A Study Of The Religious Orientation Of Public School Districts Located In The Bible Belt Of The United States, Tom A. Bennett
Student Theses and Dissertations
The struggle to accommodate one person's right of religious expression while not infringing upon another person's right to be free from religious coercion has existed since our Founding Fathers first drafted the Bill of Rights more than 200 years ago. The genesis of the controversy lies in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, which provides in pertinent part that, &ldquo Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.&rdquo Despite the language of the Religious Liberty clauses and of the subsequent decisions interpreting them by the U.S. Supreme Court, the arena …

The Growth Of Single-Sex Schools: Federal Policy Meets Local Needs And Interests, Katherine Cumings Mansfield
Educational Leadership Publications
Changes to Title IX allowing the growth of single-sex schools have garnered media attention promoting the benefits of separating boys and girls. Alternately, civil rights groups such as the ACLU continue to oppose any type of school segregation. Within this context, a private philanthropy, the Foundation for the Education of Young Women (FEYW) has established public-private partnerships with six Texas school districts to open all-girls’ public college prep magnet schools with plans to expand. This multi-year ethno-historical case study explores the meaning making of one community in the FEYW network as it attempts to make sense of federal policy at …

Growth: The Journal of the Association for Christians in Student Development
Private institutions in the United States of America are being forced to confront an increasing number of undocumented persons who seek employment, education, healthcare, and personal development. In this case study we considered the options which Christian colleges must weigh when interested in allowing undocumented students to serve in (traditionally) paid leadership roles on campus. Through research, interviews with student development professionals, and conversations with formerly undocumented students, this study provides a unique solution for Christian colleges to consider when faced with the consideration of undocumented students in leadership roles. The scope of our research is focused in three primary …

Andragogy Around The World In K-20 Education: It Is All About Trust, John Henschke
Adult Education Faculty Works
The author's research in andragogy started in the late 1960s. More serious in-depth attempts were launched in 1997, just after Malcolm S. Knowles died - the author wanted to honor his legacy since he and his work in andragogy were influential in the author's life. The author's research yielded an instrument with the strongest factor being 'teacher trust of learners' - a belief that applies all the way through k-20 Education. This is found to be so in doctoral dissertations, overarching trust behaviors, and threaded through the literature surrounding trust. Trust is found to be congruent between the author's scholarship …
