This research analyzed the messages that both the Government of Uganda and the National organization of persons living with Hepatitis B use to communicate to at-risk populations in order to enable them take up the vaccination against Hepatitis B. Content analysis was carried out on two electronic fliers circulated from the ministry of health’s program in charge of Hepatitis control and treatment, and one hard copy flier from the National organization of persons living with Hepatitis B. In this essay, drawing on our ethnographic work at the “margins of the margins” in Aotearoa New Zealand, we depict the role of communicative pedagogy for radical democracy in sustaining spaces for community participation in pandemic response. Based on accounts offered by community advisory group members and observations of emergent community spaces of co-operation amidst the pandemic, we suggest that the ongoing work of building co-creative pedagogy for “habits of democracy” is vital to community response. This experimental study tested whether a professor’s form of address (FOA) and email signature influenced students’ perceptions of the professor’s credibility, approachability, and likability. Guided by communication accommodation theory, the study investigated the likelihood that students would reciprocate a professor’s FOA in email communication. Participants were randomly assigned to one of seven conditions varying by professor FOA (doctor, professor, first name) and email signature (present or not), with a signature only control condition. Results indicated students were more likely to reciprocate the FOA when an email signature was not present. Science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) related fields comprise the top 30 occupations expected to grow the fastest by 2026. This increase in job opportunities, coupled with the evolution of technology, is creating higher demands for diversity in the labor market. Currently all students require innovative training and support from a young age to pursue STEM careers successfully. The positive association between educational attainment and adult health (“the gradient”) is stronger in some areas of the United States than in others. Explanations for the geographic pattern have not been rigorously investigated. Grounded in a contextual and life-course perspective, the aim of this study is to assess childhood circumstances (e.g., childhood health, compulsory schooling laws) and adult circumstances (e.g., wealth, lifestyles, economic policies) as potential explanations. In this historical moment defined by the coronavirus, the global community struggles with and against a seemingly invisible foe. Students, faculty, and administrators open the blinds on windows in the morning, witnessing the brightness of the sun and seemingly the clarity of a morning welcome. Research often references years of experience specific to participants, yet no compiled report exists for secondary school-based agricultural education (SBAE) to holistically quantify years of teaching experience. In addition, definitions accounting for experience fall short of capturing the myriad ways experience counts in the broader teaching profession. Our study addresses this missing piece of the teacher retention puzzle. Using Quiñones, Ford, and Teachout’s (1994) conceptual framework for work experience measures, our study quantified teacher experience in the National Association for Agricultural Education (NAAE). การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ 1) เพื่อเรียบเรียงเสียงประสานบทเพลงขับร้องประสานเสียงภาษาไทยสำหรับวงขับร้องประสานเสียง 4 แนว (SATB) ระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาตอนปลายขึ้น จำนวน 3 บทเพลง ได้แก่ บทเพลงชื่นชีวิต บทเพลงงามแสงเดือน และบทเพลงสดุดีจอมราชา 2) เพื่อนำเสนอแนวทางการสอนขับร้องประสานเสียงด้วยบทเพลงภาษาไทยที่เรียบเรียงขึ้น กลุ่มตัวอย่างในการวิจัยเป็นกลุ่มตัวอย่างแบบเจาะจง ได้แก่ 1) บทเพลงขับร้องประสานเสียงภาษาไทยที่เรียบเรียงขึ้น 3 บทเพลง 2) ผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิในการประเมินบทเพลง 3 ท่าน เครื่องมือในการวิจัยได้แก่ แบบสังเกตและวิเคราะห์บทเพลง และแบบประเมินบทเพลงขับร้องประสานเสียง วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลเชิงคุณภาพด้วยการวิเคราะห์เนื้อหา และนำเสนอข้อมูลแบบความเรียงโดยใช้การพรรณความ ผลการวิจัย พบว่า 1) บทเพลงขับร้องประสานเสียงดังกล่าวทั้ง 3 บทเพลง ได้เรียบเรียงเสียงประสานให้มีความเหมาะสมกับนักเรียนระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาตอนปลาย ประกอบด้วย ด้านทำนองและเสียงประสาน ด้านจังหวะ ด้านคำร้อง และระยะช่วงเสียง 2) แนวทางการสอนบทเพลงขับร้องประสานเสียง ประกอบด้วย 2.1) แนวทางการสอนด้านทำนองและเสียงประสาน ได้แก่ การฝึกร้องบันไดเสียงและขั้นคู่เสียง การฝึกกระบวนการหายใจและการควบคุมลมหายใจ การฝึกร้องโน้ตเอื้อนในภาษาไทย การฝึกร้องประสานเสียงแบบแคนอนผสมผสานกับการประสานเสียงแบบ 4 แนว การฝึกเรื่องความสมดุลของเสียง และการร้องโน้ตแขวน (Suspension) และโน้ตเกลา (Resolution) 2.2) แนวทางการสอนด้านจังหวะ ได้แก่ การฝึกจังหวะส่วนโน้ตให้คงที่ การร้องจังหวะโน้ตประดับ (Acciaccatura) การร้องประสานเสียงลักษณะดนตรีประกอบเลียนแบบเสียงเครื่องดนตรี (Vocal percussion) และการฝึกร้องจังหวะโน้ตตัวแรกให้พร้อมเพรียงกัน และ 2.3) แนวทางการสอนด้านคำร้อง ได้แก่ การร้องเสียงวรรณยุกต์ในภาษาไทย การร้องพยัญชนะต้นและคำควบกล้ำ และการร้องคำที่มีตัวสะกด

