Introduction Uremic encephalopathy and dialysis disequilibrium syndrome (DDS) are distinct neurologic complications of renal failure that can precipitate seizures. While uremic encephalopathy reflects toxin-mediated metabolic dysfunction, DDS may occur during hemodialysis initiation from rapid osmotic shifts. They are usually described as separate entities, particularly in established CKD. Sequential neurologic events spanning the pre-dialysis period and dialysis initiation in previously undiagnosed renal failure are poorly characterized.

Background Hematuria secondary to vesicular varices is a rare but serious complication of portal hypertension, often associated with liver cirrhosis. Effective management requires a multidisciplinary approach, often involving urology, gastroenterology, and interventional radiology to address acute bleeding and prevent recurrence.

Case Presentation We present a case of a patient with alcoholic liver cirrhosis who experienced severe hematuria, highlighting the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges encountered. The patient presented with a two-day history of acute hematuria and blood clots, ultimately attributed to vesicular varices secondary to portal hypertension from alcoholic liver cirrhosis. Prostate cancer is the leading cancer diagnosis for men in the United States, with an increase in incidents in the last decade. Introduction: Valvular calcification is an increasingly important cardiac valvular pathology in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients, most frequently involving the aortic and mitral valves. The incidence/prevalence of mitral annular calcification in ESRD patients is about 30%, with mitral stenosis occurring in less than 5%. Background: C3 glomerulopathy (C3G) encompasses a group of diseases that result from abnormalities in the alternative pathway of complement regulation, and has been defined by C3 only or C3-dominant immunofluorescence staining seen on renal biopsy. C3G includes C3 glomerulonephritis (C3GN) and dense deposit disease (DDD); the latter of which is characterized ultra-structurally by the presence of highly osmiophilic intramembranous deposits. Both C3GN and DDD often present with a membranoproliferative pattern of glomerular injury, a finding that can also be seen in thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA). Most common causes include infection, autoimmune and monoclonal gammopathy.

Syphilis rates have increased substantially nationwide, disproportionately affecting marginalized populations and individuals with differing patterns of healthcare utilization. The Hampton Roads region of Virginia and North Carolina includes multiple jurisdictions with syphilis rates above the CDC screening threshold, with 7 of its 9 independent cities meeting this criterion. BACKGROUND: One out of eight men in the U.S. will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. Black men are more likely to be diagnosed with and die from prostate cancer than other males, contributing to significant prostate cancer disparities. Early detection, often by routine screening, allows for more options for treatment and an increased chance of survival. Barriers to screening contribute to prostate cancer disparities, particularly among those who lack regular access to health care. Community based screening programs may overcome barriers to prostate cancer screening.

PURPOSE: Clinical risk grouping based on PSA, tumor grade, and disease extent guides treatment intensity for localized prostate cancer. However, many patients with intermediate- or high-risk disease treated with external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) and androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) still develop biochemical recurrence (BCR). Abdominal pain is a frequent chief complaint in the emergency department (ED), responsible for 5% of all visits yearly. Despite emergency room work ups, 25% of these cases go undiagnosed. In the pediatric population, abdominal pain can be even harder to differentiate with causes ranging from low acuity constipation to emergent surgical emergencies like torsion or appendicitis. There is insufficient understanding of the molecular basis of prostate cancer (PCa) across different populations. We perform a large-scale proteome-wide association study (PWAS) to identify proteins with genetically regulated expression in plasma to be associated with PCa risk across populations. PURPOSE: Targeted therapies for metastatic prostate cancer are limited, highlighting the need for novel drug targets and mechanisms of action (MoA). Human kallikrein 2 (KLK2) is a prostate-specific antigen expressed across the prostate cancer disease continuum. However, it was not recognized as a therapeutic target for prostate cancer in the past due to limited evidence of its cell surface expression. In this study, we systematically characterized KLK2 expression in prostate cancer, confirmed its cell surface expression, and demonstrated the preclinical efficacy of three KLK2-targeting therapeutics with distinct MoA.

PURPOSE OF THE REVIEW: This review provides a detailed overview of the specifics of presentation, diagnosis, and management of upper and lower urinary tract stone disease for individuals with spina bifida.

RECENT FINDINGS: Recent studies highlight the significant burden of stone disease for spina bifida patients. Individuals with spina bifida require lifelong urologic care. They are more likely to have stone disease and have complications from management. This is a particularly salient issue for patients who have undergone bladder augmentation.
