography provide valuable information about the lesion and possible associated findings. Case Report: A 66-year-old Caucasian female presented to the clinic for a comprehensive exam with mild blurry vision in both eyes with current spectacles. Background: Herpes zoster is caused by reactivation of the varicella zoster virus with spread along the dorsal root ganglion and sensory nerve to a dermatome. In herpes zoster ophthalmicus (HZO), involvement of the ophthalmic (V₁) branch of the trigeminal nerve results in ocular sequelae and often presents with a characteristic pseudodendrite. Reactivation within cranial nerve VII can lead to the neurologic complication of facial nerve palsy on the affected side. Background: Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disease disorder that affects the skeletal muscles causing increased fatigability and weakness. When it affects the ocular muscles only, it is known as ocular myasthenia gravis (OMG). Patients with OMG will often have symptoms of diplopia and ptosis, which will be worse towards the end of the day. This case report will discuss the common symptoms of OMG as well as the appropriate treatment and management. How we speak of education and how we use this information to improve it begs the questions of character and audience. In these questions is the larger consideration of equity. Capillaries, the smallest blood vascular networks, are formed by narrow and elongated endothelial cell (EC)-lined tubes with associated pericytes anchored to the abluminal tube surface. Our laboratory demonstrated that dynamic interactions between ECs and pericytes during capillary tube network assembly are required for basement membrane matrix deposition and maturation. We have also shown that key EC-derived factors promote pericyte recruitment, proliferation, and pericyte-induced basement membrane formation during capillary assembly. In the first section, we aim to identify if vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) respond to the same factors and have the same invasive ability as pericytes since they are both …

From teachers to principals to superintendents, Black women continue to struggle for opportunities to lead in the educational setting. This qualitative, phenomenological study examined the lived experiences of eight Black women who achieved educational leadership positions in K-12 education to understand how their race and gender have informed their personal lives and professional journeys. Participants were obtained via a convenience sample and individually interviewed on four main topics: their perceptions of the impact of race and gender on the availability of contemporary educational leadership positions, their own experiences attempting to secure leadership roles, how stereotypes and biased ideology have affected …
