Introduction: Studies have revealed that age, health status and 3rd level education influence public attitudes towards the COVID-19 vaccination during the pandemic. The aim of this study was to investigate the factors that influence the public’s attitudes towards the COVID-19 vaccine two years post-pandemic.
Methods: Ethical approval was obtained for the study. A total of 241 participants who provided informed consent were surveyed anonymously using closed-ended, open-ended and Likert Scale questions. Associations between specific demographics and vaccination attitudes were established using SPSS software.

Background: Extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) accounts for ~20% of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infections in Pakistan. Diagnostic delays are common and may worsen outcomes. We evaluated whether empiric treatment initiation improves outcomes among patients with EPTB at a large public hospital in Islamabad, Pakistan. Methods: Retrospective cohort of consecutive EPTB cases at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (January–June 2016). Patients were categorized as clinically diagnosed (symptoms/radiology) or laboratory-supported (histology, microbiology, or biochemical tests). Mesalazine (5-aminosalicylic acid) is widely used as a first-line therapy for ulcerative colitis (UC) due to its efficacy and safety profile. Rarely, it can cause pulmonary toxicity with variable clinical and radiologic manifestations, making diagnosis challenging.
Case Presentation
We report the case of a 52-year-old woman with UC who developed persistent fever and progressive exertional dyspnea following escalation of mesalazine dosage. Imaging revealed diffuse bilateral ground-glass opacities, while infectious and UC-related pulmonary causes were excluded. Pulmonary function testing demonstrated restriction and markedly reduced diffusing capacity. The Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) report and national and international guidelines have shifted away from short-acting beta2-agonist (SABA)-only bronchodilators as first-line asthma rescue therapy, recognizing that both bronchoconstriction and inflammation underlie the increase in symptoms preceding an exacerbation. Mycobacterium chimaera is a slow-growing, non-tuberculous mycobacterium (NTM) that belongs to the Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC). It first emerged as a pathogen after being associated with infections in patients who underwent cardiothoracic surgery when patients were getting exposed to heater cooler units, especially those requiring extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) or prosthetic valve placement. We report an atypical presentation of M. chimaera infection in a patient with COPD, but no prior history of cardiac surgery or immunosuppression.

Bilateral pneumothorax is an uncommon but clinically significant complication of thoracic spinal interventions. We report the case of a 20-year-old female with underlying scoliosis who developed acute pleuritic chest pain, dyspnea, and persistent cough immediately following bilateral T2–T5 medial branch nerve block injections performed in an outpatient pain management setting. Thoracic medial branch blocks are generally considered low-risk procedures; however, the proximity of the pleura to posterior thoracic elements places patients at risk for iatrogenic pleural injury, particularly in individuals with altered spinal anatomy such as scoliosis. Necrotizing pneumonia is an uncommon but severe complication of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), characterized by progressive parenchymal liquefaction, cavitation, and destruction of normal lung architecture, and associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Clinicaly, early presentations may be indistinguishable from uncomplicated pneumonia (pna), with fever, cough, pleuritic chest pain, and dyspnea, which can delay recognition in the emergency department. Differential diagnosis for these symptoms is broad and includes uncomplicated pneumonia, septic emboli, lung abscesses, and pleural effusion. Studies conducted at the onset of the pandemic reported frequency of Fetal Vascular Malperfusion (FVM), an umbrella term that describes occlusive vasculopathies that affect fetal circulation and their associated sequelae. PCD results from motile cilia defects, impairing mucociliary clearance and causing chronic respiratory infections. Our lab studies include three PCD mouse lines — bgh (Spef2), nm1054 (Cfap221), and Cfap54gt/gt (Cfap54).
