One way of understanding motivation is through the factors that influence it. These factors analyzed as psychological constructs give rise to the notion of motivation variables such as interest. Interest is a powerful variable that affects student motivation to learn (Hidi & Renninger, 2006; Hulleman et al., 2017; O’Keefe et al. 2017; Renninger & Hidi, 2016; Tin, 2013). In 2006, Hidi and Renninger proposed the “Four-Phase Interest Development Model” for the characterization of interest in learning. Climate-appropriate agroforestry can provide low-input food security and ecosystem services for local Californian Mediterranean climates, while conserving natural resources (e.g., water, nitrogen, etc.). This project showcases a variety of agroforestry methods for five common plant communities of California and other analogous Mediterranean climates at the CAFES Experimental Farm on the campus of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Plant community species and their ethnobotanical uses were analyzed to mimic and incorporate aspects of native flora. Methods: Using a design science method this paper develops a course design for teaching procurement that enriches existing approaches to company engagement in courses. The purpose of this study is to determine the student perceptions on teaching methods for first year dental students using zoom to teach didactics and preclinical hand skills. Because of COVID- 19 other means of teaching had to be implemented and classes were held remotely. Our aim is to determine student perceptions on retention, understanding and learning of didactic and preclinical hands on lectures. Students felt that didactic lectures through zoom increased their retention and understanding in learning the material. They felt that pre-clinical hands on lectures through zoom decreased their retention and understanding in learning.

Introduction: Nuclear security education covers essential topics related to the security of nuclear materials. In order to provide effective training, educators are faced with the challenge of improving the trainees’ ability to retain and utilize knowledge. This project investigated whether academic research is beneficial for educators seeking to enhance nuclear security education.

Methods: A survey using Google Forms was sent to nuclear security educators in academic and research institutes. The survey included questions on their experience with different aspects of nuclear security education, how research may influence nuclear security education, and how to increase knowledge retention.

In two experiments (N = 200), we compared the effects of longhand note-taking, photographing lecture materials with a smartphone camera, and not taking any notes on video-recorded lecture learning. Experiment 1 revealed a longhand-superiority effect: Longhand note-takers outperformed photo-takers and control learners on a recall test, notwithstanding an equal opportunity to review their learning material right before being tested, and even when photo-takers and control participants reviewed an exact transcript of the lecture slides via their photos or printouts, whereas longhand note-takers accessed only a fraction of the content as captured in their handwritten notes. Engineering technology students often forgo a methodical approach of solving or answering questions on assignments or exams in favor of an intuition-based approach, emphasizing educated guessing (Broberg et al., 2008). In higher education, assessment feedback has been found to lack the ability to impact student learning. Therefore, recent feedback literature has stressed a change in practice to address this issue. This review examines the extent to which innovative assessment feedback practices succeed in engaging undergraduate students to use the feedback they receive.
