Adapting North American Selling Methods To Cross-Cultural Technology Sales Engagements In The Borderless Global Economy, Zachary Paul Mckinley

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Successful selling relies heavily upon effective communication, mutual understanding, and other complex interpersonal dynamics. Accordingly, the highly unique qualities distinguishing North American culture from other global regions can create unique challenges for North American salespeople attempting to sell to non-US buyers from different cultural backgrounds, especially when competing against non-US salespeople. This study examined these challenges through a phenomenological framework to identify pattern cultural interactions and their consequences upon selling outcomes from the described cross-cultural sales experiences of twelve highly tenured North American technology salespeople who participated in this study. Local Food In Caribbean Small Island Developing States (Sids) Destination Marketing – The Case Of Trinidad & Tobago, Winston Mohammed

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Trinidad & Tobago is a Caribbean and Small Island Destination State (SIDS) tourism anomaly because it is neither a mass leisure nor a traditional (3S) sun, sea, and sand tourist destination. There is growing scholarly attention on food-related destination marketing in the most successful and attractive tourist destinations globally. Despite the influence of food on a destination's competitiveness and attractiveness, policymakers and tourism organizations of the Caribbean and Trinidad & Tobago have at best underutilized and even ignored the potential of local food because they poorly understand its capacity and capability. Traditional destination marketing treats food merely as a complementary …

Leadership Strategies And Behaviors That Support Career Advancement For Teleworkers, Glory Ann Sanders

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Research in telework has primarily focused on the study of teleworkers or on the comparison between teleworkers and non-teleworkers. For this reason, leader behaviors in the telework context has been a relatively neglected area of study. This study emphasizes the lack of career advancement within the telework arena that has contributed to higher turnover intentions and a reluctancy to participate in telework programs. This research specifically explores leader behaviors and strategies that support career advancement for teleworkers within Denver, Colorado. The findings indicate that leaders are more intentional about communication with teleworkers than with non-teleworkers. Physical distance creates many challenges …

Government Contract Re-Compete Impacts On Employees, John James Bergmann

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this qualitative, case study research project was to examine the impacts of recurring contract re-competes on the defense contractor workforce. The primary focus was on how these every 5-year events affected morale, job satisfaction, productivity, and retention. The initial research effort explored factors which motivate and de-motivate employees, described common attributes of defense contractors, and discussed the vagaries of the contract re-compete process specifically and government contracting in general. This led to development of a conceptual framework, identification of several theories to assist in explaining and predicting employee behavior, and the design of semi-structured research questions to …

An Analysis Of Weighted Least Squares Monte Carlo, Xiaotian Zhu Aug 2022

An Analysis Of Weighted Least Squares Monte Carlo, Xiaotian Zhu

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Since Longstaff and Schwartz [2001] brought the amazing Regression-based Monte Carlo (LSMC) method in pricing American options, it has received heated discussion. Based on the research done by Fabozzi et al. [2017] that applies the heteroscedasticity correction method to LSMC, we further extend the study by introducing the methods from Park [1966] and Harvey [1976]. Our work shows that for a single stock American Call option modelled by GBM with two exercise opportunities, WLSMC or IRLSMC provides better estimates in continuation value than LSMC. However, they do not lead to better exercise decisions and hence have little to no effect …

Public Sector Unions And Government Financing, Qian He

Lingnan Theses and Dissertations (MPhil & PhD)

Unions play a significant role in the U.S. public sector. Most studies focus on unions in the private sector, but their role in the public sector is much more significant. According to the latest Current Population Survey (CPS) by the U.S. Census Bureau, more than one-third of public sector employees are union members, whereas private sector union membership is around 6%. In this paper, we examine the impact of public sector unions on the financing costs of government because the cost of financing is one of the major concerns of governments.

We employ an exogenous shock induced by the Supreme …

The Rise Of Blockchain Technology In Businesses, Haiqiang Chen

Undergraduate Student Research Internships Conference

A blockchain is a digitally distributed and decentralized ledger of all transactions across a peer-to-peer network. Using this technology, transaction participants can confirm transactions without a need for a central clearing authority, making the technology a legitimate disruptor for fields like contracts, financing, and supply chain. Benefits of blockchain technology include immutability, efficiencies, and decentralization.

This project poster studied how blockchain technology influences supply chain, logistics, and supply chain finance through case studies. Particularly, this project examined Walmart's 2016 pork pilot program launch, the Haikou and Sanya Port hub in China, and the "We Chain" financing system in Tencent company.

Conflicts Of Interest In Decision-Making For The Transportation Of Dangerous Goods By Sea: Perspectives Of Freight-Forwarding Sales People, Hsi-Kun Chen, Shiou-Yu Chen, Kung-Don Ye

Journal of Marine Science and Technology

This study develops and investigates an ethical decision-making model to evaluate the major factors-moral sensitivity, moral consensus, desire for power, and desire for money-that influence conflicts of interest in decision-making among ocean-freight-forwarding salespeople. To empirically test this conceptual model, we used a scenario-based questionnaire to collect 139 valid samples and then conducted further analyses using Pearson product-moment correlation coefficients and hierarchical regressions. The results of the preliminary analysis revealed two types of conflicts of interest in decision-making, namely avoidance of negative effects and positive promotion, which were significantly related to moral sensitivity and moral consensus. Advanced regressions partially supported the …
