Revision And Rewriting, Theory Of Knowledge, Grade 11-12, John D. Miles, Victoria Putnam, Candice Cliff

Arthur Vining Davis High Impact Fellows Projects

This project takes into consideration something that high school writers often overlook—revision and rewriting. We visited the classroom on three occasions to lead different kinds of revision workshops. Victoria led workshop one that focused on structure at the thesis and paragraph level. The second workshop was developed using some specific methods from Dr. Miles. We also took time to individually help students discuss structure on the larger scale and how to make that structure useful at the level of argumentation. The third visit was for individual and group conferences with students. Tori also took the role of mentor for two …

This article explores the various ways academic libraries have been integrating games into instruction and programming and provides advice and anecdotal evidence from programming experiences at the Seeley G. Educating For Virtue Across Multiple Cultural And Religious Contexts: On The Problem Of Commensurability, Mark Ortwein

Journal of Contemporary Research in Education

This aim of this paper is to explore the concept of intellectual and moral virtue across cultural, religious, and philosophical points of view—with special attention to the role of education in the formation of virtue. The central ambition of this paper is to determine if virtue is a concept that transcends cultural contexts and, should it do so, to what extent? It is shown that certain ubiquitous virtuous character traits are valued across cultural lines, and that similar understandings of virtue emerge in almost all cultural and religious contexts. Despite this, it also clear that virtue functions differently across cultural …

Guided Discovery Grammar Instruction: A Review Of The Literature With Original Teaching Materials, Marcella Caprario

MA TESOL Collection

Although grammar instruction is a hotly debated facet of language teaching, a review of Second Language Acquisition, Foreign Language Instruction, and Educational Psychology literature reveals that inductive explicit grammar instruction is a viable method, which can generate positive learning outcomes. Studies have shown that learners tend to learn grammar more accurately and faster through explicit instruction. By utilizing inductive techniques, teachers can create a student-centered classroom that encourages critical thinking and problem solving, in addition to language study. With these principles in mind, I have created a series of guided discovery grammar worksheets, accompanied by the procedure and teaching notes …

Effectiveness Of Peer-Facilitated Workshops On Student Performance In Introductory Financial Accounting, Katherine A. (Childs) Bigelow

Selected Honors Theses

There has been a need for reform in accounting education at universities so that students can better understand the accounting material and also perform better in the workplace. Prior research has been conducted on the effectiveness on student performance for methods that move away from the traditional classroom format. While these methods include laboratories, cooperative learning, and online learning modules, no research has been done to assess the effectiveness of peer-facilitated workshops on accounting students’ performance. This thesis assesses the effectiveness of peer-facilitated workshops that focus on the accounting equation on student performance in a Principles of Financial Accounting course. …
