Forbes Magazine's 2018 publication of "the World's Most Valuable Brands" illustrates a dramatic statistic: of their 100 top ranked brands, each had an estimated brand value of over $7B! Yeats’S Legacy And Literary Tourism: A Study Of The Yeats Winter School In Sligo, Mary Mcguckin

Irish Business Journal

Literary tourism is of increasing importance within the field of cultural and heritage tourism yet remains under-represented in academic literature. Smith, et al. (2010, p. 108) define it as a “tourism activity motivated by interest in an author, a literary creation or setting, or the literary heritage of a destination”. The typical profile of a literary tourist is that of a well- educated holidaymaker who is seeking an authentic experience, may have heard about the place’s linkage with a writer but may not have high levels of knowledge about the actual work of the writer. The socio-economic characteristics of literary …

Do Perceptions Of Businesses Differ Between Higher And Lower Counts Of Social Media Post Engagements?, Tally Shaw, Melinda A. Mclelland

AMTP Proceedings 2019

Social media is a popular marketing tool that directly connects businesses and consumers. This is a relatively new phenomenon, which requires more understanding on the part of marketers. Understanding how consumers respond to social media posts made by the business is vitally important to the continued success of businesses utilizing social media as part of their marketing efforts. Using social metrics such as “likes” and “shares”, businesses can both measure and influence consumer attitudes and behaviors. This study features an experiment that manipulates the effects of high versus low counts of Facebook likes/shares on Facebook timeline posts. This research extends …

Reverse And Questionable Responses Using The Kano Method In International Surveys, Michael Latta 2019 Coastal Carolina University

Reverse And Questionable Responses Using The Kano Method In International Surveys, Michael Latta

AMTP Proceedings 2019

New product development has become an international exercise. One method of designing products is the Kano Method. Although not as popular as discrete choice or conjoint, the Kano Method is being used internationally to design products and services. The question process is not as straight forward as discrete choice or conjoint, and that raises questions of utility of the Kano Method when used internationally. This study shows results vary across countries dramatically.

An Investigation Into How The Modes Of Persuasion And Valence Affect Perceptions Of Online Reviews, Clinton Amos, Skyler King, Anthony Allred

AMTP Proceedings 2019

Consumers ubiquitously rely on assessments provided by strangers when seeking knowledge or making consumption decisions. Whether buying a car or a toaster, or choosing a restaurant, most consumers would feel lost if they attempted to make these decisions without first seeking verification via an online review. Despite the importance of online reviews in consumers’ daily lives, research on the effectiveness of online reviews is still in elementary stages and questions remain regarding how online review content style affects consumer judgments. Correspondingly, little is known about how message construction (e.g., rhetorical strategies) affects consumer judgments. Using an experimental design, this paper …

Earnings Response Coefficient As A Determinant Of Dividend Policy: Testing Free Cash Flow Theory On Non-Financial Dividend Paying Firms In The Pakistan Stock Exchange, Hamid Ullah, Anjum Ihsan 2019 Islamia College, Peshawar, Pakistan

Earnings Response Coefficient As A Determinant Of Dividend Policy: Testing Free Cash Flow Theory On Non-Financial Dividend Paying Firms In The Pakistan Stock Exchange, Hamid Ullah, Anjum Ihsan

Business Review

This study tests Jensen’s free cash flow theory which states that managers overinvest retained earnings in negative NPV projects. A data set of 238 firms listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange for the period 1999 to 2016 is used. The results of the panel regression model show a significant positive association of the earnings response coefficient and dividend payout ratio, which supports the free cash flow theory in listed Pakistani firms. Moreover, the imposition of the capital gains tax and the financial crisis has further strengthened the positive relationship between ERC and dividend payout ratio.

Higher Education, Robert Ping 2019 Wright State University

Higher Education, Robert Ping

Marketing Faculty Publications

Research on Higher Education, including promotion and tenure, and the possibility of reusing one's data for a second paper to help reduce the "time between papers." (Perhaps surprisingly, some editors do not object to reusing data, as long as new theory is being tested.) This Higher Education web page has been substantially revised and updated in its "The Jr. Faculty Corner" section. For example, the suggestions there for Revising and Resubmitting a paper and sample "Responses to the Reviewers" have been heavily edited for clarity and, utility.

Latent Variable Interactions And Quadratics, Robert Ping 2019 Wright State University

Latent Variable Interactions And Quadratics, Robert Ping

Marketing Faculty Publications

Research on interactions (XZ) and quadratics (XX) in theoretical model (hypothesis) tests using structural equation analysis (LISREL, EQS, AMOS, SIMPLIS, etc.) and real-world data. Topics include XZ and XX reliability and validity. In theory tests these are important because low reliability/validity in XZ or XX may mean that a significant interaction or quadratic will be NS or of opposite sign in its next model test. Other topics include estimating categorical (nominal) variables, and improving measures that are in serious trouble--ones with low Average Variance Extracted (AVE), or unacceptable model-to-data fit (i.e., only a 3-indicator specification fits the data, etc.)

Are They Even Following Us?: Using Market Research Data To Understand Students’ Social Media Preferences, Mark Aaron Polger, Dan Sich

Publications and Research

The purpose of this paper is the exploration of students’ preferred social media (SM) tools for receiving information about their academic library. The authors administered a questionnaire at their prospective institutions: the College of Staten Island (CSI), City University of New York, USA and the University of Western Ontario (UWO) in London, Ontario, Canada. The authors examine students’ preferences for various SM tools, and analyzed the types of information students expect from the library’s SM accounts. The authors argue that the library’s SM postings should be curated based on market research that provides a better understanding of the target audience.