Curricula developers have not been aligning high school career and technical education (CTE) business curricula to prepare high school students for college business courses. The purpose of this research was to explore and seek to understand misalignment issues regarding CTE business curricula at a public school district and three surrounding colleges in the southern United States. Environmental degradation is considered one of the biggest issues facing humankind. The problem is deep and global with fast fashion playing a significant, yet underrealized role. Scholars have established that developing the sustainable behaviors necessary to mitigate the effects of environmental degradation is a complex process, that knowledge of environmental degradation alone is insufficient to develop sustainable behaviors, and that both attitudinal and behavioral transformations are necessary for global environmental action and stewardship. First-generation college students in engineering accumulate bodies of knowledge through their working-class families. In our ethnographic data of first-generation college students, we identified tinkering knowledge from home and from work, perspective taking, mediational ability, and connecting experiences as knowledge sources brought to engineering. The purpose of this paper was to understand how first-generation college students’ accumulated bodies of knowledge (i.e., funds of knowledge) support their beliefs about performing well in engineering coursework, feeling a sense of belonging in the classroom, and certainty of graduating. This study aimed to explore the state of SRS use among faculty members in Saudi universities. Specifically, the study investigated factors that influence faculty members to accept or reject the use of SRS by utilizing the theoretical framework of UTAUT. Furthermore, the study examined faculty members’ experience dealing with SRS in teaching in relation to Gagne’s Nine Events of Instruction. The survey was administered to 306 faculty members affiliated with Saudi Arabian universities. Nonverbal Immediacy has been investigated extensively through the perception of students and rarely used as an instructional strategy or to enhance Appreciative Inquiry. Self-determination Theory informed this research with the constructs competence, relatedness, and autonomy inherent in Nonverbal Immediacy and Appreciative Inquiry. An adapted instrument collected data from Communication courses, twice during one semester. The Coronavirus interrupted research, so the second survey was modified for online. In lived experience, the two processes of secondary research and writing overlap and intertwine interminably, creating an overarching complex system as research becomes expressed in writing and writing generates new research. This classroom study explores the two processes as one—the research-writing process—through coding of student journal responses and assessment of student research papers. Analysis reveals students to be thoughtful but not yet as nuanced in their descriptions of their research process as much be desired. “It’S Hidden, After All:” A Modified Delphi Study Exploring Faculty And Students’ Perceptions Of A Graduate Professional Seminar In Communication, Krista Hoffmann-Longtin, Maria Brann, The Professional Seminar Delphi Working Group

Journal of Communication Pedagogy

Graduate student socialization has been studied in multiple disciplines, including communication. As their career trajectories change, faculty must consider how to socialize students into the field and their subsequent careers. Using a modified Delphi survey, we examined the differences in faculty and students’ perceptions regarding the content of a graduate professional seminar in communication. Results indicate that students would prefer a focus on implicit norms and the hidden curriculum, while faculty would prefer to focus on disciplinary content. We offer recommendations for developing a course that addresses both needs and, thus, simultaneously attends to the changing job market.
