Open Research: From Thought To Deed, Aisling Coyne, Yvonne Desmond, John Donovan

Other

Openness as a concept in scholarly communication is gaining increased traction with more and more universities and research institutes adopting the concept. But is it just a concept or even worst an aspiration? Open is difficult both politically and in practical terms and how many institutions actually move into the action and implementation phase? TU Dublin has achieved considerable success with open access to publications using the institutional repository Arrow@TUDublin. However, now we want to move into the implementation phase and become an open research university. Simultaneously we are involved with a project for the European University of Technology to …

Leadership Approaches To Teacher Collaboration During Periods Of Crisis, Kristine Scallon

Doctorate in Education

Teacher collaboration is a complex and dynamic phenomenon that educational scholars have examined for four decades. This study argues for the expansion of leadership approaches that foster and sustain teacher collaboration, specifically during periods of crisis. Drawing on mixed-methods data collected in a Midwest public school district amidst the disconcerting ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic, which had been impacting educational systems for just over two years, this dissertation also considers concurrent systemic crises, including racial and gender inequalities, civil unrest, political elections, ideological divides, economic instability, natural disasters, and gun violence.

The conceptual framework that guided this study reflected leadership …

A Closer Look At The Influence Of Transformational Leadership On Teachers' Creative Work Behavior And Organizational Innovation. Understanding The Relationship Between Teacher Leadership And Student Achievement., Sarper Turker

Theses and Dissertations

The educational literature has a long history of studies focusing on relationships among a variety of variables such as leadership practices, teachers’ behaviors, and students’ educational outcomes. The behavior of leaders has been identified as a characteristic that directly influences an employee’s creative behaviors and organizational innovation. Fostering creativity in education is intended to address many concerns, such as dealing with ambiguous problems, coping with the fast-changing world, and facing an uncertain future (Parkhurst, 1999). Although creativity is essential in education, teachers have not received adequate support from school principals to enhance creativity. Transformational leadership is one of the most …

Leadership Education Capstones

The United States entered a state of lockdown in March 2020 in order slow the spread of the COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus. With this lockdown came mandatory social isolation, which was especially impactful for older, underrepresented and vulnerable Americans. This study identified these interventions through research and survey, and their relationship to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs (Maslow, 1943). This study also brought to light collaborative relationships between agencies, the redeployment of library staff and resources to meet these needs, the impact of the …

Implications Of The Improvement Science Process On Swpbis Implementation At A Title I High School, Cody Rich

Dissertations

Disparities in discipline are well documented throughout our nation as the gap continues to increase (Losen et al., 2015; Losen & Skiba, 2016; Raush & Skiba, 2004; The Civil Rights Data Collection, 2014). Though Black students comprise only 16% of the student population in the United States, they account for nearly half of school suspensions and expulsions (The Civil Rights Data Collection, 2014). In the context of RHS (location of this dissertation in practice), Black students encompass nearly 20% of the student population while accounting for approximately 30% of the total number of referrals. More alarming is that administration suspended …

The main assumption of the study is that parental satisfaction with school choice is related to parental involvement with children’s education and their views of school-home communication. The study is guided by Bourdieu’s theory of capital to interpret parental involvement efforts and their assessment of school-home communication as ways to acquire social capital for themselves and their children. Epstein’s framework of parental involvement allows for operationalizing the concept with respect to school and out-of-school …
