How The Lukan Beatitudes Must Form A Christian Leader's Values In A Capitalistic Culture, Jeff Gossman

This article examines the general terminal and instrumental values of Christian leaders and the values of capitalism and capitalistic culture. Using the socio-rhetorical method, this article analyzes the Lukan Beatitudes (Luke 6:20–26). The study pays close attention to social and cultural textures in Luke’s Gospel to make sense of the extreme propositions in Luke 6:20–26. The social and cultural textures of limited good worldview, apocalyptic ideology, and sect typologies illuminate multiple values that should inform Christian leaders. The remainder of the article evaluates the Christian values of the Lukan Beatitudes in conversation with a capitalistic culture’s values. The study reveals …

In the wake of society’s reinvigorated consciousness around structural and systemic racism, conversations centering justice, equity, inclusion, access, and cultural diversification are going far beyond political discourse. Contemporary fundraising practices are also challenging antiquated hegemonic ways of philanthropy and are critically examining the practice from within. Among many things, this entails diversifying the historically White-female dominated fundraising workforce. In this, fundraising literature has paid minimal attention to intercultural/cross-racial dynamics as implications of diversification of the fundraiser workforce. Numerous researchers have investigated thinking that drifts away from what the individual was doing, thinking that is known as mind wandering. Their inquiries were often conducted in university lab settings with student participants. To learn about mind wandering in the daily life of working adults, this experience sampling study investigated intentional and unintentional mind wandering episodes as reported by working adults, ages 25–50, living across the United States. In this age frame, work and family responsibilities have increased in complexity and overlap.
