BACKGROUND: A growing body of literature now exists examining associations between social determinants of health (SDOH) and adverse outcomes in patients with atrial fibrillation; however, little is available on anticoagulant prescriptions and the impact of SDOH.

PURPOSE: Evaluate the impact of SDOH on anticoagulant prescriptions in patients with atrial fibrillation.

DATA SOURCES: Medline and Embase databases up to January 2021.

STUDY SELECTION: Noninterventional studies were included if they reported associations between at least 1 of 14 SDOH domains and anticoagulant prescription in patients with atrial fibrillation. Two investigators independently screened and collected data.

Objectives: The aim of this cross-sectional study was to study the impact of social vulnerability on mortality attributed to comorbid cancer and CVD.
Methods: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Wide-Ranging Online Data for Epidemiologic Research database (2015-2019) was used to obtain county-level mortality data attributed to cancer, CVD, and comorbid cancer and CVD. BACKGROUND: There are limited data on the outcomes of acute myocardial infarction-cardiogenic shock (AMI-CS) in patients with concomitant cancer.

METHODS: A retrospective cohort of adult AMI-CS admissions was identified from the National Inpatient Sample (2000-2017) and stratified by active cancer, historical cancer, and no cancer. Outcomes of interest included in-hospital mortality, use of coronary angiography, use of percutaneous coronary intervention, do-not-resuscitate status, palliative care use, hospitalization costs, and hospital length of stay.

RESULTS: Of the 557,974 AMI-CS admissions during this 18-year period, active and historical cancers were noted in 14,826 (2.6%) and 27,073 (4.8%), respectively. From 2000 to 2017, there …

Vascular ring is a rare congenital anomaly in which the abnormal origin of the aorta or its branches and pulmonary arteries leads to encircling and compression of the trachea and esophagus. A right aortic arch (RAA) with an aberrant left subclavian artery is one of the most common forms of vascular ring. Here, we report a case of a prenatally diagnosed vascular ring resulting from an RAA with an aberrant left subclavian artery. A 63-year-old man with multiple previous orthopedic procedures in both lower extremities had presented to us for a third opinion regarding the point-specific pain in his right lateral calf. The initial diagnosis had been venous reflux at two other institutions. However, repeat imaging studies demonstrated an aneurysmal gastrocnemius vein without any other abnormalities, such as venous reflux or thrombosis. The patient had received compression stocking therapy for 6 months but had continued to experience increasing pain at night, especially when lying in bed. Sjogren's syndrome is a late-onset, slowly progressing autoimmune disease characterized by the destruction of the exocrine glands by lymphocytic infiltration, resulting in dry mouth (xerostomia) and dry eyes (keratoconjunctivitis sicca). Sjögren's syndrome may be associated with various autoimmune diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, and systemic sclerosis. We report a case of a 34-year-old female who delivered a live baby 20 days ago. She presented in a postictal state after two episodes of tonic-clonic movements of limbs with altered sensorium with a history of headache for seven days. Takayasu's arteritis (TA) is an idiopathic vasculitis affecting the aorta and its major branches. In TA, coronary artery involvement is rare and it mainly consists of stenosis or occlusion of the coronary ostia. In TA, as the arterial tree is diseased, often, arterial grafts are unsuitable for grafting so the saphenous vein grafts (SVG) are commonly used. We present a case of a young female with TA with an ostial left main stenosis who has undergone a right coronary-to-left anterior descending artery SVG and put on immunosuppression and steroids. She was asymptomatic with a patent graft during 7 years follow-up.

Patients with Anderson-Fabry disease (AFD) have an elevated incidence of resting arrhythmias and ischemic heart disease, but their exercise arrhythmia burden and ischemic changes are not well understood. In addition, little research has been done on heart rate recovery in these patients.

We retrospectively reviewed charts of patients with AFD who underwent maximal effort cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) (n=44; 38.2 ± 13.8 yr; 23 men) from 2012 through 2018. Electrocardiographic, Holter monitoring, echocardiographic, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, and patient demographic data were collected.

Pregnancy in women with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is not well described. In this retrospective study, we analyzed data on pregnant women with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy who were under follow-up care in the cardiology department of a tertiary care hospital. We reviewed data on all women registered in the hypertrophic cardiomyopathy cohort and those who attended the cardio-obstetric clinic and delivered between January 2010 and June 2019. From these 2 groups, we identified 7 pregnant women with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy who delivered during this period. Double-inlet left ventricle (DILV) is most frequent among univentricular atrioventricular connections. In DILV, there is a single functioning ventricle, most commonly with left ventricular structure. This chamber receives both atrioventricular valves and is connected to an outlet chamber with morphologic features of the right ventricle. The great vessels are often transposed, and pulmonary stenosis is seen in two-thirds of patients. The anatomy and pathophysiology can be defined by echo-Doppler studies with a rare need for other imaging studies. Background: Coronary Microvascular Disease (CMD) presents in aging post-menopausal women with chronic angina due to microvascular hyperconstriction. The objective was to identify mechanisms of adipose stromal vascular fraction’s (SVF) restorative effects on vasodilation. We hypothesize aging-induced CMD is caused by a) abrogated flow-mediated dilation (FMD) due to loss of nitric oxide signaling and b) ROS-dependent βADR desensitization & internalization, reversible by ameliorating mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress with SVF.
