BREATHE is an acronym for Breathe, Reflect, Empathize, Accept, Thank, Hearten, Engage. The addition of Understand allows for a holistic approach to living a healthy and balanced life both inside and outside the classroom. This paper took form as a result of my personal, spiritual journey, as well as my teaching practice. I noticed that the majority of my students enjoyed experiential activities that included time and space for self-reflection, relaxation and meditation. I began looking for books, seminars, and workshops that explored these areas. Deepak Chopra, Jonathan Kabat-Zinn, Dan Siegel, Eckhart Tolle, et al. offer insights into the benefits …

The merits of both intensive and extensive reading approaches were examined and used to develop the methodology for the ER program. Additionally, implementation parameters, as agreed upon by the EAP program director and academic coordinator, were used to determine the design and implementation of the ER program that was piloted on a low-intermediate level reading class. A method of anonymous student feedback, via questionnaires and reading logs, were developed and applied …

It hinges on the relationships and connections between the Schools, student, industry and institutions. It relates to the quality of the engagement with academic, administrative and support staff as well as their interaction with and for students and potential employers. At the institutes core should be the quality, breadth and appropriateness of internship that the student and industry experience.

An increasing number of schools and districts are building a common language of instruction and collaborative structures for instructional problem solving through the use of instructional rounds. Pioneered by Richard Elmore and colleagues at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, instructional rounds build on the model of medical rounds used in teaching hospitals and engage teachers and administrators in data collection and analysis around a school-wide problem of practice. This case study examines the experiences of the Simpson County Schools in Franklin, Kentucky, where one of the authors formerly served as a district administrator. In 2009, the district initiated a …

Blended Learning For Gifted And Talented Students, Chris John Hergenrader
All Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Blended learning is a curriculum presentation method that includes both online and face-to-face aspects. Educators who use blended learning tout it for its ability to allow for effective differentiation of instruction while bringing increased use of technology into the classroom. It is seen as an improvement to online learning in that blended learning maintains the traditional classroom teacher to guide and develop the class while incorporating the online component. Gifted and talented students are often the forgotten population within schools as they are typically viewed to be successful in classes despite the fact they may not be reaching their full …

Educators who serve students in online classrooms display a unique set of skills necessary to engage students, however little research and no teacher evaluation tools exist to guide K-12 online teachers in the evidence-based practices needed to perfect their craft. The research that does exist focuses on the post-secondary classroom which is assumed to be significantly different from K-12 environments. Using a Delphi study, an expert group of MN K-12 online educators confirmed that the research from the college level related to teacher immediacy and interaction, the teacher behaviors that most impact student engagement, are applicable to the K-12 online …

It also set out to review the reports of the signatories of PRME (Principals for Responsible Management Education) to develop an understanding of the range of options available to the College of Business to embed principles for responsible management …

Academic Honesty And The New Technological Frontier, Jennifer Deranek, Ceceilia Parnther
The Hilltop Review
As technological advances increase in higher education, there are increased opportunities to prevent cheating and promote academic integrity. Up to 90% of undergraduate and graduate students have reported cheating, and many students believe that academic dishonesty has become second nature (Stuber-McEwen, Wiseley & Hoggatt, 2009). An intentional effort to promote learning and growth for students and the institution is important for reputation, workplace honesty, and academic freedom. This paper identifies changes in the technological landscape of academic honor.

This culminated in poster symposium of the experience. Broad competency areas for high impact practices in natural resource management were emphasized for learning. Students were engaged in the exercise and commented that the project helped them develop a sense of place and forming …
