This lesson explores religious persecution in East Germany. Students must decide plausible actions to take against the Protestant Church to diminish power. Acting as a member of The East German Secret Police, students, evaluate, rank, and justify decisions to minimalize Christianity in an atheist society.

Students experience a reenactment of life on the frontier created by the interaction of their teachers and community volunteers. Students in elementary social studies learn content, skills, values, and dispositions through engaging in experiential learning. The classroom environment is described through a case study of one classroom of fourth grade students with an experienced teacher with deep roots in the community. Teachers develop skills in negotiation with volunteers to accomplish tasks that support student learning. The United States has always been conflicted about its role in international affairs. There are many historical examples where these divergent beliefs can be examined. One ideal topic students can research to analyze Americans’ conflicting beliefs about the country’s role in international affairs is the Bricker Amendment. In this article, I explore how activities about the Bricker Amendment allow high school students to examine different perspectives about the U.S. role in international affairs. The steps and resources needed to implement the activity in my article are provided.

Social studies teachers are presented with the challenging yet rewarding task of cultivating in their students' principles and competencies essential for democratic and social-justice-oriented citizenship. Inspired and guided by literature on social justice education and community service-learning, this study suggests that social studies teachers ought to consider integrating teaching methods that are experiential, participatory, and critical in nature. An example of such a method is community service-learning. As illustrated in this study, community service-learning activities afford students the unique opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills on social justice in authentic social situations.

Abstract: This article explores the use of art to trigger memory as an effective educational tool for discussion. The author is a regular guest speaker at an affluent retirement community. The attendees are highly educated and accomplished professionals with expansive and worldly lived experiences. Formally facilitating lifelong learning, however, is a special vocation and requires a secular shared praxis and other andragogical strategies. Problem-based learning (PBL) has been deployed as a student-centered instructional approach and curriculum design in a wide range of academic fields across the world. The majority of educational research to date has focused on knowledge-based outcomes addressing why PBL is useful. Researchers of PBL are developing a growing interest in qualitative research with a process-driven orientation to examining learning interactions. It is essential to broaden this research base so as to support PBL designs and approaches to leading students into higher-order thinking and a deeper approach to learning.

This qualitative study highlighted the perceptions of high school principals on the utilization of block scheduling in Arkansas public high schools. While block scheduling is not the prevalent model of scheduling in the state, many schools continue to experience success using this schedule. By interviewing principals, this study uncovered the factors needed in order to make utilizing this schedule effective. This study examines both the benefits and disadvantages of block scheduling and adds to the existing body of knowledge concerning block schedules. This study examined the effect of hands-on experiences on student achievement, interest, and attitude in chemistry. The researcher gathered data from 82 students enrolled in an East Texas high school chemistry course for the 2019-2020 school year. Historical data from five-unit tests were used to assess differences in mean achievement scores between test items aligned with hands-on laboratory experiences and test items aligned with computer-simulated experiences. An independent t-test and a paired t-test were used to statistically evaluate the data. The independent t-test showed no statistically significant difference. Parents’ Perceptions Of Children’S Remote Learning During The Covid 19 Outbreak: A Case Study In Bekasi, Indonesia, Tryanti R. Abdulrahman

Considering parents as important key in children’s education during the Covid 19 outbreak, it is necessary to explore their perceptions regarding their involvement in children’s remote learning. Data were gathered from forty parents of elementary students in Bekasi, Indonesia voluntarily filled out the survey. Ten participated in semi-structured interviews via one-on-one phone calls. Findings reveal four emerging themes; 1) ways of involvement 2) benefits of home learning, 3) challenges 4) expectations and recommendations. This study suggests that parent involvement must be taken into account as they become parent-educators and collaborators to improve the quality of education. Further research needs to …
