Last June, the day before the Philadelphia Eagles franchise was scheduled to celebrate its Super Bowl victory at the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump revoked the invitation.

The majority of the players had made clear that they would skip the event. Instead of attending the presidential spectacle, they planned to celebrate elsewhere in Washington, D.C., including by touring the nearby National Museum of African American History and Culture (Nakamura & Lowery, 2018). Despite the growing number of patients worldwide with metabolism-related chronic diseases, medical biochemistry education is commonly perceived as focusing on recall of facts irrelevant for patient care. The authors suggest that this focus on rote memorization of pathways creates excessive cognitive load that may interfere with learners’ development of an integrated understanding of metabolic regulation and dysregulation. This cognitive load can be minimized by providing appropriate references during learning and assessment. Biochemistry educators collaborated to develop a medically relevant Pathways of Human Metabolism map (MetMap) that is now being used at many medical schools as a nationally standardized resource during …

The purpose of this research study is to explore schoolteachers’ perceptions and experiences regarding the implementation of mindfulness practices with school-aged elementary students. The concept of mindfulness involves three interrelated mental skills and dispositions: (a) concentrating attention intentionally on the here and now; (b) perceiving the present moment in a calm, clear, and receptive manner; and (c) experiencing each moment just as it is without bias or judgment (Kostanski & Hassed, 2008). In most wireless channels, the signals propagate in all directions. For the communication between Alice and Bob, an Eavesdropper can receive the signals from both Alice and Bob as far as the Eavesdropper is in the range determined by the transmitting power. Through phased array antenna with beam tracking circuits or cooperative iteration, the signals are confined near the straight line connecting the positions of Alice and Bob, so it will largely reduce the valid placement of an Eavesdropper. According to the Verizon’s Data Breach Investigations Report, Local Area Network (LAN) access is the top vector for insider threats and misuses. It is critical for students to learn these vulnerabilities, understand the mechanisms of exploits, and know the countermeasures. The department of Computer Science at North Carolina A&T State University designed two different educational tools that help students learn ARP Spoofing Attacks, which is the most popular attack on LAN. FSU’s Center for Undergraduate Research and Academic Engagement is charged with engaging undergraduates in research and other academic High Impact Practices. This expanded focus allows the integration of research experience within HIPs, especially global engagement, service learning, and innovation/entrepreneurship. While the CRE continues to bolster its community-engaged research efforts, this presentation details our current relationships with campus partners (Center for Leadership and Social Change), the Tallahassee and Florida non-profit and start-up community (UROP), and the global community (Gap Year Fellows/IDEA Grants). The audience will develop ideas for collaborating with partners engaged within communities to support research opportunities for undergraduates.

The Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) at FSU allows students to engage in research projects that professors, graduate students, and community leaders facilitate. This poster outlines FSU’s Research Mentor Roundtables, an event where UROP students have the opportunity to meet a variety of research mentors in a casual setting to learn about their research and ask questions. Through this event, student researchers gain the confidence needed to approach research mentors with the intent of creating a new working relationship. This event can be scaled up for a wider audience across campus and help students get into research groups on campus.

The authors of this article explore democratic practices in the classroom by using student-selected literature. After multiple class sets of student-selected young adult novels were purchased using grant money, the authors set out to see what happens in a classroom when student choice is at the forefront of pedagogical decision-making and how students resonated with and voiced their experiences reading about those chosen novels. Because canonical texts are often used to help students understand allusions in contemporary texts, one adolescent novel and one canonical novel became the focal points for this project. The Impact Of Student Political Identity Over The Course Of An Online Controversial Issue Discussion, Christopher H. Clark

As civic educators become increasingly concerned about polarized political environments, researchers have begun explore the ramifications of contentious political discourse on young people. Through a quantitative analysis of data gathered from two rural, Midwestern schools, this study provides evidence that the degree to which a student socially identifies with a political party is influential over the course of an online discussion. Strength of identification was associated with students’ relative amount of knowledge for and against their position on a controversial issue and with the types of contributions students made to the online forum.

Instruction in science can be difficult for students with visual impairments due to the use of visual instruction that is often used for conceptual understanding. Pedagogical approaches to teaching science continue to evolve, with inquiry-based science instruction as a primary instructional method used in current classrooms.

The purpose of this study was to identify the reality of educational media throughout the Emirate of Abu Dhabi secondary schools in the United Arab Emirates from the perspectives of students. To attain the study purpose, the researchers prepared a questionnaire consisted of 63 statements in its final format as an instrument for data collection.
