Mortality from diseases of the heart claimed the lives of 186,074 New Jerseyans from 2010 to 2019. This study aims to establish correlations between each of health-related risk factors and death from heart disease in each of six New Jersey counties. Each of the counties ranked by age-adjusted mortality per 100,000 from diseases of the heart. The six counties were divided by the least (Hunterdon, Somerset, Bergen) and greatest (Cape May, Salem, and Cumberland) mortality rates from heart disease. Recently, processed plant-based meat substitutes, such as Beyond Meat® and Impossible™ foods have become easily accessible to consumers and are advertised as a healthful addition to a plant-based diet. High-output heart failure is a potentially life-threatening condition that can lead to cardiac arrest. The most common causes of this condition are obesity, liver disease, arteriovenous shunts, lung disease, and myeloproliferative disorders, however the exact prevalence remains uncertain [1]. Here we describe an unusual case of cardiac arrest as a consequence of high-output heart failure, secondary to rupture of an iliac artery aneurysm into the common iliac vein, with arteriovenous (AV) fistula formation.

Back pain is a common chief complaint in the emergency department. With the differential ranging from musculoskeletal pain to cauda equina, there are a plethora of diagnoses. Differentiating between benign back pain and back pain that warrants further evaluation and even possible emergent surgical intervention is often a challenge in the acute setting. In this case report, a strange combination of all new symptoms including lichen planus, fevers, chills and atraumatic back pain lead to the eerie and very unexpected diagnosis of a peri-aortic abscess.

Introduction Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) is a rare event associated with significant pregnancy-associated maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. Homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH) is a rare, treatment‐resistant disorder characterized by early‐onset atherosclerotic and aortic valvular cardiovascular disease if left untreated. Contemporary information on HoFH in the United States is lacking, and the extent of underdiagnosis and undertreatment is uncertain.

Methods and Results

Data were analyzed from 67 children and adults with clinically diagnosed HoFH from the CASCADE (Cascade Screening for Awareness and Detection) FH Registry. Genetic diagnosis was confirmed in 43 patients. BACKGROUND: Left ventricular diastolic dysfunction and nocturnal "nondipping" of blood pressure detected via ambulatory blood pressure monitoring are predictors of increased cardiovascular morbidity.

METHODS: A prospective cohort study including normotensive women with a history of preeclampsia in their current pregnancy was conducted. All cases were subjected to 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and 2-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography 3 months after delivery.

Whether patients who experience wake-up strokes are candidates for thrombolysis treatment is a serious dilemma. The year 2023 marks the 100th anniversary of the first successful valvotomy for mitral valve stenosis by Elliott C. Cutler in 1923. Closed-chest mitral valve commissurotomy developed further before being replaced by an open procedure after the advent of the heart-lung machine. Catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia is a rare but lethal heritable arrhythmia syndrome associated with both atrial and ventricular arrhythmias. Treatment includes antiarrhythmics, sympathetic denervation, and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators. The use of atrioventricular nodal ablation as a treatment strategy to prevent ventricular arrhythmias in catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia was not found in the literature. This report describes a teenager with a presenting rhythm of atrial and ventricular fibrillation and cardiac arrest. Her clinical arrhythmia was predominantly atrial dysrhythmias, which delayed her diagnosis of catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia. BACKGROUND: This study investigated the relationship between coronary collateral circulation (CCC) and non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C) in patients with stable coronary artery disease (CAD). Coronary collateral circulation plays a critical role in supporting blood flow, particularly in the ischemic myocardium. Previous studies show that non-HDL-C plays a more important role in the formation and progression of atherosclerosis than do standard lipid parameters.
