Assessing The Academic Impact Of Two Adaptive Learning Technology Math Programs Using Hattie’S Visible Learning Theory, Charles C. Swan

All Theses And Dissertations

This quantitative study examined the academic impact of two adaptive learning technology math programs (Espark and iXL) alongside the social validity of teachers in a rural western Maine school district who used the program in their classrooms. Using Hattie’s Visible Learning Theory (2008) as the theoretical framework, the study tested two different hypotheses. The first hypothesis stated that both Espark and iXL would have an effect size of .40 or greater when the pre and post tests were compared. The study used the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) assessment for its pre and post assessment because it is a nationally normed …

Strategies Ambulatory Practice Leaders Use In Optimizing Electronic Medical Record Systems, Jeffrey L. Brown 2022 University of New England

Strategies Ambulatory Practice Leaders Use In Optimizing Electronic Medical Record Systems, Jeffrey L. Brown

All Theses And Dissertations

Electronic medical record systems (EMRs) were quickly adopted by ambulatory care practices due to federal government programs encouraging their rapid adoption and implementation. The accelerated implementation and adoption of these digital care systems introduced new forms of administrative burdens that have become negatively associated with the practice of medicine. Research regarding the challenges related to implementing and adopting EMR systems has been abundant. However, there is little research on EMR optimization strategies within ambulatory practice settings. This qualitative phenomenological study explored the lived experiences of ambulatory practice leaders and the strategies they used to optimize EMR systems. The data collected …

Through statistical analysis, data proved that knowing a native speaker of the target language is a significant predictor of language learners having a higher perception of proficiency. An Exploration Of Communities Of Practice In The Stem Teacher Context: What Predicts Ties Of Retention?, Brandon Ofem, Michael Beeth, Jessica Doering, Kathleen Fink, Rebecca Konz, Margaret J. Mohr-Schroeder, Samuel J. Polizzi, Gillian Roehrig, Gregory T. Rushton, Keith Sheppard

Journal of STEM Teacher Education

The STEM teacher workforce in the United States has faced a host of pressing challenges, including teacher shortages, pervasive job dissatisfaction, and high turnover, problems largely attributable to working conditions within schools and districts. These problems have been exacerbated in high-needs districts with fewer resources and more students from low-income communities. Since social network research has shown that workplace relationships are vital for retention, this study investigates the demographic and relational antecedents to what we dub ties of retention. We explore how demographic and relational properties affect the likelihood that teachers have “retention-friendly” networks, characterized by connections important for …

Exploring The Experiences And Perceptions Of 21st Century Leadership Academy Participants, Scott R. Bartholomew, Douglas Lecorchick, Mark Mahoney, Geoffrey Albert Wright

Journal of STEM Teacher Education

The 21st Century Leadership Academy grew out of an effort by the Council of Technology Teacher Education’s (CTTE) Leadership Development Committee to prepare future leaders for the field of Technology & Engineering Education (TEE). Efforts by Drs. Roger Hill (University of Georgia) and Bill Havice (Clemson University) led to the creation, and subsequent implementation, of this leadership academy with support from CTTE (later renamed the Council on Technology & Engineering Teacher Education [CTETE]) and the International Technology & Engineering Education Association (ITEEA). Initially, participation in the leadership academy was focused on early-career university faculty but recruitment was later expanded to …

Whose Poverty Is It? An Autoethnography, Corinne Brion

Educational Leadership Faculty Publications

When I first met my husband, he told me, “I have nothing material, I do not have money or many possessions.” When he meant he had nothing, he literally meant it, no savings, no house, no bank account, no retirement plans, and a job that hardly paid for one meal a day. His most precious possessions were a bicycle and the toolbox he used as a mechanic. He lived with his mom, sister and two nieces in a one-bedroom self-contained unit they rented. There was no bathroom, no toilet, no kitchen, no personal space, no decoration, and no furniture. It …

Pedagogical Leadership During Crisis: The Shift To Distance Learning In An Israeli Religious College During Covid-19, Shmuel Shenhav

Journal of Practitioner Research

I knew that serving as an administrator-leader is challenging under any circumstance. However, grappling with an almost unforeseen crisis tested my endurance and commitment to new levels. I am honored to serve as a college administrator overseeing four different master's degree programs at Michlala Jerusalem College. I soon realized that there was a need for a new kind of pedagogical leadership as the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic emerged. The need for college administrators and instructors to remain "agile" to adapt to the challenges of moving instruction online was apparent. So I utilized practitioner inquiry as my approach to …

Fresh Beginnings: Promoting A Culture Of Teacher Inquiry Through Passion In The Profession, Jonathan Hart, Divonna Stebick 2022 Readington Township Public School District

Fresh Beginnings: Promoting A Culture Of Teacher Inquiry Through Passion In The Profession, Jonathan Hart, Divonna Stebick

Journal of Practitioner Research

Teachers are required to participate in professional development and seek meaningful opportunities to truly grow in the profession. Teacher inquiry, or teacher research, is one way to accomplish professional development goals. Teacher inquiry is thought of as individualized, personalized, and meaningful professional development (Cochran-Smith & Lytle, 1999). Teacher inquiry must go beyond a teacher wondering (Dana & Yendol-Hoppey, 2020) where teachers develop a project from their own practice, collect data, and draw conclusions to continue their professional development. In this study a cohort of certificated professionals engaged in a year-long project that included asking research questions and developing an independent …
