Motives For Consumer Behavioral Engagement On Brand-Related Social Media Content : A Study Based On Organismic Integration Theory And Personality, Chi T.K Nguyen, Jusik Park
Asia Marketing Journal
This study adopts organismic integration theory (OIT) to classify and contrast the predominant roles of five motivations (i.e., economic incentives, self-presentation, information acquisition, altruism, and enjoyment) in fostering three levels of behavioral engagement on brand-related social media content. This study further examines the moderating effect of personality (thinkers vs. feelers) on these relationships. The results of PLS-SEM reveal the greater impact of autonomous motivations on content consumption (enjoyment and information acquisition) and content contribution and creation (altruism and information acquisition), compared with controlled motivations (self-presentation and economic incentives). This study also finds that thinkers mostly engage on brand-related content for …

What Can We Learn From A Co-Creation Journey For A Quick Scan Digital Transformation Maturity Assessment Tool For Development Ngos?, Anand Sheombar
Journal of International Technology and Information Management
This paper describes the approach and lessons learned from a co-creation process with Dutch development NGOs to create a practical and easy-to-use assessment tool for practitioners to assess the organisation's maturity level of digital transformation. For this study, we applied a design science research methodology, specifically a six-step co-creation approach suitable for developing maturity models. The digital maturity assessment tool (quick scan) created is a domain- specific digital transformation maturity tool for development NGOs rather than a generally applicable tool. This artefact was evaluated using an eight-point Requirements framework for the development of digital maturity assessment tools. By developing a …

Perusing web data items such as shopping products is a core online user activity. To prevent information overload, the content associated with data items is typically dispersed across multiple webpage sections over multiple web pages. However, such content distribution manifests an unintended side effect of significantly increasing the interaction burden for blind users, since navigating to-and-fro between different sections in different pages is tedious and cumbersome with their screen readers. While existing works have proposed methods for the context of a single webpage, solutions enabling usable access to content distributed across multiple webpages are few and far between. In this …

Security is an important ingredient in financial transactions; as such, it is imperative that attention should be paid to enhancing the security habits and user behaviours of mobile payment services. Establishing a link between security habits, personality characteristics, and security behaviours provides a new dimension to studying security behaviours regarding mobile money services. Therefore, this study investigates how personality traits affect security behaviours and habits and how security habits mediate the link between personality traits and PIN security practices. The study found that conscientiousness, openness to experience, extroversion and security habits influence PIN security practices, while conscientiousness, agreeableness, and neuroticism …

This study investigates the adoption and effectiveness of coopetition strategies by retail SMEs in countering the perception that large e-commerce platforms threaten their survival. Using a qualitative research methodology and expert interviews, the findings reveal that retail SMEs predominantly adopt horizontal coopetition, such as sharing infrastructure, security services, and group buying. Few engage in platform-based coopetition with large e-commerce platforms. Organisational capability is a key factor influencing the adoption of these strategies, which prove effective in addressing the perceived threat. The study recommends that retail SMEs enhance their organisational capabilities and suggests large e-commerce platforms localise their approaches to better …

This study examines the effect of negative publicity regarding employee turnover on customer loyalty, focusing on Amazon. Using in-depth interviews and surveys, the research highlights how social media platforms, particularly Facebook, and digital communication have facilitated the spread of negative information about Amazon's high employee turnover. While findings suggest that persistent negative media coverage could erode customer confidence over time, no statistical correlation between high turnover, negative publicity, and customer loyalty was established due to an insufficient sample size. The study recommends robust public relations strategies to protect corporate reputation and contributes to the understanding of how internal organisational issues …

Examining The Antecedents Of Return Policy Leniency In Ecommerce, E. Mitchell Church, Richelle Oakley Dasouza, Olajumoke A. Awe

As eCommerce has become widespread, the challenge of successfully navigating the returns process has grown perilous. The product returns issue is even more difficult for microenterprises that sell unique or custom products with fewer resources. The authors examined the impact of the antecedents of return policy leniency, specifically economic and social success factors. Using a web crawler over a 24-week period, the authors collected and analyzed data for a sample of 781 shops from Etsy, an eCommerce platform. Results indicate that the well-studied factor of sales, in addition to a new social factor – community dialogue – impacts an Etsy …

Applying the flow theory, this study examined how copresence improved the subjective well-being of users through flow and escapism. An online self-administered survey of 249 US adults who are currently using metaverse platforms is conducted. The collected data are analyzed by SPSS, AMOS and PROCESS. Findings suggest that the feeling of being together with other users in a metaverse can influence consumers’ satisfaction with their lives. Copresence in the metaverse specifically enhanced flow, which is being immersed in the experience; and escapism, which is avoiding unpleasant realities. Copresence and flow were found to improve the subjective well-being of metaverse users. …

Influencers Endorsement Advertising Methods On Different Social Media Platforms, Sophia R. Annaloro
Honors Undergraduate Theses
Social media marketing has opened a unique spot for Social Media Influencers. With their fame comes a lot of power over their follower's actions. Many things are at play when an influencer works with a brand to create promotional content for a product. Flow theory suggests that an abrupt advertisement does not match the pace or aesthetic of the content they are currently consuming. When one's viewing is abruptly interrupted by an advertisement, the consumers are now aggravated by the product. Distinctive characteristics of different platforms are likely to develop flow differently. This study analyzed how passive versus active product …

The Impact Of Social Media On Charitable Giving For Nonprofit Organization, Namchul Shin
Journal of International Technology and Information Management
Research has extensively studied nonprofit organizations’ use of social media for communications and interactions with supporters. However, there has been limited research examining the impact of social media on charitable giving. This research attempts to address the gap by empirically examining the relationship between the use of social media and charitable giving for nonprofit organizations. We employ a data set of the Nonprofit Times’ top 100 nonprofits ranked by total revenue for the empirical analysis. As measures for social media traction, i.e., how extensively nonprofits draw supporters on their social media sites, we use Facebook Likes, Twitter Followers, and Instagram …

Explaining Variation In Adoption Of Organizational Innovation: A Social Network Approach, Pooria Assadi
Journal of International Technology and Information Management
This article draws from the social network theory and examines how a social network approach can contribute to our understanding of the variation in the adoption of innovative, organization-wide information systems that can help businesses achieve sustainable competitive advantage. It highlights how the extant explanations for the adoption of information systems are limited in the way that they primarily assume organizations make innovation adoption decisions in isolation. It does so by building on growing research which recognizes that organizations are not isolated from one another; rather, they are interrelated through their inter-organizational networks which provide unique learning opportunities that are …

Trust is an important component of any purchasing situation. In an online setting, trust becomes even more important as buyer and seller are not able to directly interact with one another. Compounding the situation is the fact that the consumer cannot directly experience the product under consideration. Organizations have attempted to address this shortcoming by allowing third parties to offer reviews of the product in question. This paper addresses how consumers process these product reviews.
By rooting this paper in trust and uncertainty reduction theory, a testable model was developed. The model was tested, and in general, more helpful reviews, …
